Its not just the 3bhp difference. The first lot came with the original jap engines. Maybe they were made to ensure very less tolerances unlike the later ones made here. Different positioning of cat con, different mapping on the new ECU etc slowed the car down. I think the main reason is mapping. Wonder what difference a E III car would have with a E II ecu.

Was the Baleno engine made locally in India? I thought it was all jap made. They didnt have the numbers to produce them locally, did they? Cosmetics I agree.

Yes lots of difference including the no. of cat cons, header design etc. But on paper there was only a 3bhp difference. ECU wiring is also different I think and EII ECU might not work on the EIII because of the some additional inputs which are there in EIII for emissions.

Less work to do on the older balenos. They might respond better to mods also, only time will tell.

Was told by the guys at RNS that the engines were now being made locally. That is how the swift ends up with the baleno head since production costs for a new head design would add up costs. I could be wrong though, just stating what I was told.

E III ecu came with EGR. Cant remember if there were any other differences. Karthik would be a better person to ask.

Even I doubt if the engines are locally made. Again I dont have any solid info. Anyways instead of trying an EII ECU its better to go aftermarket and correct the fueling.

Are you sure Amit? Not only did the company guys mention this, but so did some very well known tuners in India. The swift basically has a baleno head with a slightly wilder cam profile. Its been mentioned several times before too on the forum on other threads.

From what I know the heads of the G13B and the G16B are the same, Same valve sizes and ports. Donno if its visually any different. In engine production, mostly the engine components are all assembled into one piece and then shipped for fitment in the engine bay. They cant produce the head in India and the bottom abroad.
Among the G series engines, only the G10B and G13B were produced in India coz they had numbers. The G10B was only sold in the Zen but it had numbers and that engine line was made for over a decade. G16B was only in the Baleno, but not enough numbers to import dyes and cast them here locally.

I too prefer the pre 2005 balenos, good fun to drive. But no climate control. The post 2005 ones look refreshing but lack on power. What a compromise.

@Crazyd - You collecting Balenos eh. Lucky fella.

Another strange observation, the car is running hotter than my modded car. This is really strange because mine should be running hotter since its running high compression and other mods.

Are pre EIII baleno hotter than the later ones? this belies logic. Car does not seem to have overheating but needle is on the higher side that all.
