it is definitely doable, but the key is

1. learn about it yourself.
2. get a competent garage.

Check on the internet, there are hundreds of stories of people who have done this. I got in touch with one such person and have email exchanges with him, however for lack of competent garages in my knowledge, haven't tried it yet.

You can PM 1self in this matter. He has done a similar thing like yours but in a sonata.

I think there is even an Indian manufacturer. I remember seeing one in an auto magazine long ago.

That's interesting... and looks like the way not to go.

Want my honest advice? Save yourself the trouble...sell your OHC Vtec and buy a used OHC 1.5 AT, NHC 1.5 CVT or Corolla AT (previous gen). On the OHC AT, you'd spend no extra money. NHC or Corolla, about 25,000 - 50,000 more (over and above what you get for your OHC).

Please stay away from Autoclutch, thats a thread started by me.

If you have the will and know of a suitable garage, then dont supress your will.

Do let me know, I might also join you for the transmission swapping work. Definitely a doable job, but finding the right kind of people in India is the toughest part.
