Oil Barrel - how much of what does it contain

Hello All,

Its splashed across most business dailies and news channels as well - "Price of oil is USD xxxx per barrel". I've always wondered how much Petrol or Diesel or even tar for that matter is contained in each barrel of crude oil.

This information may be closely linked to the cost of petrol per barrel. i.e out of one barrel of crude xx amount of petrol can be extracted etc.

Should be worth finding out - that way we'll know what it takes to produce one liter of fuel (Petrol / Diesel) and what we actually end up paying

Mods : Please move this thread if it doesn't fit in here ! - Thank you.

Cheers !

A barrel of oil is about 159 liters and it produces about about 167 liters of refined products! petrol would be around ~75 liters. But it also depends on things like quality of crude oil or what a refinery is tuned to produce.. so possible to get different amounts of end product. Hope this answers your question.
