Dimensions - GC, width, etc.

Folks,

I've been wanting to get this out for a while now. Wanted some healthy gyan on how are the dimensions of respective cars are measured - for example GC is it the lowest part of the underbody of a vehicle like oil sump ? some car manufacturers mention width of the vehicle including the ORVM and some excluding. How do we define the appropriate width of a vehicle from inside. Like for example the Nano may seem tiny enough in length and width but the proclaimed comfort of the backseat in terms of width and space is comparable to our ol M800.

I would appreciate some gyan from the gurus and vintage on this,

Cheers
