re: VW Polo GT TSI : Initial ownership & driving report. EDIT: Sold!

I'm honestly surprised at the lack of road trips. I really feel you need to take some time to visit nearby places and experience the food and culture. This is one of the best ways to experience any car - the urban setting is not the ideal place to experience any of your current or previous cars.

Indian roads are certainly a dangerous place but I feel you really should accept the reality of terrible traffic, terrible road manners, subpar infrastructure etc and go out and enjoy the world! Indian road conditions have made me more patient, more empathetic and more appreciative of life.

You won't even believe the power of a road trip - it removes the thought of changing the car every single time. Done 1.35 lakh kms in 9 years now. And every highway trip reminds us why we got the Vento in the first place.

Just a perspective from the other side.

re: VW Polo GT TSI : Initial ownership & driving report. EDIT: Sold!

Just a quick update from my side that I bought a GT TSi in mid 2019 and as of today the odo reading is only just approaching 800. Yes 800.

Is it technically still in the breakin stage?

Haha.

Ok I'll be back a bit later just to see how many folks here are going to reprimand me for this.

I am afraid it may be already rusting somewhere! I am sure you would be already aware that a car needs to be driven on regular basis to be in good shape. You may be doing some minimal runs but that may not be sufficient.

@chase_nt

We seem to be sailing in the same boat, only difference is my Gt Tsi travelled a memorable 1,12,000Kms and sold it because I wanted a change, also had bought a Taigun & was finding the Gt Tsi a little bare in terms of features & convenience.

I have also booked the N Line i20 DCT in N8 trim to replace the Gt Tsi. Before I decided on the N Line I Kept the TD car with me for an entire day and I adjusted quite well. Found it handled quite well both in the city & the highways too.

There are driving & handling differences tween the two but I found the N Line on par.

The only issue I found was the wear & tear inside the cabin, like the steering wheel, frequently used plastic bits developed a shine. Anyone sitting in the car could make out the most frequently used buttons with the ‘shine’ they developed.

Hope your i20 gives you good service & safe driving to you.

2500 kilometers out of the 4500 km on my car's odometer were road trips. The only years when i haven't taken my car out on a road trip were the year it was purchased and the current year.

The N Line DCT is a pretty good car however it doesnt match the German build quality that you see in a VW.

re: VW Polo GT TSI : Initial ownership & driving report. EDIT: Sold!

Here are a few photos of my N Line DCT. As it was really hot and sultry outside i wasn't able to click more photos. I feel that the car has hit the sweet spot in terms of power, handling, convenience and technology. If only it matched up to the build quality of the Polo then it would have been perfect.

Congratulations! Since the facelift is around the corner, did you manage to extract some discounts?

The latest Germans have spotty build quality as well, I own one & there’s a lot to be desired from it in terms of door sheet metals, door cladding, roof lining etc.,

The N Line is the closest alternative to the GT TSI so that’s why it’s my choice. Make no mistake I’d still buy another Polo TSI if it was available.

Congratulations on the N Line, probably the only able (close) replacement to TSI. Looking at your history, if I was in AP, would have given you token/booking amount for the N Line which you would sell few years from now Looking forward to read your new ownership thread.

Forget about a discount, i wasn't able to get even the usual freebies such as floor mats or even a car cover from the dealer. The only place where i could leverage the dealer was getting a discount on the insurance as i told them i would procure the insurance from outside unless they match the insurance quote i got from outside.
