Ah! This thread hits a sentimental chord. My only car in Australia when I lived there from 2009-2012 was a Holden Commodore. It was a 2004 model I think. It was also the first car I bought from my money.

Loads of memories with that car and had to sell it when I left Aus. I still remember how it drove, like it was yesterday. Light foot on the pedal and it would cruise fast. Had a lot of fun with it driving from Newcastle to Wollongong and further to South Coast many times. I remember the funniest conversation with my father when I bought the car. Ususal questions - what is the mileage etc. and then he asks what is the cc. I said 3,500. He thought he mis-heard. He asked me again and I repeated. His reaction was - have you bought a mini truck?

Love the car and your review is spot-on. Some of the most respected motoring journalist compared the VE/ VF chasis to the sublime BMW E39 series.
I'm in Sydney too and I own a relative/ twin of your car - A 2016 Holden Calais V. My other car is a Kia Picanto as well

Great review. Not sure if other answers have covered it but your car reports fuel economy as L / 100 kilometres as opposed to kilometers per liter. Quite difficult to gauge what the trend is (depends on how many km each bar of the chart represents) but seems like you may have been enjoying the full travel of the throttle pedal

Oh nice. Calais is like the luxury version of the Commodore.
With our mileage, we need a Picanto . Waiting for delivery. They've promised next week.

Also, we should meet up. A couple of other Sydney based BHPians and I do meetups often.

Re: Holden Commodore SS VF Review | A Dying Breed : The Manual V8

Had a Blue Holden SV6 during my flying school days in 2014. Was an absolute beast. Miss pulling off mad burnouts in Bankstown parking lots. Had never thought back then, that Holden would go out of business in Australia.

My most memorable trip was one to Bathurst where we went to attend the Bathurst 1000!

Re: Holden Commodore SS VF Review | A Dying Breed : The Manual V8

A well written unbiased review, the hallmark of TeamBHP. Reading this article made me realise that many of the features mentioned in our 2014 model car have started coming in Indian cars post 2020, which shows how much our car industry is lagging. We have a lot to catch up. Lets hope that henceforth the car industry wont take Indians for a ride. Have a great time and keep on munching miles.

Great review.

"However, in a state where U-turns are illegal"

This surprised me, how do you go back the way you came?

U-turns are not illegal per-se. You can perform a u-turn (a.k.a. a 3-point turn) only when expressly permitted. In most states in Australia, it is illegal to perform a u-turn at traffic lights, on multi-lane roads and over unbroken dividing lines. You can however turn around by using a round-about or execute a u-turn on streets with unbroken dividing lines.

It's one of those Australian things. l/100km is one and they use kW instead of Bhp here as well. Don't think I'll ever get used to it.

Go into a side street and quietly take a U-turn
