does anyone know of mechanics that specialise in Rattle removal.

In my view, it is the biggest thing that makes you to move over to a new car leaving your trusty 6 year old in the lurch...If rattles could be cured...many people, including me would still be using their old cars..

So Please let me know who can I use to help with my Uno...anyone in Hyderabad that does that...other cities are a lso fine as I keep goin on a long drive once in a while
ciao

where is the rattle coming from, interior, suspension, exhuast??

I am getting rattle in my brand new swift :(

Buffetfan,

Very interesting topic, and I would be very grateful to some productive answers. When rattles set in my car, I hate it!

If it helps, period tightening of the body-chassis bolts (all 8 of them..LOL) helps in maintaining the stiffness of my Jeep.

i just hate rattles.i have removed quite a few rattles from the door trim of my palio.

if the ratles are from the trim try removing the trim and stick foam insulation on its edges and then refit it.dashboard rattles are difficult to remove because most of these rattles come from lose mounting bolts which are sometimes fitted way inside the dashboard.also dashboard rattles can be cured using rubber insulation on the mounting edges.

if the seats are rattling.just remove the seats from the adjustment rail, tighten every bolt on the chassis of the seat and then refit the seat on the railing after applying some greese.

door rattles can be removed by tightening the door mountings on the body.one of the other rattles that come from the doors is caused by rattling of the powerwindow mechanism and motors which become lose after some time on rough roads.

parcel tray rattles can be removed by covering the edge of the parcel tray with foam insulation or better one is to insert rubber insulation on the slot where the tray fits.placing a heavy object like few books on the parcel tray also reduces the rattle to some extent.

another rattle is the one that comes from wheel caps.tightening the nuts will solve the problem.

according to what i have found most of the rattles originate from the dashboard and door trims of the car.this happens because manufacturers dont care to add simple bits like rubber and foam insulation on plastic, metal and fibre mountings.these are the only materials that can create rattle.most of the rattle removing tricks are DIY if u know how to open the pannels and fittings and after finishing to job fit them back.one advice if u have never opened a cars dashboard or trim before dont try it.u will definately break one of those delicate plastic clips(slots).tell a reputed mechanic(not roadside one) to do it,but watch it how he does it,so next time u can do it urself.

I own a Palio I bought 20 days back and the dashboard and right front door rattles. I have called the FIAT people today and I am gonna make sure these points you mentioned are noted.

Great writeup though.

Fantastic inputs Merve! Thanks for sharing.

Are rattles chronic in Fiats, Old Fiat owners please comment.
I too had rattles in my petra... Then I rattled Sundaram, Now it is OK.

that was some good advise on rattles.

The kind of roads nowadays I drive, I am expecting rattles in my fusion.
I simply wonder whether cars can rattle free and rattle proof in bumpy, pot holed, unevenly laid Indian roads.?

actually this problem is there with all non-luxury cars.once i sat in a zen and it was rattling like it had been dropped from a US Marine Chinnok helicopter.rattles are mainly caused due to bad road conditions and also due to expansion joints on concreated roads(especially when travelling a high speeds. On smooth roads most rattles will dissapear.

Also I noticed that when my zen (carb) is idle at neutral, it rattles more (really takes my nerve) and it all comes from behind, whereas the moment I put in first gear and move it goes off.. I mean it just stops. I hae no idea how it happens.. need to talk with the ASS guys for the next service.

ya the rattling gets pretty annoying.have some irritating rattles my self in the baleno...

I have some rattles from my Indigo gearbox. This disappears when I pull the gear knob vertically. Probably this is because it is time for a gear oil change. Last time I had to get the gearbox re-caliberated!!

Rattles are a common pain in all diesel vehicles. In my Bolero i observed that at certain rpm the rattles come alive and after that they go away. I guess resonance plays a major role.

In my Zen (5500 kms done), there is a sort of creaking and groaning sound that comes from the floor whenever you brake, or turn. I used to think it was the seat, but the co-passenger told me its the floor. The Sai Service in Pune was as usual clueless and gave me the car after 2nd service without rectifying the problem.

Any ideas how I can locate the underbody problem and get it rectified. Or is the dealer waiting for the warranty period to expire so he can charge me for correcting this?

TIA,
Simran
