2004 Honda City Gxi AC Problem

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has experienced this problem. The AC stops cooling sometimes midway during a drive. Maybe when the temperature goes up. I'm best trying to describe what my mother told as this is not my car and dont use it.

The mechanic I gave it to told me the compressor, fan motor and extension valve needs to be replaced and it will cost 28,000 including parts & labour.

I drove the car last night for 45 minutes and the cooling seemed to be A Ok. I feel since it is an intermittent problem it shouldn't require complete replacement of these parts.

Can anyone offer their advice or contacts of a good AC mechanic in south Mumbai who I can show it to?

Sid

First thing is check the ac gas level, if its optimum.

Next, check if the AC stops cooling after a slightly longer usage, if so switch off only the compressor button for 5 minutes and switch ON again. If the cooling is back to normal, then its the gas icing up which is causing this. To fix this first ensure that the inside grills are clean.

I would suggest taking a second opinion/going to a reliable specialist.

What it looks to me is weak compressor which is not able to handle day time heat and hence almost no cooling at day time while it will cool ok at night. Get the compressor checked at another AC mechanic for fair opinion.
