Performance Mod's desired on the Getz Crdi

Hello Fellow Bhpians,

Its time now to push the baby further and hence would need some pieces of advice and tips from the Guru's.

I will put down a list of intended to do's, please feel free to comment or advice.
  1. Air Filter
  2. Strut Bar for better stability
  3. ECU remap
  4. Brakes - ( I missed that - Thanks for pointing it out buddy )

To begin with i want to start with the real basics like the Air filter, i would want to know your recommendation on the make and the type. (Note - I drive in peak Mumbai traffic in hot and humid conditions)

The Getz is a fairly stable car with a very minimal roll, however with so much torque on the front wheels there is a need to keep the soles ( 185/60 R14 - Apollo Accelere Sportz) planted on the road. what make and where can i source one ?

The ECU remap or a add on box would give an additional boost of almost 20% which will take this car upto 140bhp, but i guess the drivability of the car in city conditions would suffer since she currently has 230nm of torque and an additional 50nm torque would mean a lot of trouble in moving around within traffic conditions.

I might have missed out some more smart small mods which would also assist in performance enhancement, please feel free to suggest.

Hei, go through kpzen's thread. He has been using a Pete's box for sometime now and even have done long distance driving in it.

Would suggest updating brakes too.

Why do you think such a thing would happen. I would say a well calibrated one should make your drivability dreams come true. I dont what exactly you want to do it but then you can custom map it and have loads of fun and sheer pleasure in terms of acceleration and performance. Remember your vehicle will have additional subsystems which should also be taken care of.

i suggest you first upgrade your tyres. if you can upsize rims then 205/50 r15 will be perfect. if you are sticking to 14" then 195/60 r14 will be fine.

then get the filter and the tuning box. this will make you enjoy the car so much more. if you are satisfied with the power now just get the air filter, it should make the engine a bit more free revving.

i think there are brake pad upgrades available, i remember reading about them on one of the crdi threads. this is very important.

Change the tyres. Those 185/60/14 tyres are a joke. Also, Pete's is not an ECU remap, it's a tuning box.

@Speed-Freak - I guess this should be your order of mods if you are really a speed freak.

- Air Filter

- As its a non-abs vehicle go for cross drilled Tarox rotors and performance break pads with advan neovas(195/60/14).

- A good suspension job is necessary.

- After all the above mods if you need more power go for Petes box.

@ rranjith_kum - I see your point in custom remaps, i have been discussing this with a renowned specialist from the US on the remaps and he suggested to open them up to accept premium quality fuels, he mentions that the OE maps are designed to accommodate low to very inferior qualities of fuel and changing maps for the quality would give me more torque and power at even lower rpm, power is good to have but if you have driven the Getz Crdi in the city it at times is a pain as it has lots of torque already and giving it more would aggravate the torquey feeling.

@ akshay1234 - I have some plans of changing the tyres but would do that after all the others are done, the current accelere sportz are doing their job pretty well. The Air filter and the brake pads are on the immediate and must do list.

@pranavt - Reg the tyres my response to Akshay and am aware of the pete's being a tuning box and i think am more comfortable remap to the existing box than a bypass to Pete's.

@brraj - Thanks for the info on the brakes any idea where can i source that in Mumbai and how much would it approximately cost for the rotors and pads.

For the brakes , Tarox or wilwood wont work , if you just swapped the rotors and pads . You will have to change the master cylinder and booster as well . You will need to go in for a bigger one . plus , I dont think you would like to spend 50-60k on the brakes upgrade .

My suggestion would be to try and get the i20 rear disc or the verna rear disc setup . That should work out cheap ,plus you get the same pcd ( not so sure ,but most car manufacturers have the same pcd and centre hub diameter. The i20 and the verna have a DIH (drum in hat) type of rear discs .which should help with the parking brake as well.

It has been tried and tested greatmana2000 and it works.
Here i am not mentioning about bigger rotors or pads but the stock size replacement.
