Driven: Jeep Grand Cherokee
(

Jeep India will be introducing the Trailhawk version of it's Grand Cherokee SUV next month, together with the launch of it's petrol-powered range.
The slightly more affordable Trailhawk version comes with a 3.6L V6 petrol engine, and is expected to be priced around 15 lakh rupees below the diesel Grand Cherokee currently on sale.

Quote:
Like its diesel sibling, the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk still uses the Jeep's Quadra-Drive II 4x4 system with rear ELSD as well as Selec-Speed Control with Hill Ascent Control. As part of the Trailhawk package, it gets unique skid plates and a special anti-glare hood decal. It also gets a removable lower front fascia that allows the SUV to increase its approach angle from 29.8 degrees to 36.1 degrees. The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk's breakover angle is 27.1 degrees and departure angle is 22.8 degrees. It also offers around 10.8 inches of ground clearance, which is higher than the diesel version thanks to suspension tweaks.
Additional exterior features include unique grille that made its debut in the Jeep 75th anniversary models, a pair of red tow hooks at the front and back. The Trailhawk gets standard 18-inch wheels. Jeep offers an option of special 20-inch ones that get unique Goodyear Adventure off-road rubber with Kevlar reinforcement. Exterior styling tweaks are completed with addition of special Trailhawk and Trail Rated badging.
On the inside, the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk has unique black interior with leather/suede seats, along with red contrast stitching. Additionally, it gets piano-black and gun-mental finish trim as well. The standard 8.4-inch infotainment system gets special off-road pages showing specific details like wheel articulation to name a few.

So the launch is nearby, they have imported 2 units by Air and if we exclude Air charges, Assessable value of Petrol would be in the same ballpark as Diesel. I don't see any major imports of Jeep after their launch, why do they even bother to launch such versions? Petrol engine on this is nothing great as it's severely let down by old Auto they use. In Indian conditions, we won't get more than 5-6 Kmpl. Unless Jeep has some excess RHD inventories which they can give to Jeep India at lower transfer rates this variant won't sell even in single digits. What a waste of resources, can't these guys take help of some enthusiasts before launching or even requests Mods at some forums like here to have an opinion poll based thread before the launch of new models?

Just out of interest, does anyone have clues on sales numbers for the Jeeps since the launch? Wonder if they have been able to move any inventory with their freakish pricing. The Polo GTI seems to have taken after the Jeeps too.
Little hopes Compass/Patriot or the Renegade then. Skoda Kodiaq...we shall wait and see what you bring next. (Haven't been a fan of VW SUVs though).
The Jeep showroom on Inner Ring Road. Almost open but not yet.
Saw the lovely silver grey Wrangler Unlimited Soft Top (Trail Rated 4x4) version through the Window and photographed it.
Lovely lovely Jeep. Makes me want one very badly indeed!
Wish it were priced honestly in this silly country of ours, the way it is, everywhere else in the world!
There'd be so many takers for an honest vehicle at an honest price!

More pics from the Jeep showroom Inner Ring Road.
Theyve got Jeep merchandise too including little Jeep radiator grille key chains and compasses etc!
They have a nice Jeep lounge too with larger accessories on display for sale.
On display there is a Black Wrangler Hardtop 4 door(91 lacs on Road!) , a Maroon Grand Cherokee V8 Hemi Engined beast of an SRT( 1 Cr plus on road) , a Grey normal Grand Cherokee Diesel and a Grey Wrangler soft top 2 door Diesel.
The petrol variants are likely it seems, to come in later this year and are likely to be about 15-18 lacs less expensive than the present range.
And sadly they arent yet officially open because the Jeep team needs to sign off all parameters inside before they launch.
Neither are they allowing test drives yet because they are yet to do their Temp Registrations.
There is that Grey Wrangler 2 door soft top which is destined as a TD Jeep but it ll be another 2 weeks yet before we can get our filthy paws on it!
Saying this, they were happy to sell me a 1:43 scale model Wrangler - the only one piece that they had. Licensed by Jeep - Made by Greenlight and costs 2700/-
They've also got a few Maisto 1:18 models at Rs 2000 each. But those you can buy anywhere.
They also have a lovely large screen TV showing lots of lovely jeeps doing the Moab Trail and Golden Spike etc in the US. Enthralling!

That's interesting. I think they should launch this as soon as possible. If by any way they can price this around 50-55 Lac, I am sure they can find double digit numbers. It has huge possibilities of personalisation.
Jeep Wrangler Petrol launched at INR 56 Lakh.

The petrol Wrangler is available in the five-door Unlimited body style, but in place of the 200hp 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel, it now gets a larger displacement 285hp 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 motor. Torque, on the other hand, is down from 460Nm to 353Nm. As on the diesel model, a five-speed automatic gearbox paired with an all-wheel-drive system does duty on the petrol Wrangler too.
The new pricing puts the Wrangler in line with mid-sized luxury SUVs such as the Mercedes GLC and Land Rover Discovery Sport, though the iconic American off-roader still lacks any direct rivals in its segment. The petrol model’s pricing also positions it well below its diesel sibling which is priced in the same region as the Mercedes GLE and BMW X5.
Jeep is also set to launch a petrol Grand Cherokee powered by the same 3.6-litre V6 but with an extra 10hp, paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Jeep has released the updated, post-GST price list of its India range. The Grand Cherokee diesel line-up sees the highest price-cuts followed by the high-performance SRT and Wrangler.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel in Limited trim is now priced at Rs 75.15 lakh as opposed to Rs 93.64 lakh earlier, which means it gets a reduction of a whopping Rs 18.49 lakh. The Grand Cherokee Summit diesel now costs Rs 85.15 lakh as opposed to Rs 1.03 crore, seeing a cut of Rs 17.95 lakh. The Grand Cherokee SRT sees a drop of Rs 5 lakh and the Wrangler Unlimited diesel is now cheaper by Rs 6.14 lakh. The Wrangler Unlimited petrol sees no change in pricing.

When an old Jeep meets its younger cousin!
The first Grand Cherokee I came across in Mumbai. Brought back memories of the drive. Amazing styling, but a price tag that's double of what it should be. Hope this guy got a fat discount:

I think Saif Ali Khan owns one in the same shade. Maybe high chances you clicked him.
Saw this Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT a couple of weeks ago.
Did not find a thread and thought this 6.4L Hemi V8 monster deserved to have one.
If there's any thread where this fits, mods may merge it.

Looks great!
Was this around Bandra/BKC?
Kevin Flynn, the Jeep India MD & President travels in a black Grand Cherokee - have seen him get out of one in the Capital building at BKC (where their corporate office is).
Saif Ali Khan owns a red Hemi Cherokee if I remember right. Making it two in Bombay.

If I'm not wrong, this is his car. I've driven the SRT GC of Mr. Flynn sometime last year, will fish out the pictures from back then to compare if it is the same car or not.

Yes he does. Although I believe it is a FCA car being used by Saif.
There is a white one in Chennai which is used regularly as well. Can be spotted near RA Puram. Not masking the number plate as the number is not clear in the photo
