The only defense I will put up is for the powertrain. It lacks that excitement compared to Suzuki engines, but all of that can be attributed to the overall weight. The engine makes higher power, but it also has to lug around 100-200 kilos extra over the competition. This translates to lower apparent performance and Tata's conservative tune for fuel economy further impacts the perception. For my family the Tiago has been a fantastic vehicle for over 6 years now. So much so that my father has zero plans to sell it (He usually thinks of upgrading every 5-6 years). I hope Tata can give you confidence in the future to invest in one of thier cars again ![]()

Secondly there’s something called “Best Practices” Why would the cars keep coming with issues some one had a month, 3 months or 6 months ago? Is there no method of documenting the issue? Is there no RCA? And yes the attitude of sales people. They expect to be a big brand with third class attitude? No,I can’t accept anything but swift and cordial behaviour. They need not oversell but there’s minimum correctness in professional behaviour. Tatas particularly must hire someone and grind their sales team into correcting it.

As for Best Practices, I don't like the fact that the issues are not fixed in time but it is the reality. It is also more than likely that the number of problem cars vs thier sales figures must be within thier acceptable margins. Remember that social media blows everything out of proportion. Lets say 1 person has a genuine issue with thier gearbox. But the social media post shows 10-15 people reporting the same or some other issue, most whom are bots and others are haters. Lets say the final count is 5. But this is a guess. There is no way to quantify the number from there. Example - If a company sells 1 lakh products a year, thier error margin is between 1-3% i.e. upto 3000 units. Nexon sells 12,000 units a month. Thats 1,44,000 per year. Which means Tata expects upto 4500 cars to have certain minor and major defects. Lets say QC catches 90% of these cars before they head out. That still leaves 450 cars that are delivered to customers. Quote:

| Re: My Tata Nexon Fearless+ DCA Review | Bringing home Ellie Congratulations on your new purchase and wishing you millions of happy miles and millions of smiles per mile in it! Purple is a wonderful colour, the colour of royalty and your car will surely stand out in the crowd. And what a nice way to reach the color - mixing red and blue of your two first vehicles! As someone still looking for a car, your posts make wonderful reading. More so since even I am over 6 feet and of a 'healthy' build! The only issue I had with the Nexon during my 2 TDs was my head hitting the door sill when entering and exiting due to the sloped/coupe like design. Has that been an issue with you and more so with any elderly people getting into the back seats? Also, any issue with the 'left knee hitting the console' that I've read in a lot of Tata reviews. I personally didn't really face it but then I took very small TDs. The suspension is on the primary reasons I keep circling around Tata - like you mentioned the roads in and around Mumbai require an SUV with high GC! That said the gear-lever issue and the QC bits have become so ubiquitous with a Tata car, I feel it's the 'new normal'. Completely agree with you on giving Tata and Mahindra time space to improve. Just the 6-airbags in all variants that Tata has done has made me cheer them so often. Do keep updating the thread as you spend more time with Ellie! |

As for the knee, I rest it on the center console. Because there are no edges there, it's okay to rest your knee but it does get uncomfortable after 2-3 hours since it is hard plastic.

| Re: My Tata Nexon Fearless+ DCA Review | Bringing home Ellie 2000km update ! First service is done A couple of round trips home meant I crossed the 2000km mark in quick fashion. So it was time for the first service and experiencing the famed Tata service for myself. Aside from the unbelievably long wait for the service (including evaluation, job card preparation, and the actual service), it was fine. Workshop turnover was at a good pace and the overall workmanship and hygiene were good. I went on a Wednesday to avoid a rush but it seems like many others had the same idea. The total cost was Rs.350 which was entirely consumables but weirdly named, "Service Pro Plus Consumables". I didn't know Tata provided 'Pro' service but I guess I was wrong ![]() The software got a minor bump from R12.44 to R12.48. The SA mentioned stability fixes overall but the only fix I have seen working is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay now staying connected without random disconnections. Both the 360 camera and turn indications have random malfunctions. The cameras on the mirrors are the most prone to stutters or blackouts. The turn signals flash twice as fast after a wash or dust storm, but return to usual after the car is either sat for a while or if I use the hazard function. Overall the experience has been great with the car. Handling, features, comfort and ruggedness have me impressed. The only downside is the fuel economy. Since most of my driving is within city limits for now, the maximum I have been able to extract is 10.8kmpl. Overall efficiency over 2300kms stands at 10.3kmpl, a tad low for my liking. But then again, I elected to buy a turbo petrol with a DCT so I guess I have to swallow this for now. |

| Re: My Tata Nexon Fearless+ DCA Review | Bringing home Ellie 5000km update - Second Service done and dusted Six months have passed since I brought Ellie home, and over 5000 km have been driven, 5135km to be exact. Boy, it has been fun driving this all this time. Most of my colleagues absolutely love the car, and everyone's face after switching on the ventilated seats is second to none. Overall FE stands at roughly 11kmpl, although I have stopped keeping track since about a month back. A full tank usually lasts around 400-450 km depending on the traffic and length of commute, so calculating the exact average is not worth the effort. Aside from that no major issues but plenty of small niggles and some weird experiences. Odometer as of now ![]() Niggles and Surprises I had a long trip planned to my home and relatives so this was a true test of the car in the rain. Mechanically nothing happened at all, but software/electricals was another story. While returning from the trip, the ORVM Autofold stopped working. No idea why, tried manual fold too but no luck there. Came back from my lunch break and voila, manual plus autofold started working. I think it was moisture related since the mirror assembly is a moving component and the weather sealing could have a tiny hole somewhere that is not easily visible. Coming to the fun stuff now. One fine afternoon I was out for some work and had parked the car below a tree in the rain. Nothing out of the ordinary happened. Came back, started the car and the parking sensors beeped, but with a different sound. Now it so happened that I had been a passenger in a colleague's 2021 Nexon and immediately made the connection. And when the display booted seconds later, my suspicion was confirmed. Somehow my car had loaded the old software with only the backup camera and nothing else. ![]() Aside from this I got Transmission Warnings a couple times when I used Hill Hold quite frequently and was shifting to Neutral often in traffic. I had encountered a similar clutch warning on our Tiago AMT previously, so at least the behaviour tracks. Second Free Service - The Tata Experience Given the fact that my first service was pretty smooth, I expected the same affair this time around. Boy was I wrong. Since the car had just been back from a trip, it was filthy. The SA probably had a moment of joy seeing this, since he was very insistent on AC Cleaning, Brake Cleaning, and Deep Wash for the car. Some of the places I visited were dusty so I opted for the AC Cleaning but nothing else. When the technician started to work on the car, he was quite fiddly about parking the vehicle. I did not pay much attention to that. Soon the SA called me in the garage, and promptly said I needed to replace the wiper blades. Naturally, I was surprised and asked to show the issue. To my horror, the passenger side blade had become loose and was slipping off the arm. I never had this problem come up, so was naturally unhappy about it. The retaining part of the arm looked bent so I asked to try and bend it back with a plier and the wiper fit into place. Coincidence, I think not!!. Did not say anything then, since my car was still in their hands but I had a feeling my third service would have to be done somewhere else. Then came my own blunder. Usually I disconnect Android Auto before handing over the car anywhere like valets and ASCs. This time I did not. The car software was getting updated. I am restless person so I started to wander around the service lot. Saw my car standing and locked, which is unusual so went to check up on it, completely oblivious to the fact that a software update was ongoing. My phone connected and I was quite surprised to see the screen on, but the car locked. Called the tech, and asked him to check. This fellow never mentioned once that he was updating the software. And curious me opened the driver door, which shut down the infotainment ![]() Karma coming back Post the service, we had a work trip to Lonavla. I offered to drive and wanted to take the car to Lonavla anyway that weekend. We were running a little late and there was rain forecast. Which we encountered on the expressway and the wipers kicked into action. Now there was an incident at my 2nd service where the SA asked me to change the wiper blades and I suspected foul play so did not do it. Well karma wanted to say hello, so midway during a sweep, the passenger blade broke off the arm and flew off. It was an immediate facepalm moment and I quickly turned off the wipers and pulled over. Thankfully my windshield was spared and I had a small microfiber cloth with me so used it as a makeshift windshield protector from the wiper arm and made it to Lonavla. Immediately went to a garage and had new blades put in. Also ordered a replacement set online as a spare. Lesson #2 learned. Boot space test I am in the process of shifting homes, so it was about time I tested the boot space of the car. I had a complete random set of items so it actually turned out to be pretty good test and I now know what needs to be done. Boot space almost filled ![]() As you can see, I managed to fit in a large suitcase, two refrigerator/washing machine stands, one disassembled bookshelf, car cover, bike cover and car vacuum. Still some space left for knick knacks although it is pretty hard to reach and use. Atleast this means all my bags will fit and the seats can take the rest easily. I plan to do it in batches so not going for the title of 'Most loaded Nexon in India'. Verdict It definitely has not been the smoothest experience with Ellie, but nothing has been bad to the point where I regret buying this car. Unfortunately, the perfect car in this segment does not exist, so Ellie fits my needs better than any other car and that is good enough for now. And maybe for the future as well. All I can say is that I have had a hoot with this beauty and wish for many more years of hooting (I hope that conveys my feelings without being too vulgar). Tiger Point Lonavla ![]() |

| Re: My Tata Nexon Fearless+ DCA Review | Bringing home Ellie Phew !! It’s now been a whole year since I took delivery of my Purple beast. The odometer reading stands at a massive 13447km, having covered 8695km since the last service. 3rd service was completed as well, costing a cool Rs. 7237. Took a 1 year AMC also as the indicated cost was around Rs. 9500 without it. Odometer and Trip 1 (Reset after 2nd service) ![]() Service Bill 1 ![]() Service Bill 2 ![]() Service Bill 3 ![]() AMC Receipt ![]() One of the more enjoyable aspects has been the fuel economy. Overall number stands at 13.1kmpl as seen above from the car, the actual number hovering somewhere around 12kmpl. Not great but more importantly not terrible. This next year should be better with the oil change service and the car has become noticeably smoother. A couple of major trips were undertaken, which contributed to the high mileage of the last 6 months, detailed below. Trips 1. Pune – Baroda – Pune This was the longest trip I have done yet. Covered upwards of 2500km within 10 days (18th Dec – 28th Dec). First leg was from Pune to Palghar, my home. Overnight stay and immediate next day drive from there to Baroda. Encountered absolutely horrendous traffic up to Charoti Toll (Dahanu), from then onwards it was fine. Had a couple days to relax (and WFH). Image of route in Google Maps ![]() Then had to attend a friend’s wedding in Dahanu, so came back from Baroda. Attended the marriage next day and drove back to Baroda. Was definitely hectic. But managed to eke out 18kmpl (MID showed 20kmpl) from the car. My DTE was briefly at 795km ![]() Ridiculous DTE number (Sorry for the blur) ![]() Took it for a long overdue wash the next day. Had a nice break for 3 days. Year end holiday ritual meant no work. Visited Pavagadh in that time, what a location and amazing roads to get there. Family also approved of the car. They are still amused that the interiors match the exterior colour. Pavagadh photos Such a serene place! ![]() View going up ![]() A nearby resort ![]() Returned home to Palghar after the 3 days. Had another overnight stay and drove back to Pune the next day. Office beckons even the avid traveller. Spending so much time driving really brought me in tune with the car. From this trip onwards, I was completely at ease with the car and drove even more gently. A true bonding experience. Return FE number ![]() 2. Pune – Goa – Pune It was somewhat of a hasty plan and ended up being a solo trip. I completed the 3rd service as well before this since it was going to be a long trip with ghat roads aplenty. This was the best drive I have had in a long time, bike and car combined. Drove about 1100km in 4 days (13th March – 16th March) Google Map route (To Goa/From Goa) ![]() ![]() Followed the same route both ways since I was by myself and didn’t want to experiment. What a set of roads. Absolute chef’s kiss. Whoever planned those, please assume responsibility for the entirety of India. The route from Karad to Oni via Anuskura Ghat was magical. It had every possible variation of road and I definitely used every available driving mode (incl. Manual via Paddle Shifters). Took me 9.5 hours each way, which I think is pretty good for the distance and roads taken. Spent 1 day each to cover North and South Goa, and again, spectacular road infrastructure. Hats off to Goa transport department. Encountered plenty of squids, it was the worst mix of KA, MH (Pune) and GA cabbies. Everyone comes to relax in Goa except these folks it seems. Thankfully no incidents and I can’t wait to go back with some company and preferably on a bike. Definitely going to IBW this year now that I know the route. Goa Photos Cool Wind Turbine, Hot Summer ![]() Anuskura Ghat ![]() Pretty good FE!! ![]() Hotshot Car meets Old Palace ![]() Perfect spot to dive in ! ![]() Sea lookout much? ![]() Fun by the beach ![]() An actual beach ![]() Best view at Baga beach ![]() Looking up at the ghats ![]() Matched my FE while reaching an hour faster! ![]() 1 Year Verdict (Bold) The Goa trip firmly asserted in my mind why the Nexon is so popular. Even after 9+ hours of drive, I did not feel any discomfort. In fact, both days I did some other physical activity immediately after reaching my destination. I even drove to Pimpri the same day I returned from Goa. That drive drained me more than the Goa – Pune one. I was honestly wary of long drives since I am 6ft 2in tall and 110kg healthy and Nexon isn’t renowned for having the widest or most supportive seats. But boy was I proven wrong. 6 months ago, I had my share of doubts. “Was this the best choice I could have made with my budget?”, “Should have bought the Creta” and the most intrusive of them all, “The Punch would’ve been a better value deal”. Are there some quirks to this car? Yes. But do I have any doubts? Absolutely NOT. I adore this car, even more so lately. I will probably never sell it unless I am financially unable to take care of it. Fingers crossed that never happens. But this is all coming from my own experience. And asking someone else to trust your opinion and then them having a wildly different experience (read horrible) is something I don’t need on my conscience. So, I am doing a partial 180 (90?) on views from the initial ownership report. My advice to all who are reading is as follows – 1. If you are looking for a fuss-free experience (read waking up, deciding to go to Goa and completing a 5 day trip without car quirks), buy a Maruti, Hyundai/Kia, Skoda/Volkswagen etc 2. If you can live with an imperfect vehicle (read quirky and almost human like), go for Tata or Mahindra. The ownership will be well below perfect. But IMO the bond between you and the car will be much closer. Pretty face indeed ![]() Possibly the best photo I have of this car ![]() |
