Dear Ajmat , I am planning to buy a used jetta ,can you tell me how is the service cost and also what are the things to look for in the old 2L jetta?

I see the 2009 to 2010 jetta's being sold for 8 to 11 L and looks tempting ,is it worth? or should i go for the 1.9L which i can get for little cheaper rate

Avoid the 1.9L. The 2L is good on pocket as well. Service cost if not at VW and at a local workshop can range between 5-6K and at VW service station it can be around 12K.

Too many variables here including miles driven, number of drivers driving it, if 2010 they have 4 year warranty which means u have one more year to use the warranty.

Hard bargain and the price can b e around 8L or 9L.

Share more information on type of car coming for sale and we can help.

It is quite a sturdy car, the 2.0 110PS engine is the best of the lot. Do check door seal, AC and clutch condition. These are the main failure points!

Hi , Can you advise on the running-in , no of kms for manual version - thanks. Also related to engine r.p.m. range to be maintained. Is occasional "blipping" OK ?

Hi Ajmat,

Can you please let me know the insurance premium you have been paying for the jetta for the 2nd and 3rd years ??

I wanted to know how much would the Zero dep, bumper to bumper insurance cost for the second year. Usually there would be a 10% decrease in the total insurance cost which incase the insurance has not been claimed. Just wanted to confirm the same

Long time No update

Car has been coping w
ell with the Sarjapur commute. Due to the slight turbolag and heavy nature of the car, it is a little slow in absolute jam packed traffic as I like to give a lot of proxoimity to others. I time my comutes early morning and mid afternoon and avoid the thick traffic. It also helps open up the Jetta.

The Jetta took in a quick trip to Chennai with 5 passengers. They were impressed with the cruising speeds. My cousin's wife who is supposed to be a terrible backseat driver, stayed mum. Thats the benefit of multilink suspension.
The only problem is that you need to keep an eye on the speedo. I have set the speed warning to 60km/h. Hence plenty of boings whenever I press the accelerator.

Over the Xmas holidays, I was not too well, so the Jetta was no used. On 31st Dec, I moved the car to a more secure parking inside the apartment compound to avoid New Year Vandals. On Jan 3rd started the car up, moved it out and the alarms started shreiked for a couple of seconds and the cluster stated "Brake Fluid"

Happy New Year!

Opened the bonnet to find this

A bandicoot decided to nibble. I normally park the car off street here there are stray dogs that patrol the rodents. I contacted VW Rajajinagar and whats apped the picture nd was assured that this could be repaired. Since I had a service coming up shortly, I decided to put up with the morning shrieks and attend to it during the service.

20000 Km came up and it was time ofr a service - according to the service indicator. The car still felt tight as a nut. Set up an appointment and delivered the car.

Car was lifted on the ramp, with the exception of a rag left in the chassis from my episode at Elite motors, it was clean and very few scrapes

VW Rajajinagar seem to be a victim of their success. Due to the volume, I could only get the car only on the next day. Check in took only 15 min.

I got an SMS indicating my final bill amount and that the car was ready for collection. It took barely 20 minutes to collect the car.

The overall bill came to Rs 15000. Around Rs 1500 was for redoing the brake wiring. All filters were replaced/

Although the car went in feeling as if it did not require a service, it came back with improved lower end. Tomorrow, the mods will drive and give their opinion.

One interesting note was that they track the brake disc/pad and tyre wear rates. You do not get it on the bill but I spotted it in the job card documentation.

After my initial expereince with VW, things are getting more systematic and improvements like SMS alerts. One disclaimer, VW Rajainagar are aware of my credentials.

An observation - although the dealer might need to increase resources to improve throughput time, VW's sale performance does not give the dealer confidence to expand and hence remain cautious.

Motoring on, a pothole or some other form of low life meant that one of my wheel centres went missing

It was a choice of half a day going to dealer and spending Rs 520 for one item or doing a little legwork. I discovered that I could get 4 wheel centres for Rs 1200 of ebay.

The pictures looked genuine and I had little to lose. I ordered them from here and they arrived, "Made in Germany" but straight from Chengdu!

They were well wrapped and snapped on the car within minutes

On Friday, with the tank approaching the quarter full mark, I pulled into refuel. I drove on and found the fuel needle had not moved. A quick refuel check found that the petrol bunk were not at fault.

The needle stayed and 1/4 and the distance to refuel also tallied. Later on, it slowly moved to 1/3, by Saturday night, the fuel gauge showed half a tank and by Sunday evening, it showed full. looks like the float mechanism has arthritis.

Happened with our Jetta too once. Filled it to the brim and the gauge showed only 3/4th full. Used the car and the gauge dropped as per usage with the range tallying. It became alright on the next refill. The event has not recurred yet.

Rolling on to 27000, very little to report except the cars got smoother. Partially helped by adding 3M diesel additive for past couple of tankfuls.

A/C was losing its effect. Booked into VW Rajajinagar to replace the filter, they merely said that they will clean it since the service is due in a couple of months. They completed in 20 min and refused to charge me for it.

Well done VW and service advisor Bopanna, VW service is on the uptick!

Just back from a weekend trip to Pahwna, beyond Pune.

Left Sarjapur at 3.30PM and got to Hubli at 10.30 PM (included a Benne Dasa stop in Davangere). The Jetta sustained excellent cruising speeds. 6th gear made more sense after tumkur when we could cruise above 100km/h. Below this speed, the car struggles in a high gear.

Beyond Davangere , the roads became four lane, over there, we kept swapping cogs between 4 and 6th gear. 4th gear provides excellent power and flexibility for overtaking. Beyond Belgaum, the swooping curves were easily despatched.

The Jetta breezed over Maharashtra's poor roads and diversions without a murmur. Speedbreakers were conquered and there was very little scraping, None of the passegners felt tired. The Jetta scraped only once

We picked up a 100kg passenger at Pune. The Jetta then picked up a little bit of understeer. Despite that, the Jetta covered the roads around Khamset with an amazing pace.

With 5 up the car scrapped the odd speedbreaker.

There was a rattling sound like a stray pebble rattling in the suspension at sppeds between 120-140km/h. It disappeared for a while and then reappeared. After dropping off our heavy Pune passsenger, the noise disappeared.

I also spent time in the back and found it comfortable and caught up on quite a bit of sleep.

Now the next service beckons!

Our average fuel consumption was 16.5 km/l and we were not going slow!

This car has spoilt me!!! Ajit shared the driving with me and I got a good 300kms from Ranebennur to Sarjapur road on the return leg. That was the best portion of the road where I could stretch the Jetta's legs.

The car is a dream to drive with a brilliant chasis. 80 kmph feels like you can get out and start walking till you see that you are at 80kmph. As speeds increase it only gets better. Ride and handling is in a different league. We did 550kms from Belgaum to Sarjapur road non stop. The only stop was a 10minute tea and driver swap at Ranebennur where I took over from Ajmat. The roads were brilliant from then on and I had a wry grin across my face throughout. I wasn't going slow by any means but I had the owner of the car as well as fellow mod Khan_Sultan sleeping in the back seat!!

I am now searching for the 6th gear in my Ecosport and Altis. The Ecosport sounds like a tractor after the Jetta's diesel refinement and the ride feels like someone removed the springs from the Ecosport. The Jetta has an explosive 3rd and 4ht gear as Ajmat mentioned. A shift down to 4th means instant torque, shoves you backwards on the seat and you fly past the slow truck/bus in a flash.

This car is a highway rockstar!!! In the city you need to get used to clutch which is heavy and easy to stall the car. The brakes are super grabby at slow speeds which don't help either. You cannot have as much fun with the DSG than with the manual but the DSG in this car makes a lot of sense if it sees more of city driving.

The Jetta DSG remains my pick of car in India. The facelift is even more tempting now:D

Glad you enjoyed the car. To be fair, the only thing that woke me was the drivers 's appalling taste in music. I guess you will be searching for 6th gear in your dreams now!

Oyye, don't dream of the 6th gear and engage Reverse!lol:

After my trip to Pune, got a low coolant alert. Topped a litre of water and it was fine until today. I was taking the car in for the 3rd service and the light pinged again.

Just got a call that the water pump is leaking and needs to be replaced as also the front suspension arms (I do push the car a bit!)

The impending water pump failure is unforgivable for a 30000km 3 year old car. Same thing happened for the Skoda RS but that was a total failure but the replacement lasted well!

German cars costs are catching up!!!
