re: Back to Diesel Power - Diamond White Mahindra Xylo H8 with ABS

Congratulations on your new Bus, Raj!! It really looks good in Diamond white. Are there any more features in the H models - compared to the earlier E models?

Thank you, and I don't think there is any feature addition in H series other than the Engine and gear box spec. There were many complaints on the 2nd gear stiffness in E series, but I am not experiencing any such issue in H series other than the normal stiffness for a new vehicle.

Re: Back to Diesel Power - Diamond White Mahindra Xylo H8 with ABS

Just came back after a 1330km road trip. Went to Erankulam and Alleppey and came back via Vazhachal - Sholayar, Valparai - Pollachi route. Xylo was performing extremely well in both highways and hills. It was a real pleasure to drive the car in the hills as it is pulling very nicely. For the return, started from Ernakulam by 8am and reached Bangalore by next day 2:15am, which is more than 18hrs including all food and photo breaks. I was not fatigue even after sitting these many hours behind the steering wheel.

Couple of observations,
  • mHawk engine is really marvelous. It was a real effortless driving in the hills
  • Changing the headlamp to Phillip Extreme Vision works great.
  • AC is very good for the passengers, but there is less throw to the front seat occupant when all the four vents are open. This will force us to use the AC in higher blower speed which makes lots of sound.
  • The front alloy wheels became almost black due to the breakdust
  • My kid was sleeping comfortably in the last row even in the bad and winding hilly roads, so I assume that last row bodyroll is quiet acceptable.

FE : Total fuel consumed is 110Ltrs, this will give the FE figure of 12.0km/ltr including driving through hills, city traffic in Kerala, and highways.

Some snaps on the way..

Re: Back to Diesel Power - Diamond White Mahindra Xylo H8 with ABS

Congrats Rajesh for a good buy.

The boot of the vehicle looks really small. The only option to carry luggage on long drive is either fold the third row seats or have a luggage carrier on top. I am not sure how the luggage carrier would look on a Xylo but I guess it won't fit the image of this tall boy SUV.

Thank you, yes the boot is small but if you plan your baggages properly you can fit in all the required things inside itself for a 4-5 day trip with 5-6 people. There are enough space under the seats, only thing you need to do is to carry the proper size bags. I may go with a luggage carrier only if it is a must.

Agree with you BeingCyncial that the boot space is very small (non existent, in fact) with all the seats in place. Its enough to keep small bags - but suitcases or big bags will definitely not fit.

I like the 3D bag on Mav's Xylo. They look good - unlike the conventional metal carriers which make the Xylo look like a Tourist vehicle.

Here are a few pics of our Xylo taken to various trips. Also a pic of how "Snoopy" takes up the entire center portion of the middle row . Long term review, well had planned to do it, but time just went by. Have an Eon, Figo, Vista and Xylo in our family!

P.S: You might also want to consider the roof bag by 3D. It is weather proof and very sturdy upto 120 kmph. Did not test beyond that speed.

Hi Gordon, got it for 6.5k from an accessory store in Thane. Had seen it in some magazine and ordered it from him, took nearly 5 months to receive. The material is very tough, similar to the 3d floor mats and it can be rolled like a sleeping bag. We can fit atleast 5 cabin bags comfortably with room left for more. You may need to check locally for availability, as I have not seen the same bag anywhere else. The strings to hold the bag are tough and of ratchet type which makes it easy fasten and remove. Although there is no locking facility incase left unattended.

We faced the same issue with the air flow on the front vents. Not sure what exactly was the problem - but it was resolved after the first service. Do car manufacturers put foam pieces inside the a/c vents to prevent dust from entering the cabin (like they fix foam pieces on the corners of the car to prevent scratches?) when they dispatch new cars from the factory?

Thank you..this is really interesting. I am just short of 1K kms to the first service. By next 2-3 weeks I will be touching 5K, and will check it again when it comes back from the first service.

First Free Service completed at 4155km

Took my Xylo to Anant Cars Workshop in Hulimavu yesterday for first free service. The Odo was at 4155 and returned with an Odo reading of 4165.
Apart from the first service, here are the other complaints I had and reported.
  • AC not functioning as expected. At driver seat, I am not getting the air flow or coolness in step.1. But for the rear seats its all fine.
  • Silencer Pipe touching the nudge guard clamp.
  • A small vibration noise coming from the top of the steering wheel, its very minor.
  • Wiper blade making some noise, I suggested them to replace that
.

Gave the vehicle at 09:15am and got it back at 5:30pm. Total damage to the pocket including tax - Rs.1900/-

The billing amount is tallying exactly with the amount mentioned in the http://www.withyouhamesha.com/ServiceCalculator.aspx

All complaints attended, but steering noise was not resolved. It is very minor now and I am ready ignore it. My perennial problem of tail pipe touching the nudge guard clamp was duly attended and rectified.

Now the car is behaving little more sportier and easy smooth drive. They have tighted all body nuts and bolts, so I am feeling less roll even on bad roads. The brakes are improved. This weekend I am travelling to my home town and will check the FE during the trip.

While the SA delivered the vehicle, I has asked him how to access the AC filter so that I can do a cleaning myself if there is a fall in AC cooling. He was willing to show me, but I missed to take a video of how to take it out. I have the below video to show how to fit back the dash board parts once the AC filter is cleaned. Please excuse for the poor video quality.

Here is the AC filter unit, you have to remove the clamps to open and take out the filter.

Back to Diesel Power - Diamond White Mahindra Xylo H8 with ABS-img_1222.jpg

Here is the video of closing the Dashboard units.

If anyone trying it by yourself, please note that these are delicate plastic parts and there are high chances of breaking it. For opening the dashboard, the sequence is first the open the sider cover, then the Glove box side clips, then the hydraulic lever and takes out the glove box.

Re: Back to Diesel Power - Diamond White Mahindra Xylo H8 with ABS

Congrats on your purchase of Xylo H8 RajeshK.

I am also contemplating a H8 version since I want a large car with space and there are very few options that would fit the budget.

Only other option I have is Enjoy. I am in a see saw now with options tilting between Enjoy and Xylo. Enjoy scoring in the car like feel and mileage.
Xylo on everything else.

I hope I will decide in the next few weeks.

Re: Back to Diesel Power - Diamond White Mahindra Xylo H8 with ABS

I see very little space between 2nd row captain seats for people to move into/out 3rd row seats..how difficult is it actually? I have driven and traveled in an 8 seater Xylo only.. but always I had a doubt on this aspect for sometime regarding the 7 seater.

Touching 1year - All free Services over @13.7K Kms

Its been a long time that there is no update on this thread. By this 29th June I will be celebrating the one year of ownership. Actually I was not able to drive much due to some medical issues. So there is less to update too.The car is currently clocked 13700km and all the free services are over. The services cost was exactly the same listed in the "With you Hamesha" web site + taxes

Apart from the regular service, 2 times I had to visit the Service Center

1. Cleaning the AC filter and there was a cling-cling sound coming from the front right side. This was found to be a mis-aligned metal piece between the break pad.

Here is the culprit for that

2. One of the rear parking sensor went bad. It was continuously beeping and changed under warranty.

Accessories added during the year : Dash camera
This has 8gb microSD and it will keep recording once connected. The recording will stop if there is a sudden shake or if it is falling down.

Camera Spec

Here is one of the video taken after the sun set.

The cleanliness of the windshield will directly affect the video quality.

Some of the random pictures taken recently while I was in my home town.

Max FE recorded is 14.5 and minimum is 9.5-10.5 in the bumper to bumper traffic in Bangalore.

Total amount spend for fuel in this year : 53500/-
Total amount spend for Service so far : 7061/-
Which is roughly around Rs4.4/km.

Thanks
Rajesh

Its easy for small kids to move as they can jump over of move under the hand rest provided. If there is no hand rests, then adults also can move easily. The biggest disadvantage for 7seat is, if you have lots of luggage then its only a 4seater car.Or else you have to fill some of the baggage in the middle portion of the seats and make it 3 seats for the middle row..!!

Congratulations on completing a year (almost)

What medical issues? Hope all is well.

Thanks for the review of the Xylo. There aren't many available, and yours is detailed and well written, with nice pictures as well.

Could you please share the cost of the Dash Cam? Where did you purchase it from? I find that a dash cam is increasingly becoming a necessity, especially with warranty, insurance, and police issues.
