hi
just bought used Toyota innova 2.0 v 54700kms done in odo
till then i clocked 12000km in 3months
my rear tyre completely worn out from outside
i checked wheel alignment shop and toyota service center told me wheel alignment shows perfect values and there is no setting for wheel alignment at Rear.
what could be problem?
i tried changing tyre side and same thing happend both sides r now wornout

any help

The lower arm of the rear suspension could be bent. Changing it would be the only option. But then if that was the case, it should definitely show wrong values on the alignment machine. is the problem with only one rear tyre or both tyres?

try getting another reading from another machine somewhere else. I suspect its the lower arms (both sides) that are bent.

Is there a lower arm in the rear of the innova?

Try checking the wheel bearings for play. Maybe this could be the cause

culprit should be the rear axle that could have a bent and then this uneven tire wear is a possibility. In my opinion you could verify this yourself, if you park your car on an even surface the tire could be touching the ground unevenly - please check that.

Hey I used to think my petrol innova clocking 59k is the highest in country but yours is nearing 68 anyways you say you bought used so the tyres must be at it's fag end as nobody bothers changing them if there is an intent of selling it . It's possible the tyres were just redone in a fashion to look good (nakshi cutting) the stronger ones put in the front just change them and be at peace !! The tyre shop who
you will consult will definitely give you a good idea about the tyre s history !!!

yes when i see tyres from rear it shows like they are bent inside
how couldbe rear axel bend?
is insurance good to claim?
when tyres are wet and i drive in parking shows only outside grips

Axle bending is a rare possibility, but can be caused by accidents / damage caused by hitting speed brakers, potholes or even running long distance on flat tyres.

Take it to a good service center, preferably toyota itself and see the real problem. If you tell about these possibilities and ask them to check - then they should not be trying too much of investigation on unnecessary things and also not replace unnecessary things for rectifying the problem. They could also tell you about covering this under insurance.

I will give more than 80% possibility to the rear axle issue for such uneven tire wear, it has happened with me on my Maruti Zen before. Believe me the Maruti MASS couldnt identify the issue for first 2 times, but they replaced the lower arms, suspension etc by confirming that the problem is resolved. but it wasnt the case untill the axle was relaced and I could very clearly see the axle bent myself.

I would also suggest not to change tires before rectifying this issue as you will be damaging your newer tires as well.

Its possible your car be a accident victim when it was previously owned.

Following are the possibility.
1. Rear wheel bend. do you have alloy or steel rims.
2. trailing arm.
3. Apron, where the arm fits. now this is tricky to find as you will need an expert body worker/foreman.

IF the wheel alignment is correct in all cases, first
1.Check the discs. Is there any bend means,it will also cause it.
2.Next Wheel bearings,This need to checked.
3.Tyre manufaturing problems(But you have old that its changed and again the same problem is there). So leave this step.

damaged bearings will make a distinct sound.

if you can post a picture for us to see the bend/slant.
some of my childhood memories about cars is my dad visits to our local mechanic to get his car serviced and for to check the wheel alignment the mech only used a long string and a bolt and he'd check the alignment spot on, he even checks camber and caster along with the toe. nowadays the alignment guys use advanced machines and computers and only correct toe readings, and if camber and caster are wrong they just ignore them.
take the Innova to an experienced suspension mechanic and ask him to take a look at your problem.
