i was just checking out the pak toyota website there recently they released a 2.0 Ltr Diesel engine for the corolla.. but im a bit confused with the power outputs.
Im guessing this engine will be here in India pretty soon.

The diesel engine figures from the Pak site looks a bit silly. May be a typo.

They will certainly bring in the diesel engine to counter the New Optra (Cruze) diesel. What i don't understand is why can't they bring the 1.6 petrol which offers reasonably good power spec. That will help them grab some sales from ANHC, and they can easily straddle two segments without having to bother bringing in VIOS.

May be they want to keep the premium image of Altis??!!!

The same car in a higher state of tune gets higher mileage in Japan (16-17KMPL), so I'm guessing they designed it for Japanese 100 octane fuel as well (with an even higher compression ratio = more efficiency.

Whats the Comp Ratio on the indian civic? Its 10.5 for USDM.

The Corolla's 1ZZ-FE CR is 10:1. The India Civic's CR should be between 9.8:1 to 10.2:1.

Wont be as high as the USDM due to the our fuel octane rating at 91 RON.

Rgds,

The R18A makes 138BHP at 10.5:1. The Indian R18A is detuned to 129BHP. So, if anyone can do the honours with the math... ;)

Has anyone test driven the New Altis 2011 with 7 speed Autobox? I couldn't find any reviews on the new model, I'm looking to purchase one.

^^ review on the forum is awaited ; I'd suggest you do a Test Drive and post your observations(and some pics)

If you have already driven a 4 speed automatic, you could easily make out the benefits of the new 7-speed.

Is the steering changed in new altis? The older altis had much heavier steering than City. Is it lighter than older altis?

well, i was looking to buy an automatic.
Narrowed it down to two cars, Laura & Altis

i had booked the new Laura tdi DSG variant, took my family for a test drive, put the car in N at a stop signal (it was a brand new car with 20km on odo), the autobox just refused to go into "D" , "S" mode, got stuck at the light with cars honking from behind and the horror stories came back to life :(
really loved the car but the constant thought of insecurity at the back of the mind (what if the car stops in the middle of nowhere), just took my away from this deal, cancelled the booking.

Went on to test drive the New Altis, i have to mention i don't really like the new tail light cluster but i can live with it. The engine is more responsive than the previous gen 5 speed auto box.
good thigh support
ac is chiller
cruise control
auto dimming RVM
HID lights with headlamp washer
audio controls on the steering wheel
touch screen DVD system, 6 speakers
7 speed auto is quite refined, car pulls effortlessly

Only downside, no discounts at all and the car has 3 months waiting for most of the colors except the pearl white.

thought about the peace of mind and booked the car.
waiting for delivery

Did you see a green light in the console? If Yes, press the brake pedal first before trying to shift from P or N, wait for light to off, it won't shift if you panic, standard procedure for all Automatics.

Hey congrats on your car. It looks amazing in this colour. Which dealer did you buy it from? BTW please do post a ownership thread as we don't have many of the Altis and none for the new 7 speed AT box. Enjoy your ride. :thumbs up
