Back to Basics : Solid or Metallic Colors

The general view is 'non-metallic white' is easiest to maintain.

Wanted opinions and advises on solid v/s metallic color choices. To make it more complex, darker shades are better maintainable on which one.

Folks if possible provide links which clearly describes the differences between the two.

Standard and metallic paints cost almost the same to produce yet buyers pay thousands of dollars extra for the shimmer on their new cars..metallic paint, or "pearl" uses mica flakes rather than aluminium to give more apparent depth...Some car makers justify the extra cost as reflecting the techniques used to apply and protect metallic finishes, but the sums asked vary enormously..even if metallic paint did cost the same [as standard paint], there are other costs that have to be considered. Some lighter colours require more coats or a different undercoat such as white rather than the standard grey and metallics often require a protective gel coating..so are more costly..The only difference between standard and metallic paint is that metal flakes are added to the tinter in metallic paint..hope that hepls..

From personal experience, the easiest colour to maintain is silver.

The toughest are black and white.

But arent metallic paints difficult to color match just incase you have to do a repaint job on a scratched or damaged surface ...
They never look the same ... U can always tell the difference in a repainted panel ..

yup thats true..another reason i dont understand as to y metallic paints are getting the popularity with such drawbacks though..well its not worth using metallic paints just to get that glossy look on the car,not specially in india where a parked vehicle may be hit by an auto or a truck or virtually anything could happen..
