After driving almost all the options available in the market, I have come to realize once again what an awesome car the S10 is.

I have totally junked off the idea of getting rid of the S10 now. And am getting the car basically back to new again. I have always maintained it well and will start another round of preventive maintenance on it.

Cheers
Sahakar, I have heard from many S10 owners that even the current generation Punto and Linea from FIAT cannot come near S10 and such was the driving satisfaction that S10 provides to the driver. Driving a FIAT Punto since the last two years, I myself cannot think of driving any other car other than FIAT now just from a driving pleasure point of view.

I am curious to know if you have test driven a Punto or Linea recently and want to know how the performance compares to S10.

I apparently test drove the Punto just a couple of weeks ago and that's when it really struck me how good my S10 is and decided not to part with it.

Dont get me wrong, the Punto is an awesome machine to drive but the S10 is just a class apart in driving pleasure.

The 1.6L engine, gear ratios, et all are tweaked for performance and Fiat had really not thought about fuel efficiency when they build the S10.

I still haven't had a chance to drive the Linea Tjet+ but I guess that may still be near the driving pleasure of my S10 considering the engine output due to the turbo.

But definitely, S10 is still the best performance hatch by miles in India right now.

Cheers

sahakar, Understood. No wonder most S10 owners who are driving enthusiasts would not want to part with their machine.

Are you still getting the 11kmpl mileage in City?
Happy to see that it has been absolutely trouble free so far...
And also kudos to you for doing all preventive maintenance.

max mileage i got so far is 14 in highways with 80-100kmph driving.if i drive it in 140-160kmph speeds,it drops to 12.
Planning to do the timing belt+other belts change and also ignition coil to check if that increases the mileage.

Happy mile muching and also all the best for your new car purchases.
Ok so finally got around filling up the tank again today. I am really driving so little nowadays.

I got a pretty decent 7.5 km per liter for the kind of driving I am doing.

This FE is considering cold starting every morning and doing a 2km school run and back in either the first / second gear with maybe an occasional third and with the AC on. Also, includes at least 4 odd hours of AC idling.

I think for normal city driving I would still get around 10 odd kms per liter easily.

Cheers

Last week got all the shocks replaced and got a machine polish done after the rains.

My S10 is pretty much as good as new now with all preventive maintenance done and should face no issues for at least another 2/3 years minimum.

Although, I am a few years late but here are a few snaps of my S10.

I shall put in some interior ones hopefully soon.

Cheers

Wow looks prestine. Just have the headlamps cleaned/buffed or go in for a replacement set for 1400 bux at kurla, will complete the look. I have a 1.2 ELX and am in love with this car from the day i got it, some niggles do crop up time and again but has not left me stranded in the middle of nowhere till date.
BTW are you in located in Malad?? have seen a similar S10 out here.

Yes the sun light's making the head lamps look extra milky though in reality they seem fine.

I may go to Kurla maybe this weekend. Will have a look, if there are better looking ones available.

I am based out of Vile Parle.

Touch wood, but even mine's never stranded me anywhere as yet.

So where do you get your work done on your 1.2?

Cheers

Re: From buying an Accord to Getz to finally a Palio S10

An update -

Got the steering column replaced. There was a small leak somewhere which made the steering oil drain out after a few weeks.

Also, got an alignment done.

My mechanic also opened up the spark plugs, throttle body and cleaned up the entire thing.

End result - Driving the S10 never felt better. Still the same as I drove when my uncle bought it.

Cheers

a Palio S10 is extremely difficult to replace. you may buy new car(s) but your heart will never let you let this one go. please take some time out and post interior pictures. also putting a GOT BHP sticker on your car should be a good idea.

are you able to source the parts easily or the availability has started to be a concern lately? i had come across a single owner and very good condition Palio GTX few months ago at a throw away price and i even considered buying it and gifting it to my younger brother but uncertainty about the spares kept me off.

Ya I got to get those GOT BHP stickers soon. I am late by a few years I think

Nope no issues in sourcing any parts of the S10 yet. Have been able to source each and every part without any difficulties at all. And I know because I replaced a lot of parts right from the suspension to central lock and horn fuses.

I will surely try and put out interior pictures as soon as possible.

I am actually contemplating selling out my S10 finally, mainly because of parking issues. I am hoping to find an enthusiast who will take care of this awesome car.

Cheers

Re: From buying an Accord to Getz to finally a Palio S10

Did a Lavasa trip over the Christmas weekend. Took the S10 out on vacation after a long time. Last few outstation trips had been hiring Innovas.

Oh man it was so much fun driving the S10 again on the motorway.

I always love driving the S10 on the ghat sections and this time it was no different. Pretty much each and every other car was slip shodding its way on the ghats with speeds of 30km/hr, not able to maintain their lanes and here was my S10 rocketing thru at more than 80km/hr on the ghats.

A Wagon R really got on my nerves. That guy had with full vigor and lights overtaken me when I was going steady on the straights. I let him go and was following him calmly. Once the ghats started, I just couldn't resist. Got behind him with lights and horn to make him leave the rightmost lane as the inclines had really slowed him down. As usual like most desi drivers, he didn't leave the lane, I went besides him on the middle lane, looked at the driver, gave a smile and pressed the throttle. That's the last I saw him. I am sure now he would think twice before he overtakes an S10 aggressively again. Must have shocked his family too. Small pleasures of life in an S10

Other than the ghats, this was my most sedate driving trip ever in my S10. I decided I need to save a 1000 bucks at least on fuel this time and it worked. I managed 420kms on 28 litres of petrol. Got an awesome approximate 15km/litre average. I managed to save say around a 1000 to 1500 bucks of petrol than if I drive spiritedly where I would get around 10km/litre.

So overall had a blast after a long time on the S10. Now that I am getting an Aria, will be difficult taking out the S10 for outstation trips. However I hope I would once in a while, that is if the S10 doesn't find a new home.

Cheers

A great thread to read through and a brilliant car to own.
I hope you've realized that as and when you sell it, you'll definitely get a lot more than the 1lakh you paid for it.
Which other car can do that?

Oh ya that's for sure else will never sell it. Plus, I must have spent around 1.5 lakhs over it recently for all preventive maintenance and that too mostly on the internals. Also, the new owner would need to be a car-o-holic who would do justice to the S10.

Also, the price that I got it for, was more of my uncle wanting me to pay for owning the car rather than he just giving it to me. Else he was getting offers around 2.5 lakhs then.

Re: From buying an Accord to Getz to finally a Palio S10

OK folks, took some time out and snapped a few snaps of my S10.

Since I last updated, its got a new battery, servicing done and dont remember whether I mentioned it before but got new seat covers.

Somehow this is the ultimate car on the lower side of 20 lakhs IMHO. Nothing beats it in that price range.

Enjoy the pics.
