Re: XUV-5OO W8 FWD Satin White: Buying experince and initial ownership

Hi Falcon,
Congratulations on getting the delivery of your new ride. It looks absolutely stunning.
Could you please update us on the ride quality of the car once you have driven it sufficiently? Since you have driven the vento, how would you compare the build quality of both these cars? Apart from that, any problems with the electronics?

Hearty congratulations. Your story of booking the Vento & then cancelling it for the XUV made an interesting read. More than you it was your Dad who had the "love at first sight" after watching the XUV, quite amazing.

Please do take lots & lots of interior pictures & share with us all the knick-knacks that you find very handy, which make the XUV stand apart. Also can you please take some night pictures with the headlights & foglamps on.

Enjoy your ride. Wishing you many happy (s)miles with your XUV.

I am slightly confused about the interior color.

Are beige interiors available with only certain (exterior) colors?

Beige is available with Satin white and black. The rest of the colors have the black and chocolate combination.

ICE cannot be changed as all the electronics are integrated to it.
Navigation system is provided by Map my India.
Touchscreen is Resistive Touch type.
Cannot upgrade stock mag wheels. Tyre pressure sensors does not work if upgraded.
thanx alot for this information, i am not a big fan of Nippon i think they make the worse car audio system, however i guess we would have to live with it. However, i am happy that pre-outs are provided.

With capacitive screens available for cheap price i wonder why mahindra went the resistive screen. Could you tell how responsive it is to finger touch being resistive?

You can always add a sound processor to over come this drawback. Whatever the make is, it will for sure help in better sound. Thats what i am doing for my XUV.

Congratulations on your XUV I would highly recommend installing the reverse camera too, as during the test drive, I felt the car needs it very badly. It was a pain to reverse the car.

Floor mats : They dont fit in properly. A good chance of your shoe getting stuck and it sits over the dead pedal which can also get u stuck there. I have given these feedbacks to the M&M senior management guys who visited me other day. They have promised to look in to this. Till then be little careful .

I dont think capacitive screens can be used in cars as they will be too sensitive for cars, unlike in phones.

I dont know about the Bimmers but I have worked in Land Rover and even they come with resistive touch screens. resistive screens can handle more abuse when compared.

Re: XUV-5OO W8 FWD Satin White: Buying experince and initial ownership

Good write up falcon... and congrats for the car! right decision!

you inquired with the service guys about the ICE as you said... can you also please ask them if possible about the speakers, like can we change them for better output. so the final setup would be like --> bigger and better speakers + woofer + amp for speakers + amp for woofer (so total two amps if required) and does it interfere with the warranty? coz I asked the SA at the dealership and he said that you may loose the warranty on the HU if you change the speakers.

and also if you can please check if there is a button on the steering to change the folder or track while listening to ipod or from USB stick/Hard disk. I see volume buttons and besides them phone on and off while using it on bluetooth but no button for changing track and folder. I think they double as track changing buttons too but please confirm about this.

Where could one find this "sound processor" -How do you install it/ Can it be a DIY job or needs specialists? would it need splicing the oem wire harness?
Rgds

You can always change the speakers, add amps etc to get a good sound. Till the time you are are not changing the HU or cutting the wires, you are SAFE. SA telling these stories are all crap. They themselves dont know anything so they say whatever they can think of. Go ahead and add amps, comps etc but make sure that its done from a good installer and he does not cut any wires.

You can get that online or from a good ICE shops. Yes it can be DIY if you know what you are dealing with. It doesn't require splicing of wires hence no warranty issues.
