Chensaro upgrades from M800 to Ford Fiesta Diesel

I am a proud owner of Ford Fiesta 1.4 Tdci Diesel EXi Limited edition.

Even though I bought my car in Oct 2009, I think it is not too late to write the initial review.

My initial budget was around 6 lakhs and I had short listed Swift Dzire as my choice. Accidentally I test drove Fiesta Diesel and I was bowled by its ride quality and handling. I checked with many of our friends here (http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/sedans...dzire-vdi.html) and finally took a decision and bought the Limited edition model.

The car has completed the first service (5000 km or 3 months, which ever is earlier). To date I have driven ~ 4200 km.

I thoroughly enjoy the car and one thing I must say is about the fuel efficiency. I am a very sedate driver and I am able extract great mileage. My general driving pattern is around 80% in highway and 20% in city with occasional use of AC. The mileage figures I have listed below is measured on tankful to tankful basis:

Initial Odo reading Odo reading at refilling Litres of Diesel filled Mileage
387 1348 44.07 21.81
2220 39.91 21.86
2877 30.36 21.62
3903 43.84 23.37

After the first service the mileage is yet to be checked. Great efficiency I think. What is your opinion?.

The happy beginning should have a bitter mix up. My happy story also has a bitter part. What is it? Wait till my next post.

Chensaro, well congrats for completing 4200 km on ODO and 1st service, I agree with your mileage, apart from handling and better ride quality (if not best), mileage makes you more smile per mile. I beleive after 1st service it will increase further.

@chensaro,

First of a big Congrats on choosing a Fiesta. Welcome to the Fiesta family. Although I drive a petrol one I can echo the same feelings as you although not on the mileage front. The enjoyment, ride quality, handling which u get on a Fiesta can be undertood only by another Fiestian.
Second congrats on completing 4K+ on the odo. Great to know that you are getting a fantastic mileage. All the best for the same in the future too.
Why the bitter pill when you has so much sweets with new Fiesta??
keep posted on the same.

Updated Mileage chart is given below:

Filling Date / Initial Odo reading / Odo reading at refilling / Litres of Diesel filled / Mileage (Km/l)

23.11.2009 / 387 / 1348 / 44.07 / 21.81
18.12.2009 / 1348 / 2220 / 39.91 / 21.86
26.12.2009 / 2220 / 2877 / 30.36 / 21.62
19.01.2010 / 2877 / 3903 / 43.84 / 23.37
07.02.2010 / 3903 / 4362 / 24.77 / 18.55 (??)

Why so low mileage? This is mainly because of first service and another two trips to Ford service station to sort out a problem.

These people in service station generally rip the car during trial and also they switch on the AC to the highest speed during trial run. They also use AC in service station during working to get cool air.

Since the car has to be in service station three times within a short time of 10 days, this has resulted in the poor mileage.

Why visit the serivce station so frequently? Friends, you have to wait for few more days. Ford India has promised to do a change in my car and I am waiting for their call. I don't want to talk bad about my car manufacturer. If the whole goes through smoothly, then I will write the whole experience along with a praise for Ford.

Hence please wait for some more days.

Regards,

Chensaro

Hi Chensaro..bit late but welcome to the Fiesta club.

Is the Fiesta Diesel among the best or THE BEST among diesel vehicles on the same segment with regards to mileage?

Mileage is checked tankful to tankful basis. Hope that the mileage achieved is good.

One problem which I had not fully mentioned in my earlier posting was the "KADAK KADAK" noise from steering wheel when the steering is turned 20 deg or more on either side. I was experiencing this sound mainly on rough roads.

This was complained and Forded changed some part and now, the sound is drstically reduced (not fully eliminated). I think I can live with it, since I have no other issues.

Congrats! chensaro. you seem to getting quite exceptional mileage consistently. I also have a fiesta and we get anything from 15-20 depending on the traffic conditions. it's with 100% AC.

Can you please elaborate on how you drive? rpms/speed/gear changes etc

Belated wishes on the car. Mileage is impressive and is as expected of a Diesel. But it surely is not a bumper to bumper, ain't it? As for the sound from the steering, see Frankmehta's thread. Ford acknowledged the issue and rectified it under warranty.
