re: An "adopted" Blue eyed boy: Pre-owned Maruti WagonR - Update - 8 Years & 81,000 kms Drove the RoadRunner from Hyderabad to Indore. The roads ranged from butter smooth 4-lanes to broken roads in beautiful ghat sections and ultimately, gut wrenching washed out ones.
The FE varied between 16-17 kmpl for the 3 tankfuls that I did. This can attributed to the consistent 3-digit speeds done on the 4-lane section, enjoying the road curves on the ghat section (in a tall-boy car ) and getting tortured to hell in the last section.
The last section of the trip involved about 80 kms of no road which took me ~3 hrs to cover (should take 4 hrs at least if you go carefully but I had lost my patience). Huge craters, sharp potholes, boulders, sand, mud and a lot more was encountered.
GC was tested several times. It passed except for 3 occasions but I was very slow and was going over mud or sand; no concern here.
I crashed into some potholes several times in this stretch and lost a wheel cap in the process (again, one of the clips was broken and it wasn't a tight fit). Checked the tyres and the Earth 1s are doing a good job, no visible damage here. Will get a set of new wheel covers or will remove the existing three to enjoy those black wheels. Some points from this trips:- The K10 engine loves the highways but the WagonR doesn't. 100-110 kmph is a very sweet cruising speed for the car.
- The brakes have started squeaking again. Not sure if the disc is at fault. No impact on the braking performance at all.
- After the horrible patch, lots of sounds can be heard, including one from rear left suspension.
- RoadRunner was a delight to drive on the ghat section. The roads were not very steep or narrow but had a lot of tight curves and roads were broken.
- Like a turbo diesel, keep the car in the power band and it pulls very well. A Brezza was following me in the ghat section and couldn't keep up at all. Could be that the driver was taking it easy.
- Small kicks around 2k and 3.2k RPM feel very good.
- Engine is quite dead below 1.5k RPM and needs throttle inputs after slowing down and shifting to first. But if one is not careful and on slightly loose soil, you get wheel spins in 1st and 2nd gears.
- Second gear is quite short and can be enough to pull after a speed-breaker if the car is not loaded but AC is on. At a toll gate, I was unmindful and pulled away from standstill in second gear and got to know when it was time to change the gear.
The odo stands at 53500 kms. Will be returning sometime this week via Bhopal as I have heard the roads are better even though it is longer by 200 kms. RoadRunner will be sent for a complete service thereafter.
