Component & Equipment Manufacturers at Auto Expo 2010

A huge part of the Auto Expo is taken up by component manufacturers, OEM suppliers and auto-equipment dealers. Pretty much an auto-parts trade fair.

Its not just India that these companies cater to. A lot of it is export - for brands like Ferrari, Peugot, John Deer etc.

Just walking through a few of the halls gave us a chance to see pistons, cam-shafts, valves and heads ranging from tiny 50cc motors to massive earth-moving equipment.

Here's a hand-picked selection of some of the cool things on display :

(I'm still adding to the thread, so keep checking back)

JNS Instruments

These guys make some top-quality instrument clusters!

This is from the Euro-spec Civic. The front is made of acrylic that is shaped to be a bit of a lens, giving an awesome feel of depth to the instrument cluster. Absolutely gorgeous!

The person there said this might have been from a GM car sold in Japan - any idea which one?

Sarita Forgings

These guys make forged components (much stronger than cast components), which are then machined down to exact specifications.
Component & Equipment Manufacturers at Auto Expo 2010-img_2798.jpg

Thats a connecting rod in its forged form (connects the piston to the crankshaft). It will be machined down, and even cut at the bottom so that it can be fastened onto the crankshaft.

National Semiconductor

This company makes the LED drivers for headlamps and taillamps. (ie the circuitry to power the LEDs and not the actual headlamps)

Here the main beam is a HID, but everything currently lit up is LED.
The 3 projectors at the top use a 4watt LED each (the kind you find in top-end LED flashlights). No active cooling (fans) required, but naturally there are heat-sinks for the LEDs. Pretty bright!
Component & Equipment Manufacturers at Auto Expo 2010-img_2842.jpg

The LED brakelights use a bunch of 25ma LEDs.
Component & Equipment Manufacturers at Auto Expo 2010-img_2843.jpg

The advantage of LED taillights is that :
1) They don't burn out like regular incandecent bulbs
2) They light up to full power a few milliseconds faster than any filament bulb does - hence cutting down on reaction time. Even a 100ms faster reaction time can in theory save you meters of braking distance when travelling at high speeds.

WITTE Modular Fixtures

From the "Germany" Pavillion (which had some really nice stuff) - this was one of my favourites from the expo.
Component & Equipment Manufacturers at Auto Expo 2010-img_2870.jpg

Anyone who has ever laid out a frame or chassis for welding will know how hard it is to jig it up PERFECTLY - and that every millimeter that your project gets skewed results in much more heartache with the other components down the line.

Witte provides a very neat and solid modular system (ie can be configured to any size, in many ways) to lay out or hold your work - whatever be the purpose.
Component & Equipment Manufacturers at Auto Expo 2010-img_2871.jpg

Here you can see how the modular blocks are attached to each other - and clamps or various other holding devices are attached to the backbone of the system.

True - i really enjoy this part of the expo. Unlike the car stalls where you mostly get new info, walking around the component manufacturer stalls gives you a chance to actually see things in their basic form as well as LEARN a lot too.

Yes, about 25 more stalls to be posted in this thread

ITW Chemin

ITW definitely took the "green" theme of the auto expo to the max!

Check it out - they even had a mini-golf putting strip.

TATA Elxsi

Remember the Tata Manza website where you can see a 360* view of the car and its interiors?
Tata Elxsi is responsible for those creations and other CGI work. Yep its a Tata owned company.

On the screen was some of their animations for the new Tata Venture IIRC
