I could very well relate to the dream of owning a Civic. It's been my dream car for ages and I even browsed for some good 2nd hand deals on the Civic but my budget didn't allow me still. But this City, especially with that bold front look, makes up for it.
The immediate difference on changing the tyres was the improved NVH. Not sure if it's better than stock, however the Michelin's are grippy and confidence inspiring.

I assume you own a 5th Gen City and further assuming that you've been owning it since a fairly long period, can you let me know if there is anything to watch out for in the initial ownership period from your experience?

The Civic story in India has been unimpressive. I will wait for a relaunch of Civic that appeals to the heart as well as the mind.

Cheers!!

Our Jazz came with Michelin tires factory fitted and they seem to be lasting forever and maybe, as you said, providing better NVH levels.

Yeah I do but my City is younger than yours and just got its first service done last week. All my experiences till now are in my initial review.

Hi

Did you note any drop in milage due to the tyre change?

None whatsoever, it still delivers the same fuel efficiency as it did on oem tyres.

Re: Our Red Starsky | 5th-gen Honda City CVT Review

So we took Starsky on a few long drives. One weekend to Sangli and next weekend to Panchgani. The drive on both occasions was smooth. Mileage on the Sangli return trip was a respectable 17 KMPL however on the Panchgani return trip it was a dreadful 12 KMPL The reason...

Our Red Starsky | 5th-gen Honda City CVT Review-img_9276.jpeg

We were stuck in a 11 KMs long traffic jam for a duration of 1 hrs and 45 minutes The entire stretch of NH 48 just a couple of KMs after the new Katraj tunnel till Chandani Chowk was choked with traffic in the evening. I was traveling with 4 adults and a kid on-board. Starsky made us feel right at home even in such miserable situation. The spacious cabin and opened shade of the sun-roof ensured there was no claustrophobic feeling.

En-route to Panchgani, we stopped at The Forest Veg Treat for breakfast. The dosa's and uttapa's were delicious and the place itself had a very good feel to it. We have decided to make it our pit-stop on all future trips.

A trip to Panchgani is incomplete without a visit to its famed table top. The views from there are really mesmerizing. We stayed at The Grand Victoria Resort for a night. The views from resort were breathtaking and all meals were lip smacking however the service/hospitality itself was a complete letdown

On our way back, we visited Dhom Dam and experienced awe inspiring scenic views. Nature is the best landscape artist...

Starsky can take the ghats very well with a slightly spirited driving. The comfortable and economical ride gels well with the family, once again reaffirming the motto "I really don't need a reason to take it out for a spin"

A parting shot of Starsky at Harrison's Folly plateau

Meter auto-reset options added to Honda City's MID settings

Starsky was in for second free service @ 3454KMs in the last week. It was a routine checkup and costed nothing except the time to navigate through the Wagholi traffic back-and-forth.

A couple of days back, I was parked outside a shop while my wife was busy shopping and to kill time I started flipping through the settings menu. I found one new addition to the menu that really warmed me up...

You see, one of the original dis-likes that I had with Honda City was its inability to automatically reset the trip meter to 0.

Lo and behold! The new Meter Setup menu

Our Red Starsky | 5th-gen Honda City CVT Review-img_9373.jpg

It has two sub-menu's,

One for Trip A

Our Red Starsky | 5th-gen Honda City CVT Review-img_9374.jpeg

and another for Trip B

Our Red Starsky | 5th-gen Honda City CVT Review-img_9375.jpeg

For each of the trips, we can select the meter to be reset either,

When the Ignition is Turned Off

Our Red Starsky | 5th-gen Honda City CVT Review-img_9376.jpeg

OR, When Fully Refueled

Our Red Starsky | 5th-gen Honda City CVT Review-img_9377.jpg

OR, Manually

Our Red Starsky | 5th-gen Honda City CVT Review-img_9378.jpg

I have been using these reset options and they work as advertised. I've set the Trip A to reset When the Ignition is Turned Off and Trip B to reset When Fully Refueled.

A small update like this makes one feel that the company is listening to feedback from the customers. I am not sure what are the grand plans of Honda in India, however they have won a lot of trust over the years and any well thought initiative by them will definitely help them win back the market share.

Any idea how to do this in V variant which does not have a digital speedometer? I used to own a polo too and want the trip to reset after turning off ignition.

I have not driven a V variant and hence cannot comment. Probably fiddle around with the menu options and you might find one that accomplishes the ask.

Re: Our Red Starsky | 5th-gen Honda City CVT Review

Hi,

I am facing weird issue with my city mileage. (Petrol CVT ZX, 5th Gen, KMs Done 5000+).
When I drive it on highways, mileage is amazing 20+ KMPL @ 90-100 KMPH.

But in Bangalore ORR bumper to bumper traffic, it reduces drastically all the way down to 6-7 kmpl. During this time my average distance coverage has been 9-10 KMPH. I am light footed driver and take care not to revv the CVT as far as possible. I have tried Tank to Tank calculations and mileage is more or less same.

For the speed and distance coverage on city drives do you think this is pretty normal or is something wrong with my car. And if something is wrong how come Highway mileage is still good? I have visited service center twice and they said there is nothing wrong with car.

Any suggestion or your feedback is much appreciated and probably will calm my nervous mind.

Thanks

Hi, Even I am facing the same issue with my 5th Gen City VX CVT, I am hardly getting 9-10 kmpl in Delhi city traffic (daily commute of 50-60 kms, AC on always, mild to heavy traffic conditions). While I was expecting much higher FE from City, it seems the 5th Gen is not as fuel efficient as the earlier generations... could the new BSVI compliant engine be the culprit?

Cheers

An anecdote. I resumed commuting to office sometime during April-May timeframe. Peak summer in Pune and AC running continuously. During those months there were very few organizations expecting people to be in office resulting in low to mild traffic conditions. My to-and-fro commute totaling up to 56 KMs used to deliver a mileage in the range of 13-16 KMpL. Gradually, as the months passed by the monsoon set in and many more organizations started expecting people to be in office. With AC running without much effort (generally cool & pleasant monsoon atmosphere) the same commute of 56 KMs would deliver a mileage of less than 10 KMpL consistently. The only difference was the traffic Since mid-June/July onwards the traffic has grown by leaps and bounds. Add to it the woes of flooded, pot-holed roads due to the heavy downpours makes the entire stretch of bumper-to-bumper journey nightmarish.

Once I was stuck in severe traffic; as in stuck for 30-35 mins at the same spot. I glanced at real-time trip mileage after a few minutes of being stuck and it was in 12-13 KMpL range. By the time I finally got free from the traffic, the real-time trip mileage was showing me 8 KMpL.

Based on what you both mentioned and coupled with the fact that petrol engines are generally gas guzzlers in bumper-to-bumper traffic conditions, I believe your mileage is as per expectations.

With regards to the new gen v/s old gen fuel efficiency or how much toll the BSVI compliance exerts is something that other experts on the forum can comment on.

Take the car on an open highway during early hours of the day for a long ride and check the fuel efficiency. I found driving between 80-100 KMpH for extended periods of time delivers mind blowing FE figures.

Happy driving!!
