Re: Honda Amaze 1.5L Diesel : Driven

A very nice review there! By reading this, I think that the engine is better than those MJDs. Dzire is seriously in danger. It will relatively kill the cars in the segment. Pricing and branding is the main point here. The status/ image of the Honda is unmatched..! Are you listening Maruti?

Re: Honda Amaze 1.5L Diesel : Driven

Nice short & crisp review put up !!

The rear space may well turn out to be the USP for this car. Personally though, the car does not look as good as Dzire. Amaze seems to be a mix of Japanese with Korean (read Hyundai) sharp lines on the body.

The car may well change fortunes of Honda in India, though City with a diesel engine may well have found more takers than Amaze, just my personal opinion.

The pricing as always will be the deciding point for this car, a wonderful car in Jazz has been wasted by Honda with its pricing, a premium of maximum 20-25K is what this car can afford over Dzire, anything more than that and we may see another dud, just like the Jazz.

Re: Honda Amaze 1.5L Diesel : Driven

Waoow what a great review, Kudos to TBHP Much waited diesel version of Honda. A tight competition can be expected with DZire & Etios.

Waiting for some more details on interior & comfort.

Re: Honda Amaze 1.5L Diesel : Driven

Not a big fan of the looks of the Amaze - the styling is a tad awkward IMHO. Fine at the back but the front just doesn't do it for me. So the amalgamation doesn't look very homogenous which I think is the case most times when boots are slapped on to hatches to manufacture their sedan versions. However who am I to say right?? In India, some of our so-dubbed "ugly" cars have gone on to become best sellers. After all, practicality makes for a huge criterion for us and and the 1.5 i-DTEC is certainly not going to disappoint in that regard.

Btw recognize Viddy in the driver's seat there. Is that you GTO next to him on the passenger seat?

Re: Honda Amaze 1.5L Diesel : Driven

Great review vid6639 !

It sure came as a surprise and boy.. what a good one too!
This is probably 'THE' engine to end the monopoly of our beloved Quadrajet/MJD/DDiS.
Way to go Honda! And that too behind 90-95 horses! Just awesome!
Cheers,
Abhijeet.

Re: Honda Amaze 1.5L Diesel : Driven

Superb Review Viddy

It's about time Honda came up with a diesel mill for India. I think the market forced them to get into this mode considering their reluctance to heed to it from last few years.

Considering the diesielization of India, this was a smart move and also they chose the correct segment to make their diesel entry.

Btw, it wont win any awards in design. To me it looks like 50% Brio-50% Dzire

Lets see if it makes a dent into the ~14,000 units/month of Dzire sales

Re: Honda Amaze 1.5L Diesel : Driven

I never thought I'll like a sub-4-meter sedan having seen the likes of Indigo CS and Swift Dzire. Truly thankful to Honda for not building yet another eyesore!

The ground clearance seems to be especially high for a Honda. Good news for our pot-hole (and speed-breaker) ridden roads.

Re: Honda Amaze 1.5L Diesel : Driven

OMG ! Teambhp is AMAZE-ING
Thanks for the timely review about the most discussed diesel engine ever in India.

To be honest, I found the car look disproportionate. The front end treatment looks overdone, side creases are unnecessary and rear boot looks overhang compared to short nose. But I will wait till the real thing comes in flesh. Till then dzire looks better to me.

But the package looks terrific. We know the natural strength of Honda : space utilisation, ease of driving and good quality

If the engine is as good as per review then Honda has winner in hands.

How does this engine compare to ford and hyundai diesel ?

Re: Honda Amaze 1.5L Diesel : Driven

Awesome in many more ways than one.

1. Finally Honda gets the Diesel heart and lot of hope.
2. Team BHP gets invited to international event
3. The news about bigger Diesel engines being worked upon, for Accord and CRV. The future suddenly looks brighter.
4. Last but not the least, an worthy review about the car, which many have been eagerly waiting for.

Fully deserving 5* for getting onto to the next level (both for Honda and Team BHP).

Totally agree with you.

However, I feel it is a winner from Honda and they are going to sell good number of these in India.

Till now there wasn't any good competition to Dzire and Amaze looks equally desirable, if not more .

Re: Honda Amaze 1.5L Diesel : Driven

Proud of the fact that T-BHP got invited to this drive. Such an honor to be part of this community!

One word on the Amaze--True Dzire beater! I mean the car looks quite good and Honda has done an excellent job in converting the hatch to a sedan without being an eyesore. Maruti / Tata please learn from Honda!
I think this is the car that will really take on the dzire head on. If they can keep up with the demand I see Honda taking away 30-40% of sales from dzire in about a year after the launch.
I dont see much of an issue with the delayed petrol launch. 70% Cars of such entry level sedans are diesels anway. They will anyway bring in the petrol AT in a while.
Lastly I hope the engine has enough punch and would be fun to drive as well. The DDIS of Maruti with its slick gear box is still the bencmark in that aspect.

Re: Honda Amaze 1.5L Diesel : Driven

Hats off the mods team for getting an Amaze-ing review for the forum. Thanks Vid6639 again.

Although I would like to agree with most of the members that Amaze is proportionately balanced somewhere I still seemed to disagree. The front looks like more squeezed considering the body still looks like an over grown Brio. Looking at the rear, I am sure the boot will be cramped and not as spacious as other siblings (read Dzire,Vento etc). The 1.5ltr engine is perfect for a car of this proportions. Would be anxiously waiting for an official review.

What about the GC, will Amaze also suffer from the GC issues which City has?
