Punit, any idea if the dealer has exclusive agreement with VW/Skoda or there are few more? Also, were there other company owned cars available from VW with the dealer? If yes, how was their condition?

Does the price 11.18 lacs include dealer comission?

AFAIK, the 7 speed DSG is meant to be mated to lighter engines.

The 7 speed is offered on the Superb with exactly the same engine. But VW offered the Passat petrol only with an M/T. In fact I think they switched to Tsi and MT after there were a lot of problems with the DSGs they had earlier.

Re: Bought a pre-owned VW Passat 1.8L TSI

Is this mod friendly ? I mean if you put a CNG kit like one of our fellow members have done on a Honda Civic.

Then you not only have a fantastic car, but also running costs like a two wheeler

Just a thought I'm sharing, no offense meant. You could very well enjoy the finer points of running a petrol car

Cheers

Re: Bought a pre-owned VW Passat 1.8L TSI

My friend has also bought a VW owned old style Jetta Trendline in August. In December, I accompanied him for the annual service to B U Bhandari VW West and saw almost 10 Jettas for sale in their yard.
These all were company cars for sale.

I believe they were disposing of the old style fleet, and prices were very tempting. For example, my friend purchased a 30000 km run 2 year old Jetta Trendline for 10.75L only.

The Rs. 11.18 lakhs quoted was the all inclusive price with transfer and Octroi and dealer commision. I`m not sure whether the dealer has an exclusive agreement. Yes there was a Passat very similar to mine which was sold yesterday (got to know when i called him for my insurance renewal). However the dealer expects 1-2 Passats a month. the Passat which was on offer was in spanking conidtion very similar to mine.

Both the diesel Passat and especially the superb were known to have issues with the DSG. While the issue didnt recur so much in the Petrol engined superb, the option was removed from the Passat mainly to improve reliability and to bring down the price closer to Superb territory.

Congrats on the car! The 1.8 TSi is a gem of an engine and being a manual you are saved from the troublesome 7 speed DSG.

Just to add, putting a CNG kit in a Passat with a 1.8TSi will be sacrilege. Please dont ever think about it.

Also, CNG may not really work on a TSi. Since it is direct injection i.e. no air-fuel mixture but air separately and fuel separately.

Not really sure on this but it probably will lead to more issues than savings.

Punit, you could have titled your thread "Stole a pre-owned..."

What a spotless gem you've got yourself. Kudos.

Now you've really set the cat amongst the pigeon. I'm going to hide my cheque book for some time.

Wish you a happy ownership & drive safe!!!

It's an interesting question though - will direct injection spell the end of CNG retrofits?

I've often wondered about this. The only thing I could think of was that if there is space in the cylinder head, the gas injector will have to directly inject gas like the petrol injector and that will make them more expensive and therefore the kits much more expensive.

If there is no space then the only option maybe to replace the petrol injector with a gas one and thus make the car a pure gas-powered vehicle. Dual-fuel will become a thing of the past.

Good thought, also dual-fuel cars don't always work too well. My friend got CNG fitted into his NHC. However once this was done the car didnt perform well at all on petrol and got stalled multiple times. However the same runs well on CNG

Re: Bought a pre-owned VW Passat 1.8L TSI

That is an amazing buy. Good luck with the new car, looks like you got an awesome deal and I hope you enjoy the vehicle for years to come

And regarding the car stalling on petrol - How do you mean Punit?
So when the CNG ran out, when he switched over to petrol the car would stall?
And do you know where he got his CNG work done?
I ask because I am, as I mentioned in another thread, considering setting up CNG in my Civic for cheaper drives and also to further enhance my possible distance covered in long distance driving. (Horribly structured sentence but I hope it holds up to scrutiny)

Anyways, once again, congrats on the beauty

Re: Bought a pre-owned VW Passat 1.8L TSI

That essentially brings us to fundamental questions

1. Are petrol or diesel engines designed to run on CNG.

2. What are the implications even if we get CNG from Factory i.e Maruti Cars with CNG. Do they have any changes done to engine etc.

3. Whatever be the case, long term effects with CNG usage, wear and tear specially in case of Petrol engines. I'm assuming here that CNG was primarily recommended as Diesel substitute, for public transport to reduce pollution.

All said and done still feel best refined engines are petrol ones and no substitute for that.

Cheers
