Issues With Alto Steering

greetings to all fellow members,
since last 30-35 days i am facing some problem with the steering of my alto. on turning it, i hear a noise ( something like tak tak). even when i pass through a pot hole, a noise is heard from the steering column. can any of the fellow members enlighten me as to what could the problem be?

thanks
singh

same problem i faced some times back.
do you feel steering very loose?
steering pin may be loose or something like that.
go to MASS asap.
problem will be fixed within 10 min with very negligible cost.

Get your axles and steering bush also checked. Tak Tak sound can be of worn out axles.

BTW how many km's has your car done and is it equipped with EPS ?

Re: Issues With Alto Steering

Few days back I got alignment of my Alto done. It has run 50k kms and tyres are also near end of their life. ever since alignment has been done, whenever I move steering (left or right) it makes a creeking sound. Got it checked at MASS, they are saying its steering column needs replacement. But my point is that before aligment was done, it was working fine. So could there be a possibility that some bolts were tightned improperly causing this?

Like our fellow bhpian pointed out the khat-khat noise can be Axles, it is true, as worn out steering will make more of a rumbling noise like a few boulders passing over your roof..

Although considering your Car's mileage at 20,000 kms, i hope the drive shafts would be ok, but who knows you might as well check them too.

If you have serviced the car recently from a MASC, something's amiss, dont waste time and rush back to the service centre, some ASC's are known to use spurious parts and also replace them..the quicker you address this issue with them, the better.

Re: Issues With Alto Steering

thanks for the reply sir. the steering issue was due to a loose lug nut (thats what its called i suppose). the vehicle is working fine now.

as far as the average was concerned, it became fine after the next service. and now i have got a CNG kit installed in the vehicle. its become very light on the pocket now.

Re: Issues With Alto Steering

Are you sure it's called the lug nut? I think the lug nut is used to secure a wheel to the plate (you remove the lug nut first when you want to change the wheel in case of puncture).
Or is it the flange nut? How easy is it to tighten it? DIY possible?
