hi fellas
for all the techno people out here
i am confused between turbo charging or supercharging an engine
which one produces more power with the cost effectiveness etc..
i know the basic setup and missleneous products required for doing it.
and i would like to know the diff power setup ex: 4 turbo the psi 4 supercharger what is the calculation method
i know merc do supercharging 4 there cars which other automobile comp do it in india INDIA specially.
both Turbochargers and superchargers work on the same principal of forced induction.the difference is supercharger runs on the engine power(crankshaft) whereas the turbo runs on the engines exaust gases.
because of this the supercharges gives instant power boost unlike the turbo's lag, they are a simple design and have good reliablility.but the downside is superchargers use some of the engines power and hence they waste some of the increase in power.
turbos provide maximum power gain and effeciency but the cooling effeciency is not as good as superchargers.superchargers are cosidered more reliable than turbos because they run continously as long as the engine is running whereas turbos depend on exaust gas pressure for their effeciency.
the reason for using superchargers is to boost the low end torque while turbos are used for boosting mid-toprange power and torque.if u want maximum power output then u have to consider the turbo.
ans as far as manufacturers other than merc who use superchargers,Jaguar uses supercharging.
where can i turbocharge or supercharge my opel corsa sail 1.4 in mumbai
well described there merve_extreme
some of you might be aware of the fact that both turbo and supercharger can be installed in the same engine ..a.k.a SuperTurbo Systems or Twin charged
examples -
Lancia S4 - (modified rally car where they counteracted low density air at high altitudes.
VW is working on preparing the 2006 SuperTurbo Golf for its 2.0 engine with 240 horses ..

i am sure there are bolt on kits for the 1.4 ecotec .. look at
www.performancecenter.com..making one could be expensive ..
will the indica turbo work ?experts ?
but where should i go to install it and stuff
Yeah, the IHI from the Indica ought to work.
Mumbai, try KS Motorsport or Team FS. Or bring it down to Bangalore.
Beware though, it won't be cheap.
any idea as to how much will it cost with how much increase in power...
all turbo parts from the chor bazaar or the jhol if u can do will cost u around 50 to 1 lac depending on who is doing it .
bolt on turbo kit will cost you approx 2 or above but do it with a reliable person who has a prior experience
as of the races happened before the vip3r's suggestion of going to banglore sounds nice or in mumbai u can try at KS

Hey Vi1per, are you sure the Indica is a IHI? Do you know the model number?
If you want to increase power then go the whole hog and might as well change the whole engine and gearbox. If you have longevity in mind then the only thing that may remain untouched if you want a good job done would be your engine block as every other part would have to be beefed up. Take the case of the Palio GTX; if you are intend on improving the torque of the GTX then you will most certainly have to change the gearbox because the teeth in the gearbox cannont take any more increase in peak torque as the teeth will give way. If you are hell bent on improving torque on your stock car search the net for a soft turbo that does not and I repeat does not increase the peak torque but flattens the torque curve over a broader RPM range which will not destroy the teeth but at the same time will give you a sustained push. Please do remember that I did not touch the topic on BHP because its torque that gives you the push and not BHP though both are intimately linked. Also do remember that whole engines and gearboxes of the mitsubishi brand are for sale from hindustan motors. I am thinking of plonking in the 1800cc SI carb engine and then using LPG as the fuel in my junk trap INDICA if the engine and gearbox fits in the engine bay (after I win the consumer court case against TATA) though I will be on the wrong side of the law as far as RTO registration of the uprated engine is concerned

FACT :- The Merc SLR's supercharger needs 150bhp JUST to run!!
Indica doesnt have a turbo Indigo uses a KKK turbo

Thats what I thought. Tata has a collabration with KKK and makes turbos in house.
Even the earlier Tata Sierra`s had KKK turbos. But KKK lacks reliability.
