re: Ownership Review | My Kia Seltos HTK+ 1.5L Diesel MT (Coyote) | EDIT: 4 years, 70,000 kms up!

Loving your trips and been following your thread from day 1 (I also picked up a Seltos diesel in Nov 2019),

One question not related to the car - how did you clean your Jopasu? I have the rejuvenator but I tried it once and the duster just didnt have any dust lifting efficiency after this.

I now replace my dusters every 6 months and would love to use the same one if I can for at least a year.

Here's the thread for you:

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/diy-d...ar-duster.html (DIY: Cleaning & rejuvenating the Jopasu Car Duster)

I followed this thread to rejuvenate my duster and must say it is back to 80% efficiency after my cleaning. Hopefully next time, I can do a little more justice to my cleaning to restore it to the factory level.

re: Ownership Review | My Kia Seltos HTK+ 1.5L Diesel MT (Coyote) | EDIT: 4 years, 70,000 kms up!

For the first year anniversary, I gave Coyote a nice wash.

We were out till evening and more dust accumulated. Made a mental note to dust him before parking for the day to save all my efforts. And then while returning, Bangalore weather played its role - slight drizzle to attach those dust nicely to the body.

If you wash your car and drive out, it will defintely rain thats just old murphy and his sense of humor.

How good is the 3M liquid wax that you use on the car? how frequently do you use it? Asking as my I am almost out of Optimum Opti seal that i have been using for the last few years and given the current cost of the same, I dont think its worth that much. Looking for a spray on wax/nano sealant that I can use post car wash.

I have read about old Murphy and his affection towards Bangaloreans. And now, I have been receiving his blessings too.

Considering its cost, the 3M liquid wax is a very good value for money product. Each coat lasts for good 6-8 weeks (including few trips in the rain). And due its hydrophobic effect, washing the car is an easier job. I am running out of my bottle and was thinking of giving the Turtle Liquid Wax a try this time. It seems to be another VFM product with good reviews.

Congratulations on completing one year with Coyote !!
Whats better way to celebrate than give it a nice shiny look on its anniversary day ! Wishing you many more years of happy ownership with this car !

Looking at the way you make weekend trips so effortlessly and consistently, my wishlist is just growing !

Thanks for this suggestion! hadnt come across this before. I have been using Sonax High Speed Wax which is getting over shortly. I could consider this as well for my next purchase. Mine is also Steel Silver, which I think is one of the easier shades to maintain in Seltos lineup. Only the owners can notice it getting dirty, otherwise it looks pretty clean most of the time from a distance.

btw, what are you using to wash the car ?

Thank you!

I owe you for the suggestion regarding the side plastic trims! Recently got the Turtle Trim Restorer and it is doing a good job.

Aren't we all enjoying the same luck?

So true. The color manages to hide the dirt very easily and hence, I can go upto 2-3 weeks between each cleaning session.
BTW, I placed the order for the Turtle wax today. But my next cleaning session is still 3-5 weeks away. Will share the results but I am sure it will be a decent bet.

That's my modest arsenal, enough for a lazy beginner like me.

Proklear Waterless wash is my go to routine most of the times. If the car is too soiled then a visit to the nearby water wash guy.

If it is manageable and I have the inclination (usually once in 2-3 months) then a water wash with 3M shampoo at home followed by a wipe with PW spray to avoid water stains and then finally some 3M polishing.

15000 kms up!

Coyote ran past the 15k mark last weekend. It is business as usual apart from, as Sidney Seldon would call it, 'a hole in the head'.

Last weekend, we made a trip to Gokarna. Left on early morning on Saturday and returned late night on Monday.

Day 1:

Started at 7:30AM from Bellandur and took the route Davangere - Bankapur - Mundgod - Yellapur - Ankola. I was aware of the road work going on beyond Chitradurga but we wanted to try that route and also visit Magod falls near Yellapur. With the expectation set, we weren't disappointed with the road conditions. Especially due to the 6 lane roads available for most part of the journey, the route is fast (i.e. once you cross the mad traffic till Tumkur!)
Ownership Review | My Kia Seltos HTK+ 1.5L Diesel MT (Coyote) | EDIT: 4 years, 70,000 kms up!-pxl_20201114_051005413.jpg

Reach Apoorva resorts on the outskirts of Davangere by 11:30AM with a plan to have some early lunch. Alas, the restaurant confirmed they don't serve lunch items before 12:45PM. Had some tasty dosa and coffee before moving on. As such, a very well maintained property with good food and ample space for parking a few dozen cars.

Another impromptu stop was Sannavali dam as the waterbody shone like a gem on a rather hot sunny day.

Moved on and reached Magod falls by 3:35PM. Approach road to the waterfall is good for most part of the route and any car can make it to the view point if you are slightly careful while driving. The flow in the waterfall has come down as the rains have ceased. A good view nonetheless.

I had applied the Turtle trim restorer on the black plastic trims 2 weeks before this trip. And yet, the trims remain a dust magnet!

After breakfast, we went to Murudeshwara temple which is a 1.5 hr drive from the resort. Again the coastal road is in great shape and a joy to drive. Equally dangerous are the the numerous and unscientific diversions due to ongoing road expansion work. Since the temple remains closed between 1PM-3PM, we managed to complete the visit before the closure.

For lunch, we looked up reviews and chose White Elephant restaurant near Kudle beach. We were expecting a proper resort but found more of a shack in its place. Looks can be deceptive and indeed, we got to enjoy some awesome Goan dishes and that too, at very reasonable prices!

It was a very hot sunny day with temperatures around 36 deg and the humidity was not helping. With our tummies full, we decided to head back to the resort to enjoy the sunset. Special mention of the Honey beach right below the resort which is impeccably maintained and a great place to relax.

The road to the resort passes through a couple of small villages and agriculture fields. You will spot many peacocks, peahen and langurs loitering around in these fields without care.

Day 3

Last day, we started leisurely at 10:30AM after breakfast and went to Om beach (it was a mistake as we could have covered it on the previous day itself by taking a small detour after our lunch).

Here, I managed to put a nice hole (in the head!) in the front bumper after misjudging while parking Coyote. Hit a stone slab with jutting iron rods at barely crawling speeds and even that managed to pierce the bumper.

Return was via Honnavar - Sagar - Jog falls (stopped at both the view points) - Shivamogga - Tarikere - Hosadurga - Hiriyur - Sira - Bangalore. You will find a lot of ghat roads in this stretch till you cross Jog falls. Roads beyond Shimoga till Tarikere is also not in the best shape.

We had packed our lunch from the resort and had it near Jog falls. Packed tea was consumed near Tarikere. And finally a dinner break at Coastal Dine near Tumkur (very good food if you like sea food!).

No trip is complete without the blessing of Rain Gods. While we were sweating through the first two days, we were blessed with rains once we crossed Shimoga on the last day.

Ownership Review | My Kia Seltos HTK+ 1.5L Diesel MT (Coyote) | EDIT: 4 years, 70,000 kms up!-pxl_20201116_122819083.jpg

All in all, it was a 1400 km trip and Coyote took around 95 litres of diesel. FE of 14.8 kmpl. Good speeds, ghat roads, village roads, full time AC and lot of idling wherever we stopped.

Odo stands at 15395 kms. Coyote needs a full wash before the next 1500 km trip coming up shortly. I haven't decided yet on whether to replace the front bumper, will take a call during the next service at 17k kms.

Always had a plan to visit west Karnataka, but didn't materialize. Can I do this trip in a sedan (Honda City) with 4 adults and 2 kids along with luggage?

The road, for most parts, is very good. For the patches under construction/diversion and those random potholes, you need to slow down and be careful around those stretches. And yes, Honda City will be able to sail through it without any issue once you are mindful of the the above.

Loved your travelogue, honestly a bit jealous
Have been locked up for some time now and your pictures bring in a breath of fresh air (proverbial) to the long lost travel bug. Will add this loop to our ToDo list for some day when things are again Normal and Gokarna is among a few pending itineraries on my list.

My native is Sirsi and Honnavar and we go there 10 times a year in a Verna. A Honda City can make the trip easily. Don’t worry, go ahead. Have a safe trip

Beautiful pictures and the travelogue is tempting me to go and explore Karnataka beyond Bangalore and Mysore.
It's hardly 6 hrs to Bangalore from my place and untill now, the desire to see places was limited to Mysore.

Beaches are really clean and beautiful.

Thank you! The FE also depends on the road conditions and ghats and village roads won't do justice. That said, I drive with heavy foot as I like to accelerate fast to a steady speed. On the other hand, my brother who was the co-driver on our trips, likes to accelerate steadily but maintain good speeds.

Leisure Saturday means I washed Coyote, cleaned the floor mats and tried the new Turtle Hard shell wax. Must say, it is much easier to apply than the 3M liquid wax I had been using so far. After applying, unlike the 3M one the Turtle wax doesn't harden up and is very easy to wipe off. Longevity remains to be seen.

Also added the LCLC sticker, just like the RoadRunner sports! Hopefully the next update will be for the beloved RoadRunner!

PS: I loved the black LTD sticker more (resonates with the motto) but I applied it on the black plastic portion of the bumper and it didn't stick well, probably because of the rough surface. One pressure wash and it flew off!
