Your logic is incorrect, I'm afraid.
If the wheel is spinning, there's too much power at that corner and the TCS/ESP/TRS computer will have to reduce the output at that point and send it elsewhere.

Re: Land Rover Discovery 4: R and D

That's an awesomely put-together report Sid. It was short, it was crisp and it brought out the off-roading prowess of the LR Discovery in all its glory. I am sure you had a whale of a time with the LR Discovery and, needless to say, it's not quite surprising that you have become a fan of this macho SUV now.

On the contrary to what many people might think, I am a big fan of the Discovery's boxy proportions and the designed-with-a-ruler styling. But, as you said, it deserves to sell more in India.

This is the AT shift lever which also has buttons for low range and Hill descent contol function next to it.
A screen located at the central console shows the various parameters and directs the driver on the behavioral aspects of the vehicle.

Also just to add the discovery has 4 suspension height modes/settings . 3 of those can be chosen by the driver which are Access height , standard and off-road mode . The fourth mode is the emergency extend mode which rases the discovery even more than the off-road height setting and it gets activated automatically when the vehicle bottoms out .

Shouldn't it be the other way around? Any open differential will give more power to the spinning wheel and none to the other one. The computer should ideally give more power to the wheel that has traction and not the spinner so that the vehicle can move forward.

Sid please check on this statement you made.

Re: Land Rover Discovery 4: R and D

Thanks Sid for the crisp report. Lucky you.

Except for the rear overhang which looks ugly like the vehicle overall.

I really don't think folks buy SUVs of 50-70 lakhs to take it where it is supposed to be taken. It falls in the 3 categories that you rightly said in your opening post. So even with all the utility that LR Disovery might bring to the table finally the looks, interiors, exteriors and snob value would matter to make it sell big numbers.

Pure offroaders i guess would be happier with their Jeeps/Gypsies etc.

Strictly my opinion. NOM.

Thanks for sharing the report Sid. Always knew that LR has the ability to run on all types of terrains, but reading the above extract is truly amazing experience.

But apart from this Sanewal showroom, does any other JLR showroom in India has such type of Test Track?

Re: Land Rover Discovery 4: R and D

I feel Discovery is the most appropriate Rover. And to test drive it on such a terrain? Must have been hell of an experience. Nice pics and writeup Sid. Did you take any video? Please post it if you have. Will be interesting to watch.
