While the Rover actually wades thru deep water, all the Jeep manages in the pic, is a schoolboy-ish "let's splash the puddle on Parsi uncle" prank! Which vehicle can't? They just couldn't relate! Pptmasters!

With the outrageous pricing, it will have to follow every adventure indeed! Selling the first one, for example, will be no short of an adventure! :Frustrati

Sometimes you feel, how can these PR people be so naive to not be able to read between the lines (or pictures here) so to say. Wow!

So was curious as to what the OTR prices (Mumbai) would be for the versions:

• Jeep Grand Cherokee - Limited - ~ 1.16Cr.
• Jeep Grand Cherokee - Summit - ~ 1.27Cr.
• Jeep Grand Cherokee - SRT - ~ 1.36Cr.
• Jeep Wrangler - Unlimited - ~ Rs. 86L

If someone is spending say 1.27Cr. for Summit version it makes sense to rather choose the SRT version. From what I have read, it's a beast on the road with proper launch control and stuff. Fun! :D

Didn't realize the difference between the SRT and Summit is so low!

SRT would come with ~475BHP and ~600NM torque IIRC!
0-100 in less than 5 seconds was mentioned in the webcast.
Almost a supercar in SUV shape.

That's a great piece of info. What is most interesting in the search result is the declared values of the vehicles which are Rs 21.85 lacs for the Wrangler Unlimited and Rs 30.27 lacs for the Grand Cherokee. What remains to be seen is how much FCA thinks it can milk Indian consumers! :D

There are some Cherokee (Diesel) which are imported at around Rs. 22L so with the import duty of 180% the total cost would come to be around ~ Rs. 62L. Now this makes me wonder, what could be the shipping cost of the vehicle from US to the Indian shores.

This could hold some key to the insane pricing strategy.

As far as I understand, this lot has been imported from Japan. India has a Free Trade Agreement with Japan. A single container load from Tokyo to Mumbai should not cost more than USD2000, all charges included.

On a different note, I feel the pricing of these offerings by Jeep hold little real world value. Especially when one compares the specifications with other marquees. Forgoing the meri-mehengi-gaadi factor, I do not see Jeep bringing much to the table even at 70 lakh OTR after drastic price cuts for the remaining stragglers. That is if they do decide to import some numbers.

The management honchos of Jeep were not smoking anything. They were injecting themselves with industrial quantities of some mind & reality altering concoction.

I just do not get it. Off roading is an activity which results in lots of dings and damages. Taking a hit on a 80L wrangler would possibly be more expensive to repair than what I paid for my used Grand Vitara.

Fiat must be crazy if they think people are going to plonk 1 crore on a Jeep when you can get Land Rover's Discovery Sport which has luxurious interiors, more space , much better snob value for just 65 Lakhs OTR.

With Jeep's pricing, they know that customers will now flock to JLR for their car's since they seem more VFM.

Great. So FCA does not really want to sell any cars in India. Ok hence proved. Now let's all go to sleep.

I mean seriously! Here we were discussing Grand Cherokee might be priced around 60, the Wangler around 35 but still find less takers and here comes FCA hitting all predictions like a massive six out of the stadium.

RIP Jeep brand in India and RIP Fiat.

How JEEP figured out the pricing.

Say landed cost of x vehicle was Rs. 65L.
Say they expect to sell 10 of these in the first Year. (Demo units that were imported)
Say they invested 10crs on the initial launch, service centres and showrooms)
They then loaded additional 50L on each of the 10+10 units they expected to sell.

Read somewhere that Jeep is also working on a SUV between 10-15L, to compete withe Brezza and Creta. In that case this might be just an exercise to try and build brand, any sales that might come is an added bonus.

Am sure FCI dealers will need more models from Jeep that people can actually buy to be in business. I just hope the new products are not another variant of Punto on sills.

well for me, Jeep Indian pricing helped in making decision, my Son wanted this badly in Canada but I was kind of undecided, finally went ahead with this wrangler today :) will post more details in relevant thread separately.

Nothing to add much on pricing , there is a big bundle of comments.
Hope FIAT management will know and act.

Its a 70k AUD car, roughly 35 lacs INR.

That translates to INR 2370691 for Cherokee! Am I missing something or is this right? Can't we just import one from UAE then any still have a better deal even after paying customs?
