Excellent information here. I am also all in favour of getting your own filters, pads and serviceable items and having it all done/replaced at a trusted FNG where you can also participate in the service/repair and only pay for labour. It's been all service so far for me (touch wood!). ZF also has a plant in Peenya, Bangalore. Did they ship the fluid and pan to you or did you have to pick it up?

Contacted quite a few shops in Bangalore none had ZF oem pan available, hence had to source it from Delhi.
The ZF transmission fluid is readily available at almost all shops in Bangalore hence i picked it up from jc road.
