Here comes my first travelogue on a short trip to few places in Karnataka.

Made an overnight decision to visit my granny’s place in Chikmagalur and surrounding places as plans of visiting Trichy & Pondicherry dropped – all thanks to RTO agent who misplaced my car’s RC book which was given for ownership-transfer and parents were against inter-state travel without original documents.

Here are my places of visit:
1. Shri Kamakshi Sharadamba temple, Hebbur
2. Sri Siddhalingeshwara kshetra, Yediyuru
3. Shravanabelagola
4. Belur
5. Chikmagalur
6. Sringeri
7. Kigga
8. Horanadu
9. Kalasa

Total distance: 831 kms
Vehicle: My newly bought tallboy – a used 2002 model Hyundai Santro ZipPlus LS

Day-1: Bangalore – Hebbur – Yediyuru – Shravanabelagola – Belur – Chikmagalur
Day-2: Spent time at granny’s place
Day-3: Chikmagalur – Sringeri – Kigga – Horanadu – Kalasa – Chikmagalur
Day-4: Chikmagalur - Bangalore

The travelogue would be incomplete without mentioning the importance/significance of these places.

1. Shri Kamakshi Sharadamba temple - this temple is located in Hebbur which is about 16 kms from Kunigal town which is on the Bangalore-Mangalore road. The temple has a Srichakra structure housing the idol of goddess Kamakshi


2. Sri Siddhalingeshwara kshetra – located in Yediyuru few kilometers after Kunigal, this place is the Samadhi place of the 14th century sage, Sri Siddalingeshwara swamy

3. Shravanabelagola – this heritage monument has a 60ft tall statue of King-turned-saint Bahubali at the top of Vindhyagiri hill. Took at left turn at Hirisave before Channarayapatna and travelled about 18 kms.

4. Belur – this historic place which is about 220 kms from Bangalore is popular for the Sri Chennakeshava temple and is a sculptural treat

5. Chikmagalur – no words left as much has been said about this coffee-land.

6. Sringeri – About 90 kms from Chikmagalur, here is where Adiguru Sri Shankaracharya invoked goddess Sharda Devi

7. Kigga – About 10 kms from Sringeri is another temple of historical importance. The road between Sringeri and Kigga is in poor state

8. Horanadu – the place houses the temple of Goddess Annapoorneshwari (a form of Adishakti) and the temple meals tastes awesome

Yea.... please do post more pics with some captions. Difficult to make out which foto refers to which place, except for known ones

This is the map of Shravanabelagola. It has two hillocks - Vindhyagiri & Chandragiri. The statue of Bahubali is at the top of Vindhyagiri - a 20-min climb
