congratulations on your new buy, good car with well known engine that has created much heat in this as well as hatchback category.
Excellent writing skills, keep that up and enjoy your new ride.

2nd service, 5k Km update.

So, Ralphine just completed 5100 km last week. Here is a brief update.

Four months after purchase, the car had just run 1600 km. I was the butt of the jokes among my friends.

"Loser, buys a Diesel and makes her a Garage Queen!!"

"How many kilometers has your car while it stands in the garage?"

While these taunts and jigs didn't trouble me, I was actually worried that I would have to go for a second service with nothing on the odo (First service was done @ 1st month with odo reading 1100 km). Three months since, Ralphine had only clocked a a mere 500 km. At this rate I would clock another 1000-1500 km before July arrived. 2nd service below 3500 km mark is useless as the car would not have even completed the run-in.

Then, a wonderful idea struck me, I picked up the phone and dialed 5.

"Hello, whats up? "

"It's the car. "

"What about the car?"

"It's just done 1600 km, at this rate we will have to go for 2nd service in run-in period."

"Hmmm. What do you want to do?"

"Simple, run him a bit."

"Give me some time, ok?"

"Ok, bye. "

Soon exams followed and I completely forgot about the car. On the eve of my last exam my uncle called, " Exams ending morrow right?"

"Yup."

"Fine, after exams head home straight, don't go partying."

"What the #%@&? Why? "

"We are heading for a week long trip, covering 3000 odd km, is that fine? "

"Hell yeah!! It is"

This news made my preparation go for toss and as expected I fared badly in my last exam.

Back home, I was just doing a check up and I suddenly realized I needed a urgent headlamp upgrade. The Dzire's stock lamp is a joke. Call it co-incidence or luck, TBHP introduced the 'TBHP Directory' the previous night and BHPian condor was quick enough to post a review about Konark Accessory shop near Banerghatta road. Bingo, this was awesome, a quick check up at Sagar Automobiles followed by a headlamp upgrade.

Got Hella relays and Philip rally 100/90 for 1000 bucks. Awesome price, neat installation. Now all set for the trip!!

We did a 8 night 9 day trip covering Shirdi and a whole lot of places around.

Quick facts-

Total distance traveled-3100 km
Fuel consumed- 189 lts of Diesel
Best mileage- 21 kmpl, Chitradurga to Bangalore (without AC and speeds b/w 70-100)
Worst Mileage- 16.3 kmpl from Hubli to Narsob wadi (Spirited driving with speeds hovering around 120-130, did a brief 140 +, 100% AC)
Overall Mileage- 16.40 kmpl

Some observations:
  • Car felt planted even at 140 kmph, thanks to Yoko A-drives.
  • AC is very powerful, even with outside temp around 36 C, fan speed at 2 kept us chill
  • Boot is huuugee. 5 people's luggage and a whole lot of space left.
  • 5 people and luggage sinks the car, gotta be extra careful, car bottoms out easily, lots of bottoming especially on broken roads, rain made it even worse
  • Fantastic ergonomics, on the last day did Bijapur-Bangalore, no strain, no exhaustion, Supremely comfortable.
Post trip, had few issues
  • A faint rattle from the dash
  • Squeaking sound from the rear left seat
  • Lots of small nicks on the paint from the stones flying from other vehicles. Not seen to the naked eye, but a owner can see everything.
MASS said these have been corrected, haven't got a chance to drive on bad roads. A south India trip is on my mind somewhere Mid-July, can figure out then.

During 2nd Service, got an underbody treatment done, cost 2500/-, 5 year warranty, wheel balancing and tire rotation.

Total cost for 2nd service, 3100/-

Will post few pics shortly.

PS : No travelouge this time as most of the places visited were temples and camera was not allowed. And more importantly I lost my log book. A detailed travelouge of South India Trip coming up soon, promise.
