Sorry to hear about your door getting chipped, the most common reason for this happening is when people open the door it touches a wall and chips the paint. I know how frustrating it is to see even a centimeter of damage on your new car but don't bother getting the whole door painted for something so small...not worth it.

I don't have a picture of my mats but i do have a picture where you can see them a little so you have some idea...i'll click one of just the mats and post it. For now check this - ImageShack - Hosting :: dsc03005rb4.jpg

As for the tints, i got mine done through an authorized V-Cool dealer, they are probably the best in terms of quality and fitment...very expensive tints but i am sure the dealer will have a chap who is trained to fit on imported cars.

That's a nice colour, looks much better than one would imagine. Quiet and dignified. You are going to have a lot of fun with this. What do you feel about the handling of the car?

IMHO everytime you get a new car resist the temptation to repair superficial body damage unless its really major. 3 months later gives you a more balanced perspective. At the moment even a 1mm scratch is going to bother you, like it would most of us I think. Its difficult but focus on other things.

Nice pics X5! Like the others before me said, I'd recommend you don't go looking for tiny little flaws with the car, just because you are currently experiencing "new car owner anxiety syndrome"! (term coined by me!). Just so you know, I got tail-ended in my M3 TWICE yesterday by two different bikes, both times when I was at a stand-still. I wanted to kill the first guy, the second I was just so shocked I didn't even bother to get out of the car. Needless to say the impacts were very minor, so unless I go searching for marks, there aren't any there.

Take it easy.

Sahil, I know i am still going through the new car anxiety syndrome! I have forgotten about it, but I think my driver did it because the day after he took it out, and i noticed the marks, he didn't even bother looking to see what happened or show any remorse. On the other hand he has been with us for 18 years and he is more or less part of the family, so not matter what he does I can't really get mad at him.

KBK, sad to hear about those idiotic bikers. I am so afraid of traffic when i drive because other drivers, on the most, don't seem to worry about getting so close to your car. I tend to give way, and I am forced at times to give people space because everyone is in such a freaking hurry!

I have bad temper and i usually swear no less that times times on my daily commute. It just saddens to see no civic sense and no road manners with people in this country. What happened to lanes? Doesn't Sheila Dixit say on the radio a million times a day "lane driving is safe driving?" I think she says it in hindi, but my mom had to translate it for me!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Space grey on the car does give it understated elegance.

Cheers!

Handling of the car, like any BMW is spectacular to say. Nothing like KBK's M3, but I have never driven a SUV/SAV like this one. It basically feels like an elevated 5 series. No body roll. It sticks to the ground like melted rubber. The ride tends to be a little harsh going over potholed areas, but on the whole I feel very safe in this car. I also feel like running over everyone because I feel, no...I am larger than most cars! I know this sounds pompous...Image what I'd do if I had a Hummer H1!

The computer is NOT showing near accurate info. I have driven about 200 Km on the car so far, and the comp is showing consumption of about 15l/100km, thus 6.66km/litre. I expect this to go up to about 9 - 11 as the engine runs in.

I love the low end torque available. 520 Nm of torque... I can re-map the ECU and get an extra 80 Nm of torque and an extra 35/40 bhp. This would reduce the 0-100 time from the current 8.1 s to 7.0s. I have enquired about DMS in the UK, and they are charging 800 Pounds = 1600 USD = 64,000 rs.

I don't even feel like putting an extra one rupee on the car yet, though I am sure my views will change as time passes.

Cheers!

Its ironic but the samething happened when my BMW was about a month old,my driver takes it to drop a client to the airport and comes back with a scratch on the front bumper, quitely parks the car and leaves. I notice the scratch later that night and my blood boiled, yelled at him the next morning but he refused to admit it was due to him..he has worked with us for 18 years too and was out of character for him to do something like that. But i later realised that he was probably too nervous to admit afterall coz he is driving such an expensive car.
Got the touchup done from the BMW showroom and its hard to spot the scratch at all. Have just learned that the more you worry about your new car the more its prone to damage, these things are a part of the ownership experience
Just a piece of advice, when traffic is thick switch on the parking sensors, it gets annoying but its still worth it. And get a touchup paint pen or tin when you go abroad next as BMW dealers there sell it off the shelf, you can try buying it from your BMW showroom in delhi too.

That's the same thing I felt when I was using a rented RAV4, felt surprisingly like a car. Of course in the US most cars are automatics and lhd plus driving on the right side, that takes some getting used to. I can remember some comical scenarios that got me into. I had to constantly tell myself 'stay right' but after you used to that even though its a SUV feels like a car, something you feel you can throw around at decent speeds. The X5 one would imagine is even better at this.

'The more you worry about your new car the more its prone to damage' For some weird reason this is totally true, fret and repair the scratches and dents and they come right back, ignore them and surprisingly only the first few stay.

I would advice you to drive very carefully, even if you are totally not at fault, getting involved in some fracas would be very risky, crowds have a unfortunate tendency to presume you are some spoilt rich brat and take it out on you.

Great buy .Enjoy the car and as sahil, kbk and others have said dont bother too much about small scratches and minor glitches.
At every year end you could just get everything touched up and you are good to roll, that ways you have your peace of mind.
Enjoy

that was bound to happen x5. when you start driving a bmw you kind of forget what the back seats look like because the only place you wanna be in the car is the absolutely best place - the drivers seat.
