Called up Nandi Toyota and they said that the mirror is available in stock and costs Rs 745!!! Thats too much for just the mirror! Yes does not include any assembly etc - just the mirror and a plastic frame around it! Initially thought of checking for the mirror at a roadside accessories shop but later decided to get it replaced by a genuine part. 745 for the part 85 for labor and then 14% tax added up to 945.

Pretty expensive spares I must say! Anyone else had any experience with Etios spares?

Btw, does anyone know of a shop (in Bangalore) where I could have got the mirror at a cheaper price?

Rs 745/- for the mirror alone is too costly. I had to replace the mirror of my Fiesta and it costed Rs 340/-. I replaced the entire assembly on my Alto and it costed Rs 270/-.

I am planning to give the car for 2nd service, this time to Ravindu in Old Madras Road. Let's see if they could crack any solution.

11.5 is not great but it is better than what I get now. How was the mileage earlier when the car was newer? Please see if you can share the mileage figures for the following odo readings.

Odo - less than 1000 km
Odo - 1000 to 2000 km
Odo - 2000 to 3000 km

11.5 for a car with a 1500 CC engine that has done just 6700 KM in city is not bad at all.

I get 14 KM/L for my Alto and 10 KM/L for my Fiesta

The mileage remains the same right from day 1. I didn't see any increase in the mileage. With 100% AC it is 10.5 kmpl (city suburbs, Whitefield-Kadugodi, no traffic jam, just 2 signals and 10 humps in a 5 km stretch) and 11.5 with 20% AC. So, in b2b traffic it may be around 9-9.5 kmpl.

In highway it is 14.5 kmpl for speed upto 100 kmph and 12.5 kmpl for 120+ kmph speed.

My Etios has completed 7000 km with 80 % city and 20 % highway driving.
From 0-1000 km it was 10kmpl
From 1000-3000 it was 10-11 kmpl
From 5000 it has stabilised around 12-13 kmpl

I have not faced any water seepage or rattle issues so far. The tyre noise from the stock Goodyears is slowly getting on my nerves though

Thanks Upgrade. It seems every Etios behave differently from each other on mileage as is evident from feedback of various people. I just checked the feedback of Heman which is different from yours (mileage improves after the initial run-in). Mine is a sob story compared to both of you as I get as low as 9 kmpl in city and showing no signs of improving. I was getting 12 to 13 with my old Estilo which has an ARAI figure closer to that of Etios on mileage.

Thanks Heman for your feedback. I hope the mileage figures start improving for me too as the odo clocks more.

I did little over 7200 km as of today. I have 2 new updates. Other than these 2, everything is business as usual.

1. With petrol price skyrocketing, I tried mileage conscious driving - Only 20% AC and never let RPM to cross 1500 except in the 5th gear. That means shifting to 5th gear at 40 kmph speed. Mileage gone up to 13 kmpl. But the number of cars overtaking me is more than the number of cars I overtake. At 74 Rupees per liter for Petrol in Bangalore, I am ok to face this humiliation.
2. I had a very minor accident, if I can call it so. I just touched a stationary bike that was waiting before me in a road junction. Nothing happened to the bike. The bike didn't even fall. But Etios got a dent in the bonnet. Though it is not easily visible, the fact that nothing happened to the bike but there was a dent in the car is the proof to the poor steel quality (in terms of thickness/strength) used in Etios.

Was there no damage to the bumper? I thought the bumper would take all the impact and suffer damage.

Hey upgrade, thanks for sharing.

Humiliation apart, is it ok to upshift so early? Pl. pardon my ignorance, but my concern is if it can make the clutch wear out faster.

Also, has there been any resolution of the issue of the rather high rpms in your car by Toyota?

Sorry about the dent, mate. By any chance, do you remember which part of the bike hit the bonnet? Was it sharp by any chance? Of course, Etios is a tinny typically Japanese car. But its bonnet feels heavier as compared to ANHC, which is a segment higher.

It was a HH splendor. It could be helmet lock or some thing like that - not sure about the part that touched. It was not sharp object though.

@RadiantKarma - I am not sure if I can upshift so early. But the car easily pulls. I go over a ROB everyday and I could climb at 5th gear in 40-45 kmph speed without much issue.

For the higher rpm issue, i am yet to go to service center. As service center is little far off and I need to take a day off too, I pushed it for a later day.

I had taken up the matter of mild vibrations in my car with Toyota by registering a grievance with all the details on its website. The Service Centre was after me now to check the car and came over to my place on a day convenient to me.

Hey Upgrade. I haven't managed a tankful-to-tankful in my Etios yet. Had filled up the tank right after delivery, but re-filled it last week to avoid the impending petrol price hike. The car took 29 ltrs of petrol on 2nd filling and had traveled only about 270 kms from the first fill. Thats a mileage of only about 9.3 kpl. It was 100% city, 70% heavy traffic with AC on most of the time, so that might account for some of it. OTOH I've been driving with a light foot, keeping in the 2000-2500 rpm range so was expecting better. Hoping that it will improve after first 1500-2000 kms - lets see.

.

Hi Gautam, I too get a mileage of only 9 kmpl in city and around 12 kmpl in highways with my Etios - nowhere near the ARAI figures of 17+ kmpl. Since you had bought the car before me (mine was July 2011), I was wondering if you have noticed any improvement in mileage offlate. Did you get in touch with Toyota guys about the mileage issue?

These are atrocious mileage figures consider that the car this is such a light weight. If Toyota does not correct the mileage issue fast, I guess the Indian customer is going to punish them.

You are right KPS. This mileage figures disappoint me though the car has been a delight otherwise in performance, refinement and comfort. Toyota should know that there are customers like me who only ask "kitna deti hai?".

I was like you during my initial days complaining about my mileage. Then I decided to change my driving style drastically. Etios has great pick up and torque. If you want to enjoy the pick up/power, forget mileage. If you drive this car like how you would have driven your previous car (upshifting gear at 1800-2000 rpm), your mileage will be around 10. But if you are willing to change your driving style by leveraging the torque and upshift early at 1500 rpm, your mileage will be around 12 (or 20% more than what you get in the previous style) in city. I am still not happy about that. But at least now there is a workaround to cut the fuel expense.
