Here comes another scorpio

Folks,
Booked a Scorpio sle at SKS automobiles (Koramangala) about 40 days back. Convinced the missus for a black as non of the other colors were that appealing and was not interested that interested in a white.

Could not believe it when she said ok to black and didnt want to push it by tryingn for a black cladding. So i'm sticking with the slv-grey clads !!

Deal.

.1. Dropped the 15k std. fitment charges (11K Nippon system )
2. 23k worth insurance at 6K
3. Carpets & scuff plates
4. 3M sun film (5+k. They covered Rs1800)

So far so good. The sales agent Surya was very polite, cordial blah blah blah but somehow managed to screw up the delivery dates by an additional 20 days

The new delivery dates clashed with my wife's delivery date .. she was on schedule(baby boy again ).

When the vehicle was ready, i wasn't able to take delivery of the vehicle as my dad was very serious (He passed away a couple of days later due to a sudden onset of ARDS after a diabetic foot surgery)

After 2 weeks i went to the showroon to do a PDI, the vehicle had 60km on the odo. Did the usual drill (thanks to the ton of info. on this forum) , there was a pretty nasty metal vibration noise coming from the running board FR side.

I asked them for the PDI report , it was left behind at their Bannergetta showroom (service center) . I had specifically requested for Bridgestone
Dueller but got Apollo Hawks .

p.s. All new Scorpio Sle & lx come with this as OEM, vlx and xylo still come with Duellers

They needed an additional day to rectify the noise (due to a faulty silencer piping clamp)

Vehicle was delivered to my house the next day. The delivery personnel (home installation specialist ) had very basic knowledge and did not have a clue about the Nippon security system (pin change, disabling follow me home , auto locking modes etc )

Drove it for a couple of kms and realised that the vehicle was pulling to the left . Went to their service center the next day for a wheel alighment . The alignment walla put in almost 1/2 " of shimmie blocks -- aliminium thingie-- . This along with getting the sun film done , took the most of the day .

The ride was very bumpy.. went to a service station ..they had put in 47 psi on all the tyres

The vehicle was still pulling to the left. Mr. x (Manager Customer Care ) arranged for the vehicle to be picked up from the office, it was promised to be delivered on the same day. They tried changing the lower arm, upper arm, no luck. They had to replace the entire joint (knuckle) It took 3 days for them to deliver the vehicle back. I got a xylo as a temp. vehicle.

Got the vehicle back y'day evening. There was a really irritating plastic rattling noise above the brake pedal. It took another trip to the service centre to rectify it (a/c pipe was chaffing a plastic block )

My initial observations.
Pros.

1. Road handling & suspension is really great - body roll has been dampened to a great extent
2. Very torquey and can easily drive around the city traffic in high gear - I stalled the vehicle a couple of times going over speed dividers at <10kmph in 3rd .
3. Seats are pretty confortable
4. Very responsive steering with decent feedback.
5. No Turbo lag
6. Excellent a/c

Cons.

1. Plastic quality is not upto the mark
2. Miss the pampering i got in the Safari - The bonnet & rear door do not come with hydraulic arms, lumbar support, the vanity mirror & glove boxes are not lit, no clutch foot rest.
3. Feels like i've got a downgrade after driving the xylo for a couple of days (w.r.t creature comforts - leg room, seats etc)
4. The vehicle does not feel sturdy the way my older Safari feels , case in point, they have made the rear door so thin , it feels like a sheet of metal . The inner door levers feel really flimsy.
5. Blower speeds above 1 is very noisy.
6. Very small glove box
7. The blower vents feel really cheap and flimsy.

The decision was a clear case of performance over comfort .

.

Got a couple of questions for the good folks on the forum.

1.The car (with 800km on the ODO) currently sprints to 80kmph pretty quickly, getting it to 90 -100 requires some major throttling and the engine sounds strained

Is this because the engine is not yet broken-in ? . Should i wait for another 1-2 k km before i ask the service center to look into it ? They will have to push the vehicle hard to check it out as well

2.Not sure if the slight whistling noise is due to a faulty expansion value or turbo whistle or induction noise from the dynamiser

Will post some pictures soon.

Congrats and my best wishes for the new car!
But I find a couple of your observations quite contrary to mine.

4. Very responsive steering with decent feedback. - I differ again. My Scorpio feels like a video game to me while driving

Sorry to know about your dad cyberpatrol. That said god gave you guys a little one to overcome the loss and congratulations on that.

5. No Turbo lag
I wouldn't buy this for obvious reasons coz am a fellow scorp' owner and the turbo lag is pretty evident till about 1750rpm or so .

Never experienced such a thing and in my case it was hoot to push it all the way to 3 digit speeds. You could prolly wait till the run-in period is over and if the problem still stays then get to the service center and get it diagnosed.

Grrr what (pun intended) , check this white Scorpio

First congrats and all the best with the new acquisition.

The first concern point is better checked out properly. This is NOT normal.
The second point is probably the Turbo Whine as you accelerate.

I am pleasantly surprised at your 3 comments as below - and if they indeed have actually sorted these, then the car is certainly an excellent value proposition!

1. Body Roll/ Ride/ Handling
2. No Turbo Lag
3. Responsive steering with good feedback.

Welcome to the family of teambhp Scorpio owners.
Sad to hear about your dad's passing away.
The pros and cons you have pointed out are common.
The reverse gear engagement and the harrrd horn button add to the list of cons/woes.

Congrats about your new acquisition. Wishing you many more happy miles ahead.

Sad to hear about your father passing away.

I still don't understand Mahindra & Mahindra giving the wrong spectification of tyres inspite of a specific brand request. I too requested for Bridgestone and got Apollo instead.

I would say that you need to get some of your initial observations sorted out with MASS service guys. They seem to be vehicle specific.

C'mon get some pics out here.

Thanks Folks for the replies.

I used to drive my cousin's older CRDe and it used to be like riding a rubber duck (sorry guys) . The new refurb.scorp seems to be much more planted than the older ones .. Just a subjective observation knowing very well this is to be expected of a tall boy with high CG.

w.r.t turbo lag, again i was previously driving a Safari TCIC with severe turbo lag.

I was driving a Manza(petrol) for a while and its steering felt like a video game sans feedback.

Latest Mod. I put in a relay with ceramic holders and upgraded to Philips 90/100 crystal vision . Pretty happy with the results. Not sure if the reflectors can take the 100/130 ?

Congrats on your new ride cyberpatrol! Damn , seems like the whole world is driving a Scorpio except me. The perception regarding turbo lag may differ from person to person depending on the driving style. Could you tell me which brand of relay and ceramic holders you've installed and the cost? Enjoy...

Congrats on the buy buddy. Good choice but sorry to hear about your dad & the ordeal you had to go through during the delivery of the car.

I do agree on the 'no turbo lag' part. Guys, try driving the competitor cars & you will understand what i mean.

Let the engine run in, achieving triple digit speeds should be really easy on the scorpio.

raj I did request you to not make such sweeping statements. The only other competitor in this segment is the 2.2 Dicor. Drive one and maybe you will realize what I was talking about.

For a fact the Mhawk does have the turbo lag and I can bet anything on that.

cyberpatrol was comparing the Mhawk to the older Safari TCIC and not the new gen Dicor 2.2.

hi riju, maybe you feel its a 'sweeping' statement, but i have driven/owned the safari 2.2 & scorpio. Scorpio's turbo lag is much lesser & infact lesser than other cars like verna & cruze too.

by no turbo lag, i mean very very less lag. i am yet a drive a diesel which has "NO" lag! of course, i have not driven the BMWs & audis!

even you have said that scorpio's turbo lag is only till 1700 rpm, thats barely a lag buddy. check out the other cars i have listed & you will realize what turbo lag actually is!
