OBD-II scanner for Gypsy

I am looking for an OBD-II scanner to read engine and other parameters for display on a carputer to be mounted on a Gypsy MPFI 2007 model. I was told i need to look for a 9141-x compliant scanner.

Checking on the Ir*de site, i came across 2 USB models with the said support: ELM323USB and ELM327USB.

Would either of these work properly in the Gypsy? Is it a standard plug-andplay kind of operation? I saw this being done on a Santro where it was pretty much connect and go. Will it be just as easy for the Gypsy? My mech tells me it wont work because Maruti puts some kind of code to encrypt/lock out external readers. How can that be?

Anything else I should keep in mind?

Well the only scanner that I know that works is the Tech II that Maruti dealers use to work on the cars, other generic scanners usually don't do the job as there is no rule in India which says any scanners is to read the majority of P-codes that an engine control module(ecm)/ body control module(bcm) will put out if it detects any changes. But others who have tried can do tell there experience, if I have any problem I just go to RNS Motors, Yeshantpur, or for just P-codes there is a procedure to get it to flash on the LCD in the ODO,(Works with the Swift,SX4,A-star,Ritz,GV)

Bumping up this thread with an update.

Yesterday we tried to use an OBDII scanner with my Gypsy and the scanner wouldnt proceed beyond the "Connecting" message on the ScanGauge display.

Looks like my carputer wont be able to read the engine parameters after all?

any help would be appreciated.
