Team-BHP - New Owners report: Honda Civic MT

Hey Ram, I've test driven the AT for a very long duration in all of the modes. I was pretty happy with it even though there was a lag as in all autos.
The ease of driveability in traffic in a city like bangalore has got me thinking for it.
I wanted to know the long term issues the AT can pose. Basically if the maintenance is higher for an AT.

Thanks iraghava. Are there any issues as such with AT transmission's maintenance in heavy traffic and in general does the transmission give any problems.
I am aware of the fuel cost and the brakes geting worn out faster but wanted to know if AT's are good on indian roads.

It makes no difference if its euro 1 or 4 . all new cars are supposed to within acceptable emiision limits for 6 months from the date of delivery.

Infact some time back some owner also won a case against a manufacturer as the owner was fined for violating PUC norms even though his car was only 4 mths old. If I remember correctly the manufacturer had to pay the owner the fine plus court charges and incidental intrest

i have recently booked a night hawk black civic manual, i am planning to buy a few accessories, like fog lamps,trunk spoiler and the silver dash thingee. has anyone brought the silver dash accessories for the civic? because i one of the sales guys in linkway honda informed my dad that the silver dash gets spoilt due to the ac`s water ...which does not ,make sense to me,please advice me on this as he says thats the feedback he has got on the silver dash accesory. he says instead go in for teflon coating or a underbody stone guard.

I had a tough time deciding between a Red or a Black (which also meant additional wait time).

He is giving you all BS.

There is no A/C water issue overt the dashboard. The A/C water gets condensed where the air actually meets the cooling ducts and heat exchange takes place, from where the water is suitably taken out of the vehicle. Though I was not too impressed with the thing myself in the photograph!

Secondly, you do not need teflon coating or the Underside stone guard.
Teflon is a quick way to rip some money by the dealers and it is not really effective (read Team BHP reviews).

Underside stone guard, in my opinion you do not really need in Mumbai, unless you are planning to do some off roading, others can throw more light on this.

Have you faced any problems like vibrations from the engine from your car. ACI has an article where a customer complained of this problem and Honda India werent able to solve this.
Honda thailand were contacted and found out the engine mounts were faulty. This, honda claimed is a problem with a lot of their civics and they are trying to rectify it.
The mounts are very expensive and due to shortage they are having difficulty replacing for all the cars at one shot.

I have been waiting for 3 months after delivery of the car to get fog lamps and have been told by both dealers in Bangalore that they do not have supply of fog lamps. I wanted the LED ambient lights too but that is not available either. Am not sure what the state of supply is in Mumbai; so that could be a bit frustrating.

Other than that, you would enjoy the Civic. Its a wonderful car and great to drive.

I have been getting a distinct "clank" sound from the front right side. It comes when I go over a pothole. Not always, but is surely there.

I was thinking this was from the suspension till I read about this issue in ACI. Am going have it checked out during the second service.

I remember reading in one of the reviews (think it was from Malaysia) about a similar sound from the front right suspension.

Are other Civic owners experiencing this too.

That is the only drawback in out market given that the number of cars sold with Auto-boxes is very low.

Sticking with the above post for automatic transmissions itself would the paddle shift option be less reliable for the long term compared to the other automatics without paddleshift.

Thanks iraghava. Thats good news to know that its relatively trouble free. I guess i should wait a little longer to book the civic till all issues are resolved with the car.
After reading ACI with the engine mounting issues for which honda india needed help from thailand clearly shows that Honda india still dont have the expertise to handle a car like the civic.
There could be issues with the auto tranny later on so its best to wait.

Sorry... not posted for a long time.
My Civic AT was delivered in the third week of August & I got the silver garnish fitted on the dash. In fact mine was the very first car that Divine Honda fitted the garnish on. It is stuck with some adhesive...take my word for it - it looks just TERRIFIC. It gives a solid steel look to the dash and transforms the otherwise plasticky look of the dash. At Rs.12,000/- it is definitely expensive but worth it if you consider the looks of the dash.
My suggestion is - don't think, just go for it... if budget is not a problem.
