Golden Temple - Jalianwala Bagh - Wagah Border

Had a chance to go to Amritsar last year. I reached in the evening and did not get a Sharai to stay and booked a nearby hotel.Golden temple is awesome at night... I felt like in heaven.Guru Granth Sahib volumes are kept in the Golden temple. Also there is a museum in the premises that has all the pictures of freedom fighters and weapons. Also there is a huge Langer (free Kitchen) that allows more than 1000 people at one go.

Apart from Golden temple you have the Jalianwala Bagh which is close to golden temple, One of the most brutal incidents that took place during the Indian freedom struggle that played an important role in giving a definite direction to the Indian freedom movement.

Don't miss the Wagah border, which is around 30 KM from Amritsar.. They have a retreat ceremony every evening called 'lowering of the flags'. This place gets very crowded , So to get a seat and enjoy the ceremony, reach there well before time.

I felt so much patriotic that day, I can not express.I have some pictures of these places.

@Abis; Nice pics. Would have prefered little more detailed narration & Pic with captions. I'm surpriised that they permitted you to take pic inside sanctum sanctorum.
The 'LANGAR' can house 5k people at one go & the kitchen can cater to 10k people at one time. You should have also made effort to see the 'CHAPATI' making machine which is one of its kind in the world.

@ariesonu: Yes I think there are couple of hall for kitchen. There were more than 1k people in hall. Next time onwards I will try to add caption for each pictures. I wanted to write a more descriptive narration but because of time could not, Will surely do if I get time during weekends.

The setup is rock solid and enormous - consider the fact that 50,000 - 80,000 people are fed twice daily, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The capacity increases to 1 Lakh on weekends/special occasions - 30 mins for making rotis worth 20kg.
Read somewhere that the above roti making machine was donated by a
Lebanon Based devotee.

There are two machines for kneading the dough too - they knead 1 quintal of flour in 5 minutes - now that's fast !

More Facts -
Daily consumption -
About 50-quintal wheat,
18-quintal daal
14-quintal rice and seven quintal milk

They have storage capacity of all the above for next 2 months.

Consume approx 100 gas cylinders daily

For making tea, 6 quintals of sugar and 20 kg of tea leaf are consumed!

Check this link for behind the scenes of this amazing kitchen -
