Being charged in First Service of Accord 2008

Hello everyone,

Need some urgent advice...... Giving my new Accord for first (1000Km) service tomm to Arya Honda.

The female on the phone tried to convince me that I need to PAY for the change of oil and oil filter in *such* cars, she insisted that other cars they might be giving but *such* cars Honda is advising to change these and that you must pay for it.

Now from my past history with other luxury cars that probably cost 5x more than this I know that what she is saying is utter nonsense. So I convinced her that I know what I am talking about very diplomatically. So she said my service adviser will talk to you tomm when you come in.

Can other TeamBHPians please tell me what is going on? Shes just trying to sell me something that I am entitled to for free right? The oil change and filter change are default in first service isnt it?

Do advice with urgency please

Its the labor that is free, not the parts.

You have to pay for the Oil & filter & other such consumables, its only the labour that's free.

Please refer to your service manual.
It should ideally mention that while the service is free the consumables are charged.

Oh I see. Thought spare parts replaced etc would be free too :/

Things like oil filter etc are not covered under service contracts then I guess.

What premium cars have you owned that offer free oil changes? I am keen to know.

Good idea to change the oil @ 1000 kms on a new engine. All the metallic dirt will be thrown out.

His profile states he has a BMW too but I'm certain they do not provide free oil changes.
I get the oil changed due to the BMW's BSI maintence plan but i certainly wouldn't call that "Free" by any means.

Honda does milk Accord customers with premium prices for synthetic oil.

I have a BMW 750Li and even though it was a few years ago when I got the first few services done dont think I paid anything :/

But then I did take out some extra coverage packages etc and post warranty AMC etc.

Even i am running synthetic on my 08 accord. I insisted on getting it done during th 10000km service and you can really feel the difference.I ended up paying 570 dirhams inclusive everything.

Not free then, is it? You have effectively pre-paid the cost of consumables.

BTW sweet ride, that V8 must revv like a dream.

I have a friend who has an Accord, and he is extremely pleased with it. While that shows he is loaded and can afford it, he still complains of its service and repair costs.

Anyway, if it is Honda policy, you cannot do much about it. I suggest you write to Honda through web and find out. Does Accord require any oil change after only 1K.

Hyundai Includes Consumables

Somewhat offtopic, the three free services for the Getz include consumables, they even changed the airfilter for free because I pointed out thats its marked as 'Replace' in the 3rd service schedule.

Its been a while, but I recall that the original Sonata's free services also included consumables. They even included a wax job.
