Mate, hate to parade on your party, but having gone through your thread, I have to say you have a whole lot of misconceptions in your head. A read on the ECU thread should help, and new oil does not need bedding in, nor does it affect FE.

Also, you seem to be anal about fuel efficiency and I bet you are trying to outsmart the car into giving the fuel efficiency you want, by consciously looking at the tacho and shifting gears.

What you should be doing instead is try and drive smoothly, change to higher gears as often as possible(while not lugging the car at any point). Since you have not driven much, this will come by experience. Even in Bangalore, it is possible to drive an MJD in 5th gear in traffic. Your current low FE I presume is due to incorrect gear selections.

Concentrate on your driving and enjoy the car, FE WILL come. Leave the tacho alone for a while. :D

Thanks Kuttapan,
Ok just for my pride my FE is around 15 now :D

I will go thru the ECU thread thanks for that.

Yes i used to drive looking at the Tacho; now i just feel the car hence my agitation that the car is not running smooth after the 2nd service.

The "oil bedding in" was just a guess a bad one i now realize; More NVH = less FE in my book. Drove the car around and it quietened down, FE is doing well. so dont know why it was so rough earlier on.

Hi Jazzy,

I am catching up with you... we will meet soon.

Cheers
Aadi

Tacho reference for gear change is just to say when i change else there is no way to communicate when i feel the car need to upshift/downshift based on vibration sound and gas pedal response.

I do enjoy my car very much...

:Shockked:Please dont do this you will ruin your fuel filter and God forbid the engines injectors.

Fuel filter dont cost much but injectors will make you want to scrap the car and buy a new one.

15 is very decent in traffic, especially from a new driver. You know what the best part is - it will only improve from here, unless you drive like a maniac.
