Best bit about New Verna is that even its base 1.4 variant looks completely similar to base 1.6, even it features Gorgeous Front foglamps & other minor details sans the Defogger lines on its Tail-Glass.

Have anybody from team-bhp have driven New Verna 1.4 CRDi Base diesel ?
If yes then please do share your Driving experiences with the car & its Performance, especially its Acceleration & Noise intrusion levels inside the cabin.

Got my Verna ICE'd last week. The HU is stock but got the speakers changed to a nice pair of MTX components and also got a active sub installed. Sounds incredibly better now :)

I also saw that the coolant level was nearing the low mark. Car has done about 7k now so the service is still 3k away. Anyone know if it is okay to just top up the coolant (which brand?) or should I take the car by the service station? Have checked since last 3-4 days and the coolant level is not dropping anymore so I am sure there is no leak anywhere.

Coolant level drops as pure water evaporates leaving behind a concentrated coolant mix. Instead of topping up with coolant again, You can buy a bottle of distilled water from any petrol pump and just top up to the required level, the distilled water can be occasionally used to top up in your battery also. Hope this helps

Did you change both front and rear speakers? How much a pair of MTX costs? What is the size? Did you replace the tweeter as well? I too want to change it to MTX components.

You can top-up the coolant, that should not be an issue. But make sure you fill it up to the "Max" mark, not up to the brim of the container. Remember, the coolant level in the container will reduce when the engine is cool and it will increase when the engine is hot.

I only changed the front speakers to MTX components. They were upsized to 6.5" . Not a 100% sure about the size, but they were larger than the components that came out of the Verna. A wooden ring was used.

The tweeter was also replaced. The tweeter fit perfectly and was almost the exact same size as the Verna tweeter.

Doesn't Hyundai has some general check up plans? Maruti has similar stuff where they check all fluid levels & top up if required, clean air filter, check electricals etc [5-point check, 9-point check etc] which costs paltry amounts like 120/-, 250/- etc. I suggest you do this - so you can have a chat with the SA and get to know if they had similar cases already.

I know it's OK to use distilled water to top up battery; but NOT sure of using it to top up the coolant.

Was it done by an after market guy? Any pics? Can we have a pic of the sub ?

Did you make any alteration on the door panel? How much the MTX costs?

From my understanding, Its perfectly normal to top up the coolant with distilled water, since its the water content of the coolant that evaporates leading to the lower fluid level.

You dont have to do any alteration to the door pads, you can use a wooden spacer to install the speaker. Any decent installer will be able to do this.

Hey guys, I'm going to test drive the Verna Fluidic tomorrow. Needed some inputs on what prepare for or what are the key things I need to note in the car. I'm already aware of the soft suspension and light steering (at high speeds in particular) problem.

Apart fro that, I have also heard that the audio in the Verna is not great. I don't really care about touch-screen, GPS and all that fancy schizmo, but I really want a good sound for my music. Has anyone upgraded their sound? If yes, can you please let me know what you have done?

Test Drive Results
Took the Fluidic Verna 1.6 VTVT SX for a spin today at Sreenath Hyundai, Andheri West, Mumbai. I will post a separate thread reviewing the dealership. About the car itself, I'm going to put my thoughts down in a list:

• My test drive was pretty short. So couldn't get a change to test out the high speed calibre of the car. Though I must say that the 1.6 litre engine is spectacular. I touched 100 on a rather short stretch of road almost without realising it. Excellent pickup, and I'm a sucker for pickup.
• We also did a section of unmade road. Overall, the car handled itself pretty well. I turned off the AC and the music to listen to any thuds. Now, I did take the "road" (if you can call it that) extremely slow, but I still felt the car did ok. I didn't hear any thudding or any scary sounds at all.
• While on the topic of AC -- I was severely disappointed. The driver who accompanied me said that it was probably because the car had been standing in the sun, but I still was not impressed. The AC noise was pretty loud and still the car wasn't cooling as well as it should have.
• And while we're on the topic of the audio -- oh, this was EXTREMELY disappointing. :mad: Even though the test driver had raised the bass levels (and even something called "P.Bass") to max, the sound was muddy and annoying. There is no way that anyone who even remotely enjoys music while driving could make do with the OEM audio kit. Upgrades are a must. I had carried my USB drive along to test the sound and I actually felt like not listening to the songs. Also, there's apparently, no way you can browse by folder. You can just skip to the next song.
• And because of the peculiar shape of the HU/ICE in the Verna, you cannot replace it with the standard 1-DIN or 2-DIN devices. In order to improve the sound, you will need an amplifier. Also, front speakers cannot be connected to the amplifier as doing so would take away your bluetooth connectivity (apparently).
• The information display is an absolute delight. :thumbs up It looks modern and very classy. You can dim the display all the way down to 0 (almost). It's easy to see everything and nothing is cluttered. You have 2 tripmeters, outside temperature display, distance to empty, average speed for current trip, etc etc. A lot of information at your fingertips.
• Steering controls are nice, and they come standard for all 1.6 cars. They seem to be a little more elaborate and functional than the Honda City steering controls, which are, in comparison, rudimentary.
• Steering wheel itself is kind of big (compared to City) and felt a little clumsy. It's extremely light, though, and once again, very good for city driving (as has been said by most others). Tilt steering is disappointing. It doesn't tilt much.
• The clutch pedal is extremely light. For the entire duration of the drive, I didn't feel too much tension in my left foot. Very good for the traffic.
• Back windows are small. They've given preference to form over function. I'm 5' 8" and the window starts at my shoulder/neck level. Too high.
• Base 1.6 doesn't get alloys, but the wheel cover looks fine. In fact, personally, I didn't feel there was much difference between the 1.6 SX alloys and the 1.6 standard wheel caps in terms of looks. By the way, Hyundai gives 5 alloys on all versions except base. Comparatively, Vento and City give only 4, I believe (spare tyre is steel wheel). Also, the Verna alloys cost 5k each, compared to Honda (Linkway Honda quoted 6k per alloy wheel).
• Like the reverse parking camera.

Overall

I felt like this is a 7/10 car. After you get over the awesome display and the reverse parking camera and other gizmos, you feel like the car is quite ordinary. Audio upgrades are really expensive and it just feels like this car isn't giving you VFM. I was looking forward to booking one tomorrow because they promised delivery in 3 weeks flat. But unfortunately (for Hyundai), I took a test drive of the City (again) and also the Brio, and now I'm not in a rush to book a Verna...

BTW, my experience with Sreenath Hyundai today was good. Place was buzzing with activity but still I was not kept waiting too long for anything.

I drove a 1.4 fluidic verna to chennai and back. My findings-
- It is a brand new car, 10 days old and the AC went kaput mid way to chennai. Had to endure the chennai heat without an AC in the car.
- Its very comfortable, and i did not feel the stress of driving it or being passenger (as i was for 1/3rd of the journey)
- The review is bang on the money about the suspension. Its setup somewhere in between highway cruising and city conditions. Result, well, its too stiff for the city and its very floaty on the highways. Scary even if u hit an uneven patch of road at speeds.
- It returned a superb 16.5 kmpl, inspite of an average speed of 90 kmph and touching top speeds of 130-140 kmph. Impressive.
- The transmission ratios are super sweet. Absolutely the best part of the car. Its great in traffic and even better on the highway. I could overtake at ease even in 4th and 5th gears. For a 1.4, the engine is punching way above its weight.
- The steering is very accurate and gives good feedback. Its a drivers car rather than a chauffeur driven one.
- The ergonomics for the driver are fantastic.
- I found the brakes a bit spongy and not progressive enough. That said, it is effective.

In comparison to the Sunny i test drove just before that, this car is a dream.

I also tried using HP V220 w metal small usb in car but it did not work. A normal long scandisk usb worked. When purchasing a usb for verna what should i do if I want usb to look good and not wanna buy a long old fashioned usb.?

Hi !

I have finally installed Sony 6*9 oval speakers on the rear tray. A base was used and the tray was cut for fixing the speakers. Overall feel has improved. When fader is kept at middle, there is hardly any difference at the drivers seat, but sound quality for the rear passengers has improved significantly. Out put of the HU to the rear is very low & since I did not allow to cut the metal underneath the tray, bass is not as good as one would expect from the oval rear speakers.

The pen drive problem has been solved automatically. The problem was while playing, it comes to the first song. I apprehend that the problem may resurface. I fail to understand how the problem got rectified of its own. All my pen drives including the small 4 GB HP blue one works fine now.

As for better bass from the ovals, you need to cut out the area underneath them. This will give you a punchier system.

I'm surprised you don't find any difference. My car has components in the rear tray and the feeling is so much better than stock. I can clearly feel the surround effect now. If I set the rear to +4, the rear speakers over shadow the front.

Update on my car - Installed 6000k HIDs in the fog lamps. Did not do any jugaad. I bought HIDs in 881 type socket from china. Took 20 days for delivery but was well worth the wait since they're designed for this socket.

I will be putting up a detailed review very soon. Tied up at the moment.

IIRC, 4100k HIDs is what is legally allowed as per the IMVA. Please correct me if wrong.
