Won't this be true for all cars we drive? To get more momentum (cruise or accelerate) you have to press the throttle more.

Hi motomaverick,

Could you pl elaborate on what kind of remap are you referring to? Would like to definitely improve upon the power, especially on the highways.

Well I don't own a duster but the above suggestion was generic which I would have implemented. What I meant is changing the current ECU software or a remap to produce more than 120 bhp, that way you will not have turbolag plus higher power. But this change if detected by company will void the warranty.

There are tuning boxes available also as alternatives, that can be unplugged easily before sending the vehicle for service or warranty claims.

But I still will not recommend these for the 85ps Duster as the gearbox is not designed to handle higher torque. The gearbox is designed to handle 200mn torque which this Duster already delivers.

I believe here the comment is in comparison with the 110ps Duster. Which cruises at higher speed at much lower RPM in 6th gear, while still holding the punch for quick overtakes.

The acceleration is pretty slow after this. The acceleration is very nice up to 3000rpm.

Planning for a high range trip and was curious to know if the Duster 85 pulls along well on high range without any fuss.

On this trip to Ooty I had 2 adults and 2 children with few bags of luggage. I wouldn't say it was loaded much.

Then my Coorg trips had 4 adults and 2 kids with full luggage. I had removed the rear tray to accommodate the luggage. The 85ps pulls well. Change gears generously and keep the RPM around 2000 which is a sweet spot. On hills change gear around 2300rpm

There was an 85ps Duster on this trip to Leh http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...hd-2013-a.html

I ordered a beige, as that was the lightest shade available. My interiors are butterscotch. The one from eBay delivered and looked like this.
Attachment 1143636

The material seemed good. Only disappointment was the black pieces that looked like metal to me are actually plastic. But for the weight of our hands, it must be durable. Cannot exert pressure on it though. The armrest is screwed into the center console for a permanent fix.

How is the arm rest fairing? Is there any quality issues as the base is plastic? Pl let me know if its serving well in terms of the distance between the console and the gear shift handle. Also pl let me know the cost for the same.
Planning to buy one soon as I am pretty used to it from my Optra magnum days.

As it is plastic, you have to be careful. It feels delicate at the base. It has been holding well for me so long.

Was pointing out the absolute lack of top end grunt. May be I should have used the the word 'unusually'. :)

Are you sure it cant take more than 200 NM of torque, I don't think they will make mechanical components with such less tolerance levels. If the Tata gear box can take 260 NM of torque I am sure Renault will be much more superior.

Thats right, Duster 85ps was designed for max 200nm torque. The tuning on this engine is able to match it at max output. Basically this is the same engine that starts at 65ps, used in some of their popular cars.

The Duster 110ps engine is lot different than then 85ps. This includes having a stronger crank, stronger rods and pistons to handle the higher torque.

This does not mean 85ps cannot handle higher torque. This is the safe max load tested by the manufacturer.

Found a link on our own TBHP that also says about the 5 Speed gear box of 85ps K9K 702 engine. The components can not handle anything above 200nm.

I'd rather keep away from tuning boxes or engine remap for the 85ps to increase power. The factory tune itself is the best.

If you plan to do such a thing in future, then the 110ps should be your choice. It has a VGT turbo and has next generation stronger components. All new engines with higher BHP might come out as variants from this block for sometime.

So HillMan, verdict is out. This is what I intended to ask & got the spot on reply.

Hi Hillman, I have orderd the universal arm rest and plan to fit it as soon as I receive it. Since you have been using it since last Sep, could you pl update as to how its holding up. My worry is as the base is fastened to the center console base with just 4 screws will it hold its stance over a period of time even if carefully used. Pl share your latest update.

If Pahwa could also share his experience it would be of great help.please:

It is really comfortable and utility to keep small stuffs like parking/toll ticket/cards, some loose change and tissue wipes also.

The screws will loosen up as time goes, so the base wont be stiff. There will be a little play at the base when you open close armrest lid. But that is not so much that the utility of the product is lost. It wont shake and rattle either.

Hello Hillman, I am planning to get the Universal armrest for my White Duster to be delivered this week. Also, planning to get seat covers from Imperial leathers. I am also planning to get the armrest covered in leather (PU) like you did.
Where in Bangalore can I get the armrest fitted? Will Shivkumar (Imperial) help with fitting the armrest too?
Any recommended designs and colour for the seat cover for a white duster.

Shivkumar and team can help with the armrest fitting when they remove the seats for fitting seat covers. You will not get a proper fit without detaching the front seats.

Also let him know for stitching the cover for armrest with same material so he gets stitching time. He may not have template for armrest so he will need remove it and find out.

Lookout for designs at their FB page or you can go and select from catalog at the shop.

All the very best :)

Hi Hillman,
I hope you are doing great.
Your thread is amazing. :)
I have a question, in the lower beam section i can see two bulbs. So if we are opting for HIDs both bulbs should be replaced or only one. And yes I am talking about duster. :)
