Is the issue with incorrect fuel economy displayed on MID solved?
If yes, then can you please share if this fixed on its own or Was it fixed at Mahindra service center?

I am looking at owning Mahindra and am in Hyderabad. Which service center do you prefer for servicing your Scorpio-N?

Hornet has not run much, so I am still waiting to use up the tank and calculate FE. But the MID, now seems a little bit believable. with 9.7kmpl - only city with AC on.

Regarding Mahindra service centre, I have only been there once, for the first service, but I will surely recommend this branch. They installed/configured the remote central locking key and side foot step, also did the first service. I was there only for 3hrs, if I remember correctly. I was very happy when I got back my car so fast. I think they give more priority to new cars/new customers.

Re: My Mahindra Scorpio-N Z2 Base Variant Review

Many congragulations!. Lovely car and I am sure you will enjoy the ownership. I owned the previous gen Scorpio base version (LX). It was purely mechanical devoid of any electronics. The instrument cluster didn't even show the economy part. I presume it is the same with Z2 with some basic electronics.

Any specific reasons why you opted for the Z2 instead of Z4 or Z6 which I thought were more VFM?

The Z2 has most of the basic creature comforts like.
  • Armrest, front and back
  • rear ac vents
  • power windows/child rear window lock
  • power steering
  • Steering mounted controls
  • Instrument cluster is semi digital - DTE, Digital speedo, temp, alerts/errors
  • 9inch touchscreen with 4 speakers. (surprising better than my old safari's top model.)
  • Dashboard looks good with same colour theme as higher variants.
  • Fabric seat covers are good quality.

The reason I didn't go for Z4
>High premium - It was costing almost 3.5 lakhs more than Z2 on-road Hyderabad. Didn't feel VFM.
>Long wait as well.

Why not Z6
>I wanted petrol only and Z6 comes only in diesel.

While driving in the city or highway below 100kmph, all is well, very silent engine, no vibrations, no funny sounds, but both ways on the highway, their was a weird sound coming from the engine bay, almost like a whining/humming/grinding sound @100kmph or above. Its something that I noticed and seemed to have increased on the way back. The second service is due(1yr/1000kms), so will get it checked, but I am unable to pinpoint the issue. The noise is not always there, it comes randomly and goes away on its own. Also, if I am above 120kmph, the sound disappears. So its mostly between 100kmph to 120kmph(intermittently).

Possibly belt related? - but then why does it come only above 100kmph. if belt related, it should depend on the engine RPM...right?

Transmission/6th gear issue? - To test the theory, I started driving in 5th and 4th gear. For sometime, the sound was gone, but then, was back after 15 to 20 mins of driving in 5th gear and 4th as well. :(

Wheel bearing? - Its too early for wheel bearing related issues. I remember having it changed for my Q5, which had clocked 1.2lakh kms. Hornet has just done 7k kms.

Tyres? - Tyres are in perfect condition, so I doubt, it is tyre related.

Exhaust/Silencer - Can a new car get rust issues? I remember, the Mahindra showroom guys, mentioning that the car has gone through underbody antirust coating, but even if it doesn't, isn't it too early for a crack?

Need your help and advice. Already feeling bad about such a sound from a 9th month old car.
Any other Scorpio, XUV700 or Thar (Petrol) owner facing this issue?

Did you get opportunity to calculate tank to tank mileage also to see if actual mileage has increased?
Finally completed a tank of fuel and seems I got 9.1kmpl, so MID showed 9.5 when I filled fuel and now it has reset automatically. Will check another tank to tank for confirmation. Not sure if good mileage is good new or bad news :(.

I will be taking Hornet for 2nd service in Jan, so will update, if any thing new.

Re: My Mahindra Scorpio-N Z2 Base Variant Review

The Second service is complete, here is a full update.

Took Hornet to the Mahindra ASC nearest to my house in Hyderabad, for the 2nd free service on 26th Dec 2024.

Mahindra staff in Neon Motors are very polite and very diligently reminded me on the 2nd service of my car being due in Jan 2025 or 10k km completion. I was at 9k so thought to complete the service in Dec itself.

Reached the service centre at 10am IST and requested the car to be handed back on the same day, as I needed the car the next day.

Following were the things I requested.
  • 2nd free service
  • Issue - Weird sound coming @100 kmph, from the engine bay.
  • Addons - My Z2 variant, doesn't come with Foglamps so I wanted to get it installed from Mahindra ASC only. They quoted me 25k, which I was not to sad about, provided I get the car on the same day.

Things I am happy about
  • I was promised that the car will be delivered the same day
  • The Mahindra mechanic took a test drive of the car, to confirm on the weird sound which I complained about, sadly due to rush hour, he was not able to take the car @100kmph. He mentioned that he has not heard this issue from any other Scorpio-N owner.
  • As promised I got the car at the End of day, around 8pm.
  • The touchscreen was not working after service, but fixed within an hour at the next availability.(2 days later).

Things I am not happy about
  • Fog lamps couldn't be installed, as it seems that the Z2 wiring is different as compared to Z4 and Z6. And Mahindra didn't have the wiring for Z2, but I am happy with the efforts put in by the team.
  • When I was handed over the car @8pm IST, the touchscreen was not working :(. Surely some fuse was touched during the fog lamps installation trial. But the team promised me that Mahindra will send a team to my house to fix it.
  • Also noticed one of the tools is missing from the boot :(, which sadly I can't prove now.
  • the weird sound @100kmph, still continues
  • There was a long scratch above the left rear window, which was surely from the service centre. I showed them the pics from the morning, after which they had no choice but to change their answer from " It was already there" to "yes, sir it seems it was while service, we will fix it."

Things I am angry about
  • For a free service, I was charged 8k, where engine cleaning and some unwanted things were added around 4k.
  • The team was trying hard to push me into buying the ceramic coating package for 35k. I was asked twice by the first guy, then the second guy, then the manager. I was like, "I don't want". Not sure why so much upselling.

Things I am loosing hope for
  • After multiple, follow ups, the tech came to my house to troubleshoot on the weird sound coming from the engine bay @100kmph. I was somehow able to re-produce the issue and was witnessed by the tech who came. I was so happy, that finally, I was able to show the mahindra guy, the actual issue/sound.
  • But after listening to the sound, he still had no clue. He was like we need to take the car to the service station. He didn't even ask me to stop and open the hood. I knew that if I give the car, I may not see it for few days. I had a long trip planned in a couple of days and opted to postpone the troubleshooting. I am back from the trip, but I don't see any hope with the technical skills being shown by the Mahindra Technicians .

I was on the happy side of things when I got the car, thinking that the weird sound will no longer be there. I also released a vlog, on my experience. hope this helps, anyone who is planning to take your Mahindra vehicle to the ASC.

Here is the second service bill

Here are the pics from the service centre. Good that I took pics, or I wouldn't have been able to prove the scratch found after the service on the top of left rear window.

Adding a recent click. Had gone out for dinner and suddenly while approaching Hornet, realized how handsome it looked. Some light effect caused the excellent photo moment.

picture perfect

Some random pics of our dear HORNET.

I did notice some colour difference between the front fender and the bumper. Not sure if it was the light angle or something, anyway, will get it checked. Hoping I didn't receive a brand new Car, with a re-painted bumper.
