Got a Siena
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-drives-initial-ownership-reports/55162-got-siena.html)
Hi guys, I got a Siena clap:after researching a bit.
Its 2003 July 1.6 EL 100 bhp. Run about 60K kms. The engine is a dream. Yes, i got it checked fully before taking delivery.
There are some issues but...
1. The A/c is not very effective. There is a car A/c mech. shop opp. to my house will get that checked.
2. The other thing that worries me that most is that I find is there is viberation when i take the car to 90 kmph. The engine is really great. It effortless goes upto 90 then there is a small vibe. i just took it out for a spin now. Its 10.30 in the night and dint have the guts to push it further and see what happens. From what i have notices is that tyre pressure seems too high. The guy has over inflated it i guess, more than that each tyre seems to be in different level of inflation. Will check check tyre pressure and aligment first thing in the morning. Could it be anything more serious? Something to do with the suspension?
3. The head lights seems insufficient. I love the double barrel look of it. When i switch to high beam both of the lights look great. But the lighting is in sufficient.
Any suggestion to improve on these things.
P.S. When i was going thru the manual and it says that 1.6 EL has a airbag in the steering wheel. True?
Congrats Mate!
How much did you get it for? and Which color. A bit more details on the complete buying process.
congratulations! do post some pics. and of the interiors too.
Congratulations on the buy. Do post some pictures.
What colour is it and how much you bought it for?
congratz dude!
you have got wrong information about the airbag
The manual would be for all models.
Its the ELX SP which has the airbags, not the EL.
Congrats on an awesome car all the same!
Congrats Archish.
Had gone through your thread Palio Vs Siena. Was the Siena still produced in 2003 or was it the Petra (Palio with boot)?
for vibration get the alignment and wheel balancing done .....
siena is one of the most underrated cars around. It can really surprise quite a few cars with that 1.6 L engine and has pretty sound road manners. how much did u pay for it.
for the vibration, set the tyre pressure right and get wheel balancing done. also look for uneven wear on the tyres. while you are at it, it may be a good idea to upgrade to tubeless tyres, if your car is on stock tyres
the 2002-2004 sienas did not have airbags in the ELX SP version because there was no varient as ELX SP.
it was a varient called "maestro" which was produced in miniscule numbers that came with ABS and driver airbags as optional.
congrats!
sienna is a great car.mostly this happens in our countery that after the car has stopped & a good research later can get you a car which is much more capable.100 bhp with i.6l is a great combi.please post some pics & keep us updated on your ownwrship

Already replied by others....1.6 EL has the capability to take you ~ 185 :thumbs up

Congrats Archish! I have been driving Petra 1.6 EL (aka Siena) since last five years....it is a fantastic car but you have to take good care of it!
Cheers, :)

Congrats buddy. You have got an awesome car. The only issue I find in this one is the mileage. My car gives 7-8 in city and 13- 14 at highway with 100% AC. This car handles like anything even at the speed of 160kmph the car is firm on the road.
Please do check the alignement and balancing. It may be causing the vibration. Did you check if the tyres are okay. Uneven wear at times lead to vibrations.
Get your tires checked. I had the same issue with my zen. The problem persisted even after alignment and balancing But once the old tyres were changed, there was no problem what so ever. The culprit was the car dealer.
Will post the pics soon. I m gonna get the car polished, will take the pics and post soon.
I was looking for a car with a budget of 1 lac + or - 10k. I looked and found that Fiat cars gave me lots of car of the money. So, set out hunting for a Palio or a Sieana. Then was searching on the net with carwale and caresalesindia found nothing good, then saw The Hindu classified adds. 3 cars got my attention. One was a Sieana and the other 2 were palio.
The first Palio was near my house in adyar, to set out sunday morning to see it. But the place turned out to be a dealers place and they dont open till afternoon. So, I called the next Palio, the person said that he was selling the car in behalf of a Dr. and was a diesel palio 2003 end. Had done about 60k kms was in great condition and the asking price was 1.75 and negotiable little. But the place was about half hour frm my house, my friend lived near the place where the car was located. Asked my friend to have a look at the car and if its good, I would come and have a look. He called me back in 10 mins saying that its not worth it. The underbody and the doors were rusted. The ORVM on both sides were broken. There were dents and scratches all over the body. So rejected that car.
Then i turned to the Sieana. It said it was concorde maintained and owned by a company. So, i called and the person said that he was coming to a temple near my house that afternoon and I can come see the vehicle. Had my lunch early and he called me saying that he was at the temple and i can come. So, i set out to see the car. It was 16V 100 Bhp Sieana EL done 60k km. All the papers were clear, he had the originals with him. No hipothecation. Then TD the car. The first thing i noticed was the engine was great. Dint expect such a response from the 7 yr old engine. But then the vehicle started to bank to the left and i had to steer right constantly to keep the vehicle straight. I asked the owner about it and he said that he had given it for service about a month ago and this problem had come up only after that. He said that he had settled in bang and the car was here and dint have time to get it rectified. He said that he will get it fixed the next day. I dint buy the story, so he put me in conference with a person called Sam from Concorde. Sam explained to me that it was concordes mistake as they had remove the tyre for routine check up during service and dint align the wheels after that as the machine was brokendown. Otherwise the car was good. No body work. The color was dull and original, the suspension was good. and asked a price of 1.35 lac. I told him that i can consider the vehicle only if he gets the car fixed and it stops banking to left. He said he'll rectify it and call me the next day.
Next, i went to see the first palio. I was told that metalic silver. June 2003 Had done 55k km. 1.3 petrol model and asking price was 1.5 very negotiable.I was standing outside the building for them to bring out the car. And a diesel palio was driven out. I was suprised that they dint know the difference and thought that it was petrol car. I dint ask anything and the greedy side of me cropped up. I thought i was getting a diesel car for the price of petrol. Then looked around the side and there was badge of 1.3 or 1.9D and there a lil black smoke from the exhaust. I was thinking that maybe engine oil and oil filter needed change. I asked them how it was maintained and they said it was done by local mechanic. Then i got behind the wheel and the gear shift was hard, then pressed the gas pedal down. And then came the suprise. It was not diesel engine but petrol engine. The gears had no feel to them and the engine was weak. Took a 100 m test drive returned to the office and said that i would call them with a offer that evening and never turned back.
The next day called concorde landline and asked to Sam. Wanted to check if he really worked there. They said that he was in service bay and gave me his mobile number. I asked them in what capacity he worked there. And they said he was a service consultant. I called him and enquired about the car. He was clear about what he said earlier. They were at fault as the aligment machine was down that day. And the car has come in for rectification that morning and it would be done in about an hour. The owner called me in an hour and informed me that the problem was rectified and asked if i wanted a TD. I told yes and asked him to come to my house. I TD the vehicle and it was rectified. Then came negotiation and the expert negotiator of our house, my dad stepped in. And the deal was sealed at 1.15 lac.
I m still feeling around the car. As i said i has some issues.
One being, ineffective A/c.
And viberation beyond 90 kmph.
Will have to work on these 2 issues.
Pics coming soon.
What is the air pressure to be maintained in the tyre. Right now I have 30 psi. Too hight? I feel the its too high.
