actually, the term TDi used by tata is incorrect, as TDi stands for turbocharged direct injection engine (example, skoda 1.9 TDi). but, as per tata-speak, TDi stands for turbo-diesel intercooled engine, albeit indirect injection...

also, indigo and indica both use the same "TDi" engine.

I agree, TATA marketing chaps are tying to fool the public to think their car has the same technology as an Octavia TDi. Skoda should do something about this.

I agree,
TDI -- Turbocharged direct injection is about the fuel injection system that would add more power to the Turbo charged diesel engine.

TATA's turbo is all about adding a Turbo module to the existing engine without modifying the fuel injection system.

Tata's are just fooling the public by trying to take advantage of the popularity of the Skoda TDI's.... by giving them the same abrrev. they are trying to say that their cars' are good as Skodas'. But the TDI and Skoda and Tata are completely different things.

BTW, in diesels, indirect injection is supposed to yield a smoother engine with less vibration than a direct injection engine. So "technically" a TATA engine should be smoother than the Skoda TDi.

But its another thing that Octavia TDi almost sounds like a petrol car while you are sitting inside, whereas Indica feels like a truck even with all windows up...

You should drive the Sierra / Safari with the old engine. Those babies are as smooth and refined as they come.
