Yes. The parting line will be along the axis of the shaft. Only then the grain will flow axially and the shaft can withstand the load.

@scuderiamania, I saw the pictures. The damage is because of shock load on the cam shaft. The damage makes this very evident.

I've only seen rockers being broken supposedly because of the camshaft.

as said by MCR its case of shear failure due to sudden impact load , migth be due to the valve itself . very possible . only thing is , should analyse the bearing which the pic is not showing . misalingment of the bearing with either its seat or camshaft must be checked.
