Skoda engines are pretty reliable. I had spoken to a couple of knowledgeable guys at skoda and they guarantee that the engine will no problems till 1 lakh kms. At 1 lakh you may have to change the timing belt, clutch and suspension if required. Otherwise the engine will be fine provided you service it at regular intervals. I have known people clocking 1,80,000 on octavia's. :D

Why wait, you will be having much more fun now than 2 yrs later u would. Get a REMAP from Petes, you will be much more satisfied than the tuning box. Tuning box just alters the fuel mapping, where as remap you get more boost of the turbo close to 21psi as compared to stock 12psi. You get the power all the way upto to the 5k RPM. Have had it from the day one, it's been 2 years no issues at all very addictive. Along with CAI and De-Cat.
If i go for remap will there be at problem at service centre ? (warranty period of 2 years is already elapsed)

Any idea of resale value of well maintained 1.4 TDI fabia. ?
Two years back when i bought , it costed 8.3 L on road.
I too am tempted by Fabia. The 50K discount makes it look like VFM. i20 Magna now costs the same as Fabia Classic, which has all features of Magna + 2 airbags.
Here is my 'What car advice' thread. Do drop in with your words of wisdom.
My concern now is:
Is the Fabia about to come with a new engine (polo 1.2)? I asked this to the SP, and he said no (Yeah right! what was I expecting

).
BS3 engines made till April 2010, can be still sold in the 13 cities for a grace period of 6 months. The condition is only that BS3 engines manufactured from may '10 cannot be registered in these cities. - Am I correct? This might explain the discount of 50k.
The dealer is offering me mats, flaps, teflon quoting, sun film, and 30 litre petrol as freebies. Should I get this in writing, or is it just word say?
The insurance will be from Reliance (18-20k), but I have the option of going for others. Can you advice me on a good insurer? Iffco-Tokyo is giving a good quote (13k).

Reliance will give considerable discount if you quote the price of competitor. Go for fabia if
1. You give lots of importance to safety
2. Brand name conscious
3. Not looking for raw power like in swift
4. Ready to take care of car very well (spare and maintenance is costly so its advisable to never take car to service centre as far as possible)
5. Ready to use the car for 6-7years. (second hand price is not great)

100% it is. Please wait for the Fabia to be launched with the Polo 1.2L petrol; its a 3 cylinder alright, but one that will leave you pleasantly surprised. Its really peppy, fun to work and fuel efficient too.
Thanx GTO, I shall wait for a month to see how things unfold.
The SP called today (I think he called several times). When I told him my decision to wait, he said the CRDi from Polo is likely to be plonked into Fabia by September, but no news on the Petrol. Nevertheless, he will call me when he gets some info.
I guess the discounts will be off once the new engine comes, but I am willing to wait.

No issues at all. My car still under warranty which will be valid till 20th june. Got it done within a month from the purchase of the car. Just get it and forget about it.

If you are buying the current Fabia, make sure you negotiate a bigger discount since its a closeout model.
Fabia facelift version will not have the discounted price.

Same thought here too. The price difference can subsidize the poor mileage. Only itch is the equipment. I have a feeling that the new one will at least have a USB port and BT, among other things. Silly not to find these in a premium hatch. Even Indica offers it these days.
Hi All Skoda Lovers,
After two years of debating, humming and haawing and nearly plonking down on a jazz, I think I ve finally found the car I am going to put down my money for. A Skoda Fabia. I test drove the new 1.2 CRDI and found it to meet my needs. It appears that the dealer has a couple of old tdi pd models available for a decent discount of 80 K on an on road price of 8.60L. Is this deal worth it. Ought I to go ahead with it. Would appreciate the tips. Also is there any deals on the new diesel fabia.
Thanks for your help

I guess its the old Elegance version (with xenon headlamps, reverse sensor, etc), which is now discontinued. Surely a NO mate, price wise. They were offering a 60k discount even 5 months back, + some freebies. Besides, the PD engine had some complaints. The present CRDi is much better I hear, except for the FE figures. Its not even BS4, I wonder how they can sell it in Chennai now, after the grace period.
You can expect corporate discounts on the present version, nothing more.

Thanks 2 cents. Its the old ambiente. Elegance minus reverse sensors. Tested it and its quite nice.
The thing is that the old one with split folding serves a major need of mine to sometimes cart my training stuff around while taking 4 passengers.
Any idea on the particular problem with the pdi engine.
