^^
Wasnt talking about handling in general. I meant that even if a driver was in a Polo and braked hard while cornering, it too would lose control rather than just understeer as ares thinks it would. It would understeer if it was turned hard without the use of brakes & that itself is dangerous as well. Also why i particularly mentioned "all things remaining constant" :)

Now lets get back to the real purpose of this thread. But i think that there isnt going to be anything too constructive until the launch as everything has already been exhaustively discussed :D

Have liked the car enough reading this review and others around the net. Went to Deep Hyundai in Delhi today and put in the 75k deposit. They did not agree to 50k despite my best efforts. Talked to a couple of people about pricing after putting in the deposit but no one actually knows anything. One of them even suggested that 1.6l engines will be automatic only. I told them to read t-bhp :)

Im asking this because im confused where the 1.4L verna will be positioned. The current transform has a 1.6L engine starting 6.58 ex showroom price. So, will the verna 1.4v petrol placed in this price range or higher?

The styling is unique but also a lill odd in some angles. The hood and front end looks nice but the rear is not exciting. Will have to wait and see whether verna will be benchmark in styling..! Also if they price the 1.4 L petrol verna at 6.6ex showroom, city is gonna loose some serious numbers from its charts...

For the most part, yes it is the segment which decides the price. The engine size sometimes does have an effect(disregarding the small car segment where the excise duty cut is applicable for <1200 cc engines). Smaller capacity engines reduce the premium image of larger sedans. But the power the engine makes is also a factor. The Honda City with its 1.5 Petrol which makes 116 bhp is a case in point (Compared to its current rivals which make at max 105 bhp from their 1.6 petrols)

However in the case of the Verna, the new 1.4 Petrol is better than the old 1.6. Higher power + VVT tech so it will definitely cost more to make than the older engine. From the few leaks so far, the base 1.4 variants get a fair bit of kit as well(music system, powered mirrors, driver airbag(?), and a few other bits), which is more than what the old 1.6 base had. I feel that the new 1.4 base will definitely cost more than the old 1.6 which is 6.58 lakhs ex-showroom delhi. I expect it to be priced at par with the Vento Trendline(ie ~7 lakhs ex showroom). The 1.4 diesel on the other hand has substantially lower power than the old 1.5, but like the 1.4 petrol it has a higher level of kit. Overall price could stay the same or could increase a bit. Current Verna diesel base is 7.9 lakhs ex-showroom, i expect the new 1.4 base to be similar(ie ~8 lakhs). The 1.6 variants would probably be 50k over the respective base variants. Final pricing should be out in two days so lets see. Hyundai has created a slightly premium image with the i10 and i20 so they may try the same game with the Verna as well, in which case prices may be higher, lets wait and watch

yeah. agree:. Considering the present verna 1.6, the 1.4 is better loaded. But is there any tax reduction between the 1.4l engines and 1.6 ones?

Eagerly waiting for the launch. We are planning to buy a new car this month. An i20 asta or the new verna 1.4 if they price it okay for my budget.

Are some more pics added to the site?

.

Not sure of tax reduction, but there is certainly a benefit of Rs 500 for insurance claims: for vehicles above 1500 CC, the compulsory deductible is Rs 1000, whereas it is Rs 500 for vehicles below.

Ok - I just checked - yes the car still runs without key inside

+ it has be in range of some sensors - if the key is outside even next to closed door - this does not work

Obviously! Many engine vitals (Brakes, PS included) are powered by the running engine...

Guys, will there be a live streaming or something of the launch? Has anyone from the forum been invited for the launch? Any idea where the launching ceremony is?

Well there is a small tax benefit for engines under 1500 cc. In the 2008 budget the govt had imposed a flat tax of Rs 15000/- for >1500 cc engines and Rs 20000/- for >2000 cc engines. Subsequently about a year later this was reduced to Rs 10000/- and Rs 15000/- respectively. However i am unsure if this tax still applies or has been scrapped.

The top end diesel automatic will be at least 2 lakhs lesser than the mid variant cars from next segment.

I strongly believe that Verna will be more spacious than Cruze. One of the major gripes of Cruze is the rear space. I think the RB has better rear space than the outgoing version.
@swiftnfurious

I agree with you 200%. I test drove Vento, Linea and Cruz last week end and observed the rear leg and head room specifically.

I felt that Vento and Linea provide much better leg room than Cruz. It was cramped at the rear. Even the front seat leg room is not so great for taller person.

Anyway, I enjoyed Vento Automatic test drive for the first time using tiptronic. Overall its a great car. No wonder its eating into City sales.

Cruz is a different segment and I don't want to compare with this segment (verna) car on the performance, handling etc.

The Cruze may have what many call a real stonker of an engine, but the terrible interior quality makes me shudder to think how one can spend 16 lakhs on it. After all you do spend most of your time inside!

Look at any Hyundai car in comparison. I would say even a santro has better interior fit and finish than a Cruze, forget about comparing the cruze to the verna in that respect.

Saw the new verna 1.6 Diesel SX in our local showroom today

Just some random thoughts:

Side profile is excellent. Its really sharp and the coupe like profile is really awesome.

Front kind of looks a bit disconnected from the side, it may be due to the sharp side profile and the front seems to be more rounded, especially the headlights.

Didnt like the gap between the hood and the front bumper it was too much. It had some rubber inserts between the gap, but didnt look that great, could have done better.

Headlights look unique, the front gives it a more bigger i10ish look, but its still unique. The hexagonal in the front didnt look outstanding in the white color as compared to the pictures, but here is a thought just imagine a chrome outline for the hexagonal and man it will look out of this world.

The rear looks good, first thing came in my head was man they could have made the rear more better, specially the tail lamps. Per my friend, if you meet an accident from the rear there is no way to put the tail lamps back in the exact same spot and align it the same way. In all the rear profile is different and will look unique in the night when the lights are on.

Rear visibility for parking is ok, not that great. It definitely needs the parking sensors and the rear view camera for parking. If you see the read picture attached you will notice that the visibility is very less.

The coupe like look is really awesome but thats a problem when it comes to headroom, my friend who is 6.2 had no head room I think he was able to slide a finger between the roof and his head. A small bump on high speed and if you have a rear passenger who is 6.2 or +, expect some repair in his/her neck or spine :)

The front seat is comfortable, the rear seat is not that comfortable though, very less under thigh support and the sitting angle is definitely not suitable for a very long drive. Good enough leg room though.

Tyres are excellent, nice profile 195/55 R16, if you notice in the picture you will see there is very less room between the tyres and the fender lining. I think this will be a problem after 2 yrs or so, specially since the suspensions are on the softer side.

The alloys look big and good, kind of matching with the tyres.

The interiors are really awesome, the blue glow in the display looks really cool. It definitely looks up class from the inside. However per my friend the quality of the i20 is better than the new verna.

The MID showed a mileage of 11 km/L. I've no idea where it was driven so cannot comment, but at least it gives 11 km/L :) not too good for a diesel car though.

More to come after the test drive.

I am so sorry I've to put a one liner here, I forgot to mention the pricing in my previous post. Per the sales guy the 1.4 Petrol base model will be around 7.5 on road and the 1.6 diesel SX (O) will be around 11.30 on road.

One of my friend and user of the team-bhp site said the photos I uploaded were not visible. They are still visible to me on Chrome but when I checked it out on IE they were not. I guess my chrome might have buffered them. Sorry for it and here I am posting the photos again.

One other thing, the 1.6 diesel engine sounds like a petrol one. It was really very very quite.

Thanks Sreeji for sharing the pictures, earlier they were not visible. It is quite clear from the decals on the Test Drive vehicle that the new car wouldn't be rechristened. It will carry the same old Verna badge. I was getting a feeling that it would be following the i** philosophy similar to the i10 & i20. Nevertheless if the engine & the car as a whole is a stonker who cares for the name.
