Altroz replacement so soon ?? She still has good years of service left in her. The 1.5 is a treat to drive and still so frugal. Would miss the car if it goes, can't wait to see what comes next.

I've also joined the tata motors brand, picked up a Tiago ev

Wishing you safe and happy miles with the Punch

And that's quite a neat and detailed review. Although my car is a little more than 4 months old, it's a nice coincidence that my ownership review (Ownership Review: Our 2023 Tropical Mist Tata Punch) and yours have gone live on the forum within a gap of two days. I also find it interesting and nice that our opinions concur on quite a few aspects/traits of the car.

Thank you Cliff!

My altroz diesel is just 2 years and 2 months old, with 60k km on odo. The last few months have been very inactive wrt altroz. I usually drive anywhere between 2500 to 3000 km in altroz every month.

Since November 2023, the Usage have gone down owomg to my lower back injury, which I have recovered 90% as of now, and then purchase of Punch.

Altroz was driven just 900 km in December & January 2024. I have also started to get chauffer driven. So my primary ride will be used only 2 days a week and will be idle the rest of the week. It got me thinking, why not buy a new petrol sedan, now that my usage is shared between Punch, Storme as wel as my primary? I love how virtus looks and the comfort it offers. I have been doing tesdrives of Virtus and Slavia. I somehow don't get that solid feel I get from altroz diesel. The build as well as interiors. My altroz has 0 rattles even at 60,000 km. The test drive virtus had dashboard rattles, when the odo was barely 14000 km. Altroz has better driving dynamics too. Virtus/Slavia have a softer suspension which aid in ride comfort but takes away handling. I wish VAG 2.0 sedans were as solid and handled as good as the Rapids/Ventos. I am not saying they are unsafe. They are 5 star rated, safe cars. But the tangible aspects of the build, that VAG 1.0 cars had, is lacking in 2.0 cars.

I love the altroz , and appreciate it now even more having test driven these 17 lakhs 1.0 turbo petrol sedans. 2 compromises in altroz diesel are the NVH of diesel engine and ride quality over bad roads. The c2 sedans excel there.
Somehow, they haven't yet convinced/impressed me to write a cheque. I am also doing a test drive of Verna soon. But as of now, I don't think there is another new car that fulfills my needs as much as the altroz in the <17 lakh budget. I might convince myself and get one. If I do, I will let you all know.

I am not ready to get to the 18+ lakh range for the 1.5 turbo petrols as my right foot sometimes doesn't heed to me 1.0 liter turbo petrols might return 14 kmpl for my driving. 1.5 won't even return double digits.

Hi Emvi, thank you & Congratulations!

Loved reading your thread. The tropical mist was my 2nd choice. I would have picked it if I hadnt owned a Sumo Grande in similar shade in the past.

Punch is such a nice car, except for the lack of performance and mediocre fuel efficiency. I love how well it rides and drives.

I too own Adventure Rhythm with same color but don't find it. Start stop feature in a way helps in unnecessary running of engine at long stops when lights r on red...

I bought AMT just to avoid keeping the foot on clutch pedal all the time in the traffic, happy with this option but not with the way it responds to switch gears smoothly....
Have to live with this.

Ignore my query as I got my response by reading ur article again.

re: 2024 Tata Punch 1.2L BS6.2 MT | Ownership Review | 1-Year Update

3000 km Update

I have not updated the thread since February. Punch is still being used solely by me. It is being used sparingly as I have been using my storme predominantly (with chauffer) and altroz.

Odo : 3333 km

3000 km milestone

I use the Punch for the city runs & gym rides. It is being used only 2 days a week, averaging just about 600 km a month.

The remaining 5 days of the week, it's a sitting duck in my garage. I don't have to worry about rats though, as I have the best rat repellant 24x7 in my home.

I am totally satisfied with the Punch for the comfort and ease of driving it offers. It has become my first choice of I have to drive over bad rural roads or into city. My celerio is even more compact but has lifeless steering and an inferior suspension setup. Punch is much nicer to drive. The orange is also a beautiful shade that stands out.

The 2 tertiary cars of mine, one unsafe but fuel efficient, the other solid, safe, nice to drive but not fuel efficient. Both slow. Lol.

The only area(ofcourse excluding the lacklustre performance) where I find Punch not satisfactory, is the Fuel efficiency area. It returns 14 kmpl overall. 50:50 highway:city with 100% AC.

In comparison, the Celerio returns almost 6kmpl more in same usage conditions.

The heft of the Punch and the weak 1.2L N/A makes the Punch even more expensive than my Storme V400 per km.

With the once primary ride, but now secondary- Altroz 1.5 diesel. The most fav of my rides (along with storme though), as well as the best handling, fastest and most fuel efficient.

With the primary ride, the comfortable, rugged and fast Storme Varicor 400. It may not be as fast as the altroz diesel in the top whack, but it is fast for a 2+ tonne SUV to do 0 to 100 kmph in 12.xx seconds and to keep doing upper triple digit speeds on the highway all day with full load effortlessly.

Tata Punch landed on 1st spot in best selling cars for 2 months consecutively now. A random hotel parking where the top selling 2 models are seen together

Irritants :

* The rear parcel tray does rattle over painted rumble strips

* The ICE hangs up occasionally. Only FM would work. DriveNext and Bluetooth won't connect. I haven't had such incidents in altroz even once.

Indeed, very few cars look equally stunning alongside a Dark Safari

re: 2024 Tata Punch 1.2L BS6.2 MT | Ownership Review | 1-Year Update

One year with Punch MT

Punch has completed 1 year in my garage earlier this month.

Odo: 7750 km

Issues to report - None

Ofcourse, the car saw even lesser running than the estimated 10,000 km per year usage.

2nd free service and 3rd free service were completed in June and December 2024 respectively.

2nd free service was just a routine check up. 3rd free service was the annual service that included oil replacement and filter replacement.

Service history so far

Second free service -

Third free service -

Car is being used by dad(mostly driven by drivers).

Fuel efficiency is a little below average for a small car with a 1.2 NA engine, given that the car is predominantly driven on highways.

Overall Fuel efficiency of the first year of ownership - 14.3 kmpl

Despite that, We are thoroughly happy with the Punch.

December 2024 saw the highest running for punch as I had sold my Celerio 1.0.

With the latest addition of the garage - Harrier AT. Harrier has completed 5000 km in 2 months

Another 5 star addition to the garage, - the New Dzire 1.2 MT which replaces my Celerio 1.0. Delivery mostly tomorrow

Celerio, though boring and at times even soulless, did a good job of a beater car for 3 years and 25000 km. I didn't even bother to put up and ownership thread for it.

With the arrival of Harrier AT and regular duties of Storme Varicor 400, the usage of my daily driver Altroz has come down to 15000 km a year. With the arrival of Dzire, Punch will be driven even lesser.

Next update will be after 10,000 km
