Hi guys,

Was just looking at the Ertiga today and found this on the front right side of the bumper. Couldn't understand what this is.



Can anyone shed some light on this?

Its the toe hook cover. I came to know about it when I first hit the car from bottom. The hook cover came out a little bit. On hitting it the second time, it fell apart. Although Ertiga has a ground clearance of 185mm, the front bumper seems to get touched often while parking or on a steep speed barrier ( always the BOTTOM part). Maybe the soft suspensions are to be blamed.

The Ertiga is front wheel drive, hence it has to 'pull' its load instead of 'pushing' the load in a rear wheel drive set up. You would have noticed that the Railways in ghat routes have an engine at the back to 'push' the train.

95% of the time you would not need the 'pushing' capability, its in extreme situations like the one you got into that needs extra help. An SUV like the Safari or Scorpio or even the Innova, which are all rear wheel drive vehicles would have been able to traverse this predicament without a problem

Another problem I can see is that a petrol engine is not known for 'torque' which is pulling power, if you had a DDiS Ertiga in the same situation, the torque of the diesel motor would have bailed you out

Moral of the story - Since the Ertiga is petrol and front-wheel drive, be wary of areas that you need a 'push' and hence avoid/plan accordingly

Ertiga is a FWD car with lousy MRF ZVTV tyres all round so the first problem is grip is low.

Second issue, your car being fully loaded, weight transfer is to the rear part so when the car is on hills, weight is transferred further on the rear axle lifting the front end causing not enough grip to the front wheels to provide traction to pull the hill start off.

Thanks for the replies. I will keep this in mind while planning my next tours. Also will think of changing the tyres to a better grip ones.

I rode about 150 km on the highway as a passenger in the front in a diesel Ertiga. There were lots of diversions and stop-and-go situations along with steady cruising. I felt it was underpowered (it had about 18k kms on the odo). I asked the driver how he felt about the power and he said it was underpowered.

This would be a better vehicle if it had the 1.6L MJD, IMO.

Couple of updates on my Ertiga:

a) Got the A/C Panel filter
b) Changed the lane change indicator from three blinks to four
c) Checked and tightened all the seat bolts and nuts. But, the rear seats still rattle as they are movable ones.
d) As we don't use the third row seat frequently, got a noodle mat to cover the entire seat when folded.
e) De-badged Rear

Got this done at MSM Chennai. Not sure about the process. Time taken 10 mins and they charged Rs 110/-

I disagree on the part that the Ertiga is underpowered. Initially I thought the same as the specifications on paper makes the car look underpowered but it isn't. Also the thought that a 1.3L engine for a Innova size is miniscule but the VGT in that engine had done the trick. Try keeping it between 90-110 kmph and it travels like that for hours together, low turbo lag and decently silent when compared with competition.

Hope you meant Cabin air filter? Isn't that coming with the car as stock or you mean you replaced it?

Yes Anurag. It's the Cabin Air filter.

No, Cabin filter isn't part of the standard fitment. It's an add-on.

Not sure but I think using the OBD Reader, one can change this setting using the software and accessing blinker settings and I have heard it from few folks who have got it done.
